[Bug 1913266] Re: [UBUNTU 20.04] Vsock can't be used with Secure Execution, required argument not supported
The first try for that would be to only adapt the new code in virDomainVsockDefCheckABIStability to use the "old style" call to virDomainVirtioOptionsCheckABIStability (19d4e46770). While that seems easy the bigger dependency is "virDomainCheckVirtioOptions" which without Michals series isn't available in src/conf/domain_validate.c And that in turn depends on c05f00666c for PostParse. For the 7.0 into Hirsute that isn't too much of a problem, but for the backports I'm slightly concerned. I didn't see an immediate problem - but it will have to be double checked as one would want to avoid regressions of the "yes I know it is wrong, but it used to work until your update" kind. But one step at a time, for Hirsute I've prepared a test build as part of the 7.0 builds at: https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4408/+packages Once (if) libvirt_7.0.0-1ubuntu1~ppa7 (or later) is built there I'd appreciate if IBM could do a check of that build on an secure execution enabled machine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1913266 Title: [UBUNTU 20.04] Vsock can't be used with Secure Execution, required argument not supported To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/1913266/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm working on libvirt 7.0 atm anyway and will - for Hirsute - make this part of it. Once complete we can think of the SRUs. P.S. Ok that other bug was filed wrong (against qemu), it is for libvirt and therefore will not be bundled. But there are a few other things that might (depending on completion) join this SRU (or not). [Bug 1913979] Re: misleading error messages when /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections is a cross-filesystem symlink
** Description changed: - As of a couple of days ago, I am unable to get network manager to - connect to any wifi network. + If the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections directory is a cross- + filesystem symlink, activating connections will fail with the unrelated + messages: - It looks like the groovy network manager packages have not received any - updates since release, but since I can successfully use wpasupplicant - directly I'm ruling out issues with my specific home wifi or wifi card. + * "failed to create file ...: Read-only file system" (TRACE level) - Though this might still ultimately be due to my specific setup, the - error message logged by network manager is really insufficient for - determining where the failure may lie, even when debug mode is turned - on[0]. The Gnome UI doesn't display an error at all. + * "failure adding connection: settings plugin does not support adding + connections" (DEBUG level and above) + + * no error message (Gnome UI) + + I suspect moving the systems-connections directory onto a separate + filesystem is not supported because network manager tries to atomically + move a connection temp file into place and fails, but this is really + hard to figure out since the error messages are completely unrelated. + Versions: Ubuntu 20.10 network-manager 1.26.2-1ubuntu1 network-manager-gnome 1.18.0-1ubuntu2 + How to reproduce: + sudo mv /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections /some/other/mountpoint/system-connections + sudo ln -s /some/other/mountpoint/system-connections /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections + + Then: * select any wifi network via the Gnome UI, or * connect to a wifi network via nmcli, or * connect to a wifi network via nmtui + Symptoms: - * no UI popup is produced when using the Gnome UI - * the message "failure adding connection: settings plugin does not support adding connections" is shown when using nmcli or nmtui - * debug logs include slightly more information: + * "failed to create file ...: Read-only file system" (TRACE level, + journalctl) - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8651] active-connection[0x55b6b9a25b50]: set device "wlp61s0" [0x55b6b9b62cb0] - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8652] device[fd0e531202f8924b] (wlp61s0): add_pending_action (1): 'activation-22' - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8653] active-connection[0x55b6b9a25b50]: constructed (NMActRequest, version-id 22, type managed) - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8807] active-connection[0x55b6b9a25b50]: Failed to activate '(null)': failure adding connection: settings plugin does not support adding connections - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8808] active-connection[0x55b6b9a25b50]: set state deactivated (was unknown) - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8808] active-connection[0x55b6b9a25b50]: check-master-ready: not signalling (state deactivated, no master) - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8808] device[fd0e531202f8924b] (wlp61s0): remove_pending_action (0): 'activation-22' - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8811] audit: op="connection-add-activate" pid=452187 uid=1000 result="fail" reason="failure adding connection: settings plugin does not support adding connections" - Jan 31 20:32:57 laptop NetworkManager[3315]: [1612143177.8812] active-connection[0x55b6b9a25b50]: disposing + * "failure adding connection: settings plugin does not support adding + connections" (DEBUG level and above, journalctl and nmtui/nmcli output) - Workaround: - - * connect to networks by using wpasupplicant directly[1] + * no error message (Gnome UI) - [0] https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/NetworkManager/Debugging - [1] https://shapeshed.com/linux-wifi/ + Relevant sample logs: + + Feb 01 20:56:04 laptop NetworkManager[1368510]: [1612230964.4038] active-connection[0x56274f6f0a60]: creating + Feb 01 20:56:04 laptop NetworkManager[1368510]: [1612230964.4039] active-connection[0x56274f6f0a60]: set device "wlp61s0" [0x56274f883f00] + Feb 01 20:56:04 laptop NetworkManager[1368510]: [1612230964.4039] device[d62304f9da70d783] (wlp61s0): add_pending_action (1): 'activation-5' + Feb 01 20:56:04 laptop NetworkManager[1368510]: [1612230964.4040] active-connection[0x56274f6f0a60]: constructed (NMActRequest, version-id 5, type managed) + Feb 01 20:56:04 laptop NetworkManager[1368510]: [1612230964.4040] auth: call[37]: CheckAuthorization(org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.network-control), subject=unix-process[pid=1369566, uid=0, start=18908113] (succeeding for root) + Feb 01 20:56:04 laptop NetworkManager[1368510]: [1612230964.4041] auth: call[37]: completed: authorized=1, challenge=0 (simulated) + Feb 01 20:56:04 laptop NetworkManager[1368510]: [1612230964.4041] auth: call[38]: CheckAuthorization(org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.set

[Bug 1912330] Re: regression: non-X VTs stopped using energy star after xenial
** Summary changed: - non-X VTs should use energy star + regression: non-X VTs stopped using energy star after xenial ** Description changed: - it's simple. it's easy. let's get our servers being good energy star - citizens shall we? + as of xenial, non-X VTs timed out and powered down even if nobody ever + logged in. but that's no longer true in bionic and focal. if a VT is running X at all, whether that's running sddm and never logged in, or sddm and logged-in, or not running sddm and simply logged- in and running X started with startx, that VT will timeout and - powerdown. so far so good. + powerdown, even on bionic and focal. no problem there. but a VT that's either running getty, or logged in and just running - bash, will stay powered up and blazing away forever, whether it's ubuntu - server 20.04, lubuntu 20.04, or centos 8. + bash, will stay powered up and blazing away forever, if it's ubuntu + 18.04 or 20.04, server or lubuntu. or centos 8. so probably RHEL 8 too, so probably most servers, aren't being good - energy star citizens! boo! + energy star citizens anymore. something happened since xenial. the util-linux package is used by both centos 8 and ubuntu 20.04, and contains both getty and setterm. - thus getty seems to me to be the sensible place to call: + probably getty would be the place, that either used to call, or should + now call: setterm -term=linux -powersave=powerdown -powerdown=15 -store>/dev/tty0https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912330 Title: regression: non-X VTs stopped using energy star after xenial To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/1912330/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914007] Re: RT3290 Bluetooth not finding any device
This bug is 'Invalid' because the problem is not coming from any Ubuntu code. The problem is in the code you downloaded from Github: https://github.com/loimu/rtbth-dkms which is also available in: https://launchpad.net/~blaze/+archive/ubuntu/rtbth-dkms but doesn't seem to be supported either way :( If you prefer, we can say 'Won't Fix'. That's not completely accurate but has the same effect. A bug being 'Invalid' does not mean it's not a bug. It certainly is a bug, but it is a bug that's not from Ubuntu. [Bug 1881832] Re: Ubuntu server 20.04 fails to get IP address from DHCP server (no network connectivity)
OK, update. I found the reason why it's happening. I have two HDCP servers running in my lab. Different networks but on the same switch you could see both. As ssoon as I shut down one of DHCP servers all went back to normal. Each machine on each reboot it getting proper IP from DHCP that is alive. As soon as there are two DHCP servers on the same physical network ubuntu sometimes is not getting ip on boot. It would pull an IP every 2-3 reboots. What is strange it has no problem getting IP with two DHCP servers once it's fully booted. I could release IP and renew multiple times and it would get one each time. The issue is only on boot. No oher of my machines in lap are showing this behavior, only ubuntu ones (not that I tested a lot in this configuration). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881832 Title: Ubuntu server 20.04 fails to get IP address from DHCP server (no network connectivity) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netplan.io/+bug/1881832/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1908452] Re: MAAS stops working and deployment fails after `Loading ephemeral` step
@dannf - Thanks for the great deep dive! It seems the issue is in python3-simplestreams. According to [1] "Nearly all production code should use this parameter in nearly all requests. Failure to do so can cause your program to hang indefinitely" The timeout needs to be set in RequestsUrlReader which is fairly deep in SimpleStreams code, MAAS does not directly interact with it at all. simplestreams uses Urllib2UrlReader as an alternative if requests isn't available and no timeout is set there either. RequestsUrlReader/Urllib2UrlReader is called by UrlMirrorReader which MAAS does call. We need to figure out a good default timeout value for both RequestsUrlReader and Urllib2UrlReader. We also need to determine whether this should be configurable by the caller or not, MAAS will most likely use the default value. [Bug 1881832] Re: Ubuntu server 20.04 fails to get IP address from DHCP server (no network connectivity)
So I'm on Ubuntu server 20.10 guest on KVM host (currently Unraid). I should mention that I'm not using virtio network but I have passedthrough my physical Intel network card. I'm not getting ipv4 on boot, only ipv6. After it's booted I can log in and simply renew dhcp using dhclient command. And it works finr I'm finally getting ipv4 from my DHCP server on the network. Now I didn't have any problems with netplan config file. Device name was correct and corresponded with my current device name - in my case enp3s0. I did not remove iso after install as this KVM host will not boot from ISO after installation. I have removed it asfter few reboots to see what will happen and - nothing chnaged my network interface is still enp3s0. So tu summarise, this issue might not be exactly related to config in netplan. As it seems to be all in order in my installation. But still I'm not getting ipv4 at boot. Well it happened maybe once or twice when on boot it got ipv4. Maybe 1 in 10/15 reboots. ps. I have cteared 3 VM's with same ubuntu 20.10 iso, with 3 different physical NIC's passed to VM. Same problem on each machine. It's surprising to see that's it's happening since over six months. [Bug 1914148] Re: Firefox connstantly disabled on Apparmor
The Firefox AppArmor profile isn't enabled by default because it forces the user to change how they interact with their browser. Consider that the profile really allows downloads only into ~/Downloads/ directories. (There's other places that are writable, but even less suitable for downloads.) Many users prefer to download directly to their existing directory structure. Consider the wide variety of plugins that may supply helper executables. Plugins failing without a good interface in the browser to know why they have failed would be very confusing. Consider the huge number of applications that people install to handle mime types. People want to be able to click a link to any random file and have the browser offer to launch the helper. People who are fine with all these impositions in how they can use Firefox can enable the Firefox profile. They'll know how to debug issues when they arise, and furthermore, probably already have a workflow that makes it easy to work with the AppArmor policy restrictions. But most Ubuntu users are completely unaware that they're running AppArmor on many of their services. Surely some of this group would like to use it more, if only they knew about it, but also many people just need their computers to keep working as they always have. If we enable this one profile, we run the serious risk that users will disable AppArmor entirely. I think it's an important use case to support, since it's more than likely going to be needed once Ubuntu supports ZFS on server installs. the zfs tools and scripts should definitely be bulletproof'd to handle any zfs fs configuration, especially around something like this where it should be easy to fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1899372 Title: update-grub 10_linux_zfs fails when /usr is a separate filesystem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1899372/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914147] [NEW] Firefox hangs after upgrade to version 85
Public bug reported: Today I have received a security upgrade for kubuntu 20.04 including firefox 85. Unfortunately, this version of firefox appears to hang at start unless it is started passing an url. Namely: firefox hangs, while firefox lwn.net does not hang. I have quickly tried working with a clean profile and firefox 85 seems to start fine with that. Yet, the profile is not broken: if I downgrade to firefox 84 and restore my profile from a backup, then firefox 84 works just fine. So the issue seems to be that firefox 85 has issues in working with profiles that are totally fine with firefox 84. This breaks migration from firefox 84 to firefox 85. Issue is totally reproducible: downgrade to firefox 84 restore profile from firefox 84 from backup work with firefox 84 (OK) upgrade to firefox 85 try to work with firefox 85 (KO) Please consider that having to reset a profile is a form of data loss. In a modern browser, the profile includes extensions, passwords, data from web apps and more. Because this bug makes it impossible to apply a security update (firefox 85 is marked as such and shipped via the security channel), this bug is particularly serious.
