[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-11-21 Thread Pedro Ribeiro
@Coiby Xu (coiby)

I build the next branch of linux-gpio (which contains the patch you mentioned
in #251), and the trackpad works just fine without the hid polling on the
kernel command line.
You can contact me if you'd like further testing, my email is

2020-11-21 Thread Erik Elfgren
Public bug reported:

When I try to update zfsutils-linux, the upgrade process tries to mount all zfs
file systems but since my root / is on zfs it fails with:

[Bug 1698090] Re: Segmentation fault

2020-11-21 Thread Thayne
I can look at seeing if it can be reproduced with a newer version. 2.4.6
would be easier to test than 2.4.9, since it is in the apt repos for
18.04 and 20.04, but I might be able to compile 2.4.9 as well.

As far as reproducing it, I don't have great reproduction steps. I've
only seen this happen with bitbucket server (which is proprietary), and
even then it was happening somewhat randomly, but about once a day.

Not the physical monitor brightness-that obviously can't be controlled-
but the content of what the monitor shows should be dimming/brightening.
(For example if theoretically I turned the brightness to 0, to an all
dark screen, it should be all dark on the monitor aswell, even if the
monitor brightness is max, the OS is showing nothing)

Yes, I looked through GNOME's settings daemon and this is most likely
the package this occurs in.

[Bug 1905152] [NEW] finger segmentation fault when pty not found

2020-11-21 Thread Peter Benie
Public bug reported:

Example error:
finger: /dev//pts/3: No such file or directory
Login NameTty Idle Login Time Office Office Phone
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

This crash can happen if the utmp entry references a terminal that is no
longer allocated. In this case, it prints an error message (eg. finger:
/dev//pts/3: No such file or directory), but w->idletime and w->writable
are not initialised in that code path. w->idletime now contains junk,
which is fed into gmtime(&w->idletime). The return value from gmtime is
deferenced without checking if it returns NULL.

[Bug 1905148] [NEW] 5.8.0-29 freezes during boot

2020-11-21 Thread gruberm
Public bug reported:

Affected package: linux-image-5.8.0-29-generic (5.8.0-29.31~20.04.1)

I'm running a Braswell system with Iris Pro graphics, which requires the
i915 Intel graphics drivers.

The system hangs right after GRUB with a black screen, only a hard
reset/shutdown helps.
Manually removing 'quiet splash' from the boot options in GRUB results in the
attached log output.

Further investigation led me to this bug report, which might be related to the
problem:

So this is a non-issue, like the Lubuntu one, too? Perhaps this was

[Bug 1855318] Re: autofs tries to find .xdg-volume-info and autorun.inf

2020-11-21 Thread Han Vinke
Btw, I do not have an issue with that the automount daemon completely ignores
the map file.
In the file "auto.extra" I can also put a line with .xdg-volume-info /-
Then the systemd daemon is only mentioning: xubuntu automount[]: the key
"autorun.inf" not found in map source(s).

Re: [Bug 1901947] Re: Boot failure (black screen) when Nvidia GPU is enabled

2020-11-21 Thread alvaro
I reinstalled the system with a clean new 20.04.1 LTS (hard drive
replacement for a SSD) and everything works fine now with 455 driver.
My configuration must have been screwed somehow but it escapes me where
about.
I won't be needing anymore support so thanks for the ticket. If you need
anything else from me please let me know.

2020-11-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1853021] Re: ssl-cert generate-default-snakeoil provides no way to override default 10 year expiration or reduce to 825 day expiration

2020-11-21 Thread Stefan Fritsch
The link at [1] does not talk about self-signed certificates at all,
only about DV and OV certificates. I agree that make-ssl-cert should
have an option for the life time of the generated certificate, but I
don't think that 825 days should be the default for 'generate-default-
snakeoil'. If you have an official certificate, you don't have to do
anything on the clients to make it trusted, but for a self-signed
certificate, you have to distribute the certificate manually. Having to
do this every 2.5 years seems excessive.

[Bug 1905038] Re: Casualmente la cancellazione dal desktop del menu applicazioni bocca ogni attività escluso il movimento del mouse

2020-11-21 Thread roberto meloni
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report
are not in English. If they were translated to English they would be
more understandable to triagers. Could you please translate them?

 deleting the application menu from the desktop crashes
any activity except the movement of the mouse

Bug description:
1) click on the application menu launcher (icon at the bottom left)
2) click on the menu launcher or on empty space on the desktop to clear the
screen

By chance the computer freezes, the words "frequent" "all" remain on the
top of the screen
  only the mouse symbol moves but all the keys are inactive
the only solution is to turn off the computer with the On / Off button

Finally I upgraded my Ubuntu 20.10 to "groovy-proposed" and the issue seems to
be fixed.
More likely this bug is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-lib/+bug/1901922 .

I've just found out that upgrade to the latest "groovy-proposed" fixed my issue
(see the description in

It seems that my issue reported in #1901901 is duplicate of #1901922 .

[Bug 1905126] Re: libreoffice image insert dialog does not show thumb drives

2020-11-21 Thread Roland Hughes
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

  Because of the move to a snap, when one opens the file dialog usb/thumb
  drives are not shown. For a File->Open you can navigate to /media/user-
  name/thumb-drive if and only if you personally have mounted the thumb.
  For those of us writing documentation using screen shots taken on many
  different systems but all on the same thumb drive this is a real hassle.

  Prior to Snap packaging this worked.

  I suspect this is a nasty bug in Snap.

[Bug 1905136] [NEW] libreoffice doesn't decrypt my gpg encrypted files

[Bug 1855318] Re: autofs tries to find .xdg-volume-info and autorun.inf

2020-11-21 Thread Han Vinke
Hi, the problem seems to come from gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor. See
upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/287

There the problem is clearly stated :

¨The difference with autofs in comparison with ordinary mounts is that the
mount always exists (you can see it in "/etc/mtab"), but do not have to be
really mounted. However, gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor thinks that it is really
mounted if the mount exists...
Consequently, the following code is called which looks for some files on that
mounts (e.g. autorun.inf, .xdg-volume-info), which causes the unwanted
automounts for autofs.¨

But no solution for autofs momentarily, the patch proposed caused other
issues.

Hi. Thanks for reporting this issue. However, I think this is not a
software malfunction, and you're rather looking for support:

[Bug 1677398] Re: Apparmor prevents using storage pools and hostdev networks

2020-11-21 Thread Yury Bushmelev
I hit this issue today when trying `terraform-provider-libvirt`. So I
spent some time debugging it. Below are my findings.

1. Dir-based pools are affected. I didn't tried with default one as I
created custom storage pool in terraform (`/srv/libvirt/images`). Then I
was able to catch `/etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-*` files and
check their contents. There was no `/srv/libvirt/images` path so it's
definitely was not added there.

2. Then I found `/**.qcow{,2} r,` in the
`/etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.libvirt.virt-aa-helper` file. So my image
should be allowed by this rule. But I was still unable to create VM. I
tried to add my path here without any success though.

3. Next thing to try was `/etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/TEMPLATE.qemu`. I
added my pool path there ND it works after. So this is what I have
in TEMPLATE.qemu file now:

```
#
# This profile is for the domain whose UUID matches this file.
#
#include
profile LIBVIRT_TEMPLATE flags=(attach_disconnected) {
  #include
  # Allow access to custom storage pool
  "/srv/libvirt/images/" r,
  "/srv/libvirt/images/**" rwk,
}
```

Now those paths appears in libvirt/libvirt- file and access is
finally allowed.

Please let me know if there is better way to do this.

[Bug 1904953] Re: USB2.0 HUB only works after an USB device is connected

2020-11-21 Thread FurretUber
Disabling the autosuspend from the USB device fixed the problem.
However, I did not want to disable it for all USB devices, so I added an
udev rule:

ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="214b",
ATTR{idProduct}=="7000", ATTR{product}=="USB2.0 HUB",
TEST=="power/control", ATTR{power/control}:="on"

On Windows, the USB power saving is enabled but this does not happen.
Maybe Windows has a quirk configured for this device already?

[Bug 1899145] Re: Getting a repeating, white-noise like "tik tok" from speakers

2020-11-21 Thread Ian Bruntlett
TL;DR - This bug has been fixed.

Detail...
As of last Saturday (14th November 2020), this bug no longer happens with both
Ubuntu 20.04.1 and 20.10. I also noticed that the sound was very much louder
than expected from my system - reducing the volume fixed that OK. Tested sound
by playing a music video in YouTube. There is the occasional crackle when
booting or changing the volume but that is OK.

Ubuntu 20.04.1
Both kernels 5.4.0-53 and 5.4.0-54 were fine.

Ubuntu 20.10
Kernel 5.8.0-28, also fine.

[Bug 1875252] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers

2020-11-21 Thread Martin Wynne
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1876065 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876065

The patch did not resolve the issue for me, and the bug is still there.
I just upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 on a Dell Latitude E6230, and there
was no sound output, with the sound settings showing only 'Dummy
output'.

I had to do a fresh reinstall of 18.04 which was extremely time-
consuming.

The same problem had occurred for me in the summer on a Dell Latitude
E7270. I saw then that there were lots of reports of the problem, and it
seems inexplicable to me that this has not been fixed.

I guess I'll have to start looking for a different Linux distro.

[Bug 1905127] Re: autoamtically suspend right after login - when booted with Thinkpad lid closed

2020-11-21 Thread Zhang Weiwu
Kernel:

$ uname -a
Linux thinkpad 5.8.0-29-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 6 12:37:59 UTC 2020
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

adding HandleLidSwitch=ignore to /etc/systemd/logind.conf makes this
problem disappear, however, it is not desirable that the laptop ignore
lid closing. It simply should not trigger lid closing if it was closed
before Ubuntu starts.

[Bug 1815339] Re: Printer stopped printing paper size 4"x6" after update ghostscript to 9.26

2020-11-21 Thread Skippy le Grand Gourou
FWIW, for distributions which haven't published the fix yet (e.g.
Slackware AFAICS), RIP_MAX_CACHE can be overwritten by adding this line
to cupsd.conf (also editable through CUPS web interface on
localhost:631) :

RIPCache 0

(replace 0 by whatever suits for you).

[Bug 1450393] Re: wpa_supplicant high cpu load after going to Promiscuous Mode

2020-11-21 Thread BCW142
I ran in to this with Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS when using wired connection. I
turned off Wi-Fi now so I hope that fixes it (as I use wired on this
system). It was taking 25% of CPU time as shown with htop. I shutdown
the service (sudo service wpa_supplicant stop) and then disabled Wi-Fi.
