[Bug 1922651] Re: r8152 tx status -71

2021-04-28 Thread Martin Vysny
Maybe the Lenovo USB3.1 Hub device would benefit from having the 'k'
parameter? I'll try.

[Bug 1922651] Re: r8152 tx status -71

2021-04-28 Thread Martin Vysny
Hold on please, it looks like the bug is back - upon a boot I'm randomly
getting

[ 271.935097] r8152 5-1.1:1.0 enx482ae3a2a6f0: Tx status -71
[ 272.959356] r8152 5-1.1:1.0 enx482ae3a2a6f0: Tx status -71
[ 273.983324] r8152 5-1.1:1.0 enx482ae3a2a6f0: Tx status -71

even though I have the kernel parameter usbcore.quirks=17ef:a387:k . Now
I'm running Ubuntu 21.04 using kernel 5.11.0-16-generic. lsusb now
identifies the device correctly:

Bus 005 Device 003: ID 17ef:a387 Lenovo USB-C Dock Ethernet

So, the k option, while improving the situation, doesn't seem to solve
it fully.

[Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1

2021-04-28 Thread C. Jeffery Small
Regarding my previous comment, disregard the issue about Windows 10
having problems accessing the Samba shares. This turned out to be a
strange password problem with samba. Resetting the user's password to
the same value that it already was immediately cleared the issue and all
windows machines could once again see the shares.

[Bug 1918855] Re: Xorg xserver got signal 6 to abort

2021-04-28 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
Summarize the bug status:

1. The issue is reproduced on focal/hirsute.
2. The latest mesa library from ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers, can lower the
reproduce rate on focal/hirsute, it is 100/100 reproducible originally.

Conclusion:
We don't have identified solution at this moment.

[Bug 1926361] Re: sru ubuntu-advantage-tools (10ubuntu0.16.04.1 -> 27.0) Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Hirsute

2021-04-28 Thread Chad Smith
** Description changed:

  == Begin SRU Template ==
  [Impact]
This release sports both bug-fixes and new features and we would like to
make sure all of our supported customers have access to these
improvements. The notable ones for are:

     * Xenial and Bionic: New Python-based client to automatically setup
livepatch, fips, esm-infra, esm-apps using a single UA contract token
from https://ubuntu.com/advantage. This is a backward incompatiple
transition from the previous shell-based ubuntu-advantage commands to
  the new python-based "ua" command.

     For all Ubuntu releases:
     * APT command and MOTD messaging hooks about available esm-infra and
esm-apps package upgrades and ESM-infra availability on Ubuntu releases
entering Extended Security Maintenance (Xenial)
     * FIPS and FIPS-updates support
     * New ua fix subcommand to allow fixing individual CVE or USN security
issues.
     * new 'ua help' command to give information about
     * notices section in `ua status` about outstanding configuration changes
needed to finish intiial setup of Ubuntu Advantage services

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.

  [Test Case]
The following development and SRU process was followed:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuAdvantageToolsUpdate

The ubuntu-advantage-tools team will be in charge of attaching the artifacts
and
console output of the appropriate run to the bug. ubuntu-advantage-tools team
members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this has happened.

  * Automated Test Results

Attach or link the following automated integration test runs for
ubuntu-advantage-tools on each affected LTS release:

  - lxd.container platform
  - lxd.kvm platform
  - AWS Ubuntu PRO
  - AWS Ubuntu cloud-images (non-Pro)

  - Azure Ubuntu PRO
  - Azure Ubuntu cloud-images (non-Pro)

  - GCP Ubuntu PRO
  - GCP Ubuntu cloud-images (non-Pro)

  * Manual Test Results
  If trusty targeted:

  For all SRUs:

  [Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned integration tests are attached to this bug.

The list below represents places where this update could cause regressions:
  * apt hook messages not working properly resulting in E: error messages from
ubuntu-advantage-tools apt hooks. apt will still exit 0 in these cases
  * MOTD hooks during error conditions omitting messages about available esm
package updates.
  * Customers trying to use scripts at system deployment that use the old
ubuntu-advantage-tools < version 19 will not be able to `ua enable-livepatch`
or `ua enable-esm` at system launch. Launch scripts need updating
  * Customers launching machines using the following cloud-config userdata
during system launch will have to update their userdata to use new the new
cmdline client 'ua attach', 'ua enable' commands.
-#cloud-config
- ubuntu_advantage:
- commands: XXX
- runcmd:
- ubuntu-advantage enable-fips
+    #cloud-config
+  ubuntu_advantage:
+  commands: XXX
+  runcmd:
+  ubuntu-advantage enable-fips
+ * Upgrade from Trusty to Xenial of a UA attached VM may report ESM Infra as
disabled https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-advantage-client/issues/1590
+

  [Discussion]

[Bug 1924794] Re: Getting error "ipconfig: no devices to configure" while trying to autoinstall in a VLAN env on s390x

2021-04-28 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Well in the focal -> groovy time we find this change
(http://launchpadlibrarian.net/481474731/initramfs-
tools_0.137ubuntu4_0.137ubuntu5.diff.gz):

# activate non-autoconfigured s390x devices
for dev in $DEVICE $DEVICE6 $IP6 $VLAN_LINK; do
+ # skip $DEVICE which is processed in $VLAN_LINK
+   echo ${VLAN} | grep -q ${dev} && continue
case ${dev} in
enc*)
zdev=${dev#enc}

which I think is just wrong: it's trying to avoid calling chzdev -e on
the encc000.2653 device but it also avoids calling it on encc000 :(

[Bug 1925792] Re: XKB layout variants not shown in the menu of respective language but under Others

2021-04-28 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I would suggest that you open a terminal window and run:

sudo apt install libgnome-desktop-3-19 gnome-desktop3-data
gir1.2-gnomedesktop-3.0

Then disable hirsute-proposed and run:

sudo apt update

Finally relogin or reboot, and hopefully you'll notice an improvement.

[Bug 1926533] [NEW] Please add "KClock" (an official KDE app) to Ubuntu repositories

2021-04-28 Thread Luna
Public bug reported:

Currently, there are KTimer, Kronometer, KAlarm, KTeaTime. If you use
chronometer, alarms and timer, you'll need to install 3 different
programs. Also, the interface of KTimer and KAlarm is not practical to
manage alarms. There is a KDE app made for both Plasma Mobile and Desktop
named KClock: https://invent.kde.org/plasma-mobile/kclock

KClock is very similar to GNOME Clocks: it has regional clocks, timer,

  * Add Zstandard (zstd) decompression support for binary packages

[Bug 1850779] Re: [L3] snat-ns will be initialized twice for DVR+HA routers during agent restart

2021-04-28 Thread Arjun Baindur
I think this fix causes problems. We have multiple nodes that are
DVR_SNAT mode. Snat namespace is scheduled to 1 of them.

When l3-agent is restarted on the othre nodes, now, initialize() is
invoked always for DvrEdgeRouter which creates the SNAT namespace
prematurely. This in turn causes external_gateway_added() to later
detect that this host is NOT hosting snat router, but the namespace
exists, so it removes it by triggerring
external_gateway_removed(dvr_edge_router --> dvr_local_router)

Problem is that the dvr_local_router code for external_gateway_removed()
ends up DELETING the rfp/fpr pair and severs the qrouter connection to
fip namespace (and deletes all the FIP routes in fip namespace as a
result).

Prior to this bug fix, _create_snat_namespace for DvrEdgeRouter was only
invoked in _create_dvr_gateway(), which was only invoked when the node was
actually hosting SNAT for the router.

Even without the breaking issue of deleting the rtr_2_fip link, this fix
uneccesarily creates SNAT namespace on every host, only for it to be deleted.

FYI this is for non-HA routers

[Bug 1926528] [NEW] random failure of grub-installer, working after several retries

2021-04-28 Thread christopheg
Public bug reported:

I prepared an unattended install usb key for focal base on netboot.iso
"http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/installer-amd64/current/legacy-images/netboot/mini.iso;

I'm modifying it to install a preseed to create user account, auto
partitioning and such things.

On some machines the unattended install stops when executing the step
"Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk".

The problem was rather bizarre because if I retried to execute several
times the Install Grub step it eventually worked.

As the installation logs were not saying much, I eventually edited grub-
installer on the boot key to enable the commented 'set +x' at the
beginning of the script.

Is the content the content of syslog relevant to this bug, both for a
breaking boot loader installation and a working one.

I was able to dig out and find where the bug is coming from. Actually
the origin of the bug is rather funny.

grub-installer script enables break on error with a 'set -e' at
beginning of the script.

A few lines below the script do:

   initial_proc_contents="$(ls $ROOT/proc)"

But in the failing cases ls command is returning an exit code of 1
instead of 0 and stops the script.

I checked by doing a direct ls /target/proc ; echo $? from the shell.
And I actually get 1 most of the time and eventually 0 when I get lucky
(which would lead to grub installing correctly). My understanding of
that the underlying cause is that some process terminated while ls was
running and thus the pid of that process disappeard from the /proc
directory in the middle of the command.

After find that I was also able to check the bug disappears when
modifying grub-installer (just did 'set +e' just before the ls and
reenabled 'set -e' just after it, but there may be a better way to fix
that).

After that change the grub installation step works every time and if I
remove that change it starts again to break randomly.

Hopefully this report will help to fix that behavior in grub-installer
as I don't know how to prepackage package it in my key.

Re: [Bug 1925792] Re: XKB layout variants not shown in the menu of respective language but under Others

2021-04-28 Thread Dee Winthrop
Meanwhile, I have reinstalled. I have done nothing else except enable
this email address and add "Russian" in my language settings.

Clicking the + sign no longer crashes the GUI, but opens "Add an input
source". I have the choice of English and Russian (Russian Federation).
(Norwegian keyboard is already default.)

Running gnome-congrol-center from command line does not generate any
error message and there is nothing in /var/cahe.

[Bug 1926527] [NEW] "Power off" dialog appears when any three keyboard keys are pressed quickly

2021-04-28 Thread Pedro
Public bug reported:

Fresh 21.04 install on a fresh Asus G713QR-HG016. Gnome desktop, Spanish
language.

I first noticed the bug while typing, but I can reduce it to this: when
three keyboard keys are pressed fast enough (and it doesn't need to be
really fast, I'm not a fast typist), the "Power off" dialog appears,
announcing that the system is shutting down automatically in 60 seconds.

It doesn't happen pressing the same key three times quickly. It doesn't
happen either keeping a key pushed. It needs to be at least two
different keys. Typing "aaa" really fast doesn't trigger the bug. Typing
"off" or "any" does.

This happens even when there is no text field in the focus. I can
trigger it pushing keys in the desktop.

Of course, this renders the system unusable for me.

Like napsty above, I'm using LM 19.3. I fixed the problem with printing
by adding the "net_admin caps" correction, per Jamie. That worked fine,
but now the default media player in LM 19.3 won't play mpg4 video files.
If I remove the "net_admin caps" correction, the ability to play mpg4
files is restored. Suggestions? Thanks!

This is caused due to another missing config option in linux-kvm,
CONFIG_KALLSYMS. Lttng seems to have a bug in which if this symbol is

portion make use of that, so voilá hehe

[Bug 1926514] [NEW] iMac late 2012 won't boot (Apple white screen)

2021-04-28 Thread Nicola Rosati
Public bug reported:

I had a Kubuntu hirsute installation since mid february and all was smooth.
After an upgrade around early april the iMac (a late 2012 27" iMac) wouldn't
boot, but remained stuck with the initial white screen (after the Apple sound).
I tried also a clean installation of kubuntu 21.04, but the problem persisted
(live usb boots fine, but once installed it won't boot).
Kubuntu 20.10 boots just fine.
I don't know if the blame belongs to grub or another package.

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1

2021-04-28 Thread C. Jeffery Small
Just to add another voice to the crowd, I'm on Xubuntu 20.04 and I just
ran across this problem myself.

I am using the Nemo file browser, but the same thing occurs with
Nautilus and Thunar. I didn't notice the problem for a long while
because I had three legacy Windows machines on the network (all running
Windows 10 at this point) and had made file browser bookmarks to the
important shares long ago. These bookmarks have continued to work to
this day without issue. I got a new Windows 10 machine a few weeks ago
and was having the problem everyone reports of not being able to connect
("Failed to retrieve share list from server") on the new machine, even
though all the existing bookmarks were still functioning file. All of
the Windows 10 machines were able to see one another without problem.

Then I ran across this thread and tried Bloodyiron's suggestion of
killing the gvfsd-smb-browse process. Immediately I was able to connect
to the new machine using Nemo. I quickly created some needed bookmarks
to the important shares and now I can communicate using the file browser
and expect the new bookmarks to be as reliable as the others. So I
would suggest this bookmark method to others as a workaround.

This supports Craig W's comment about the difference between discovery
and browsing. When I run "smbclient -L // -U ", it
reports all of the shares on the target, whether Windows or Linux, with
the closing message: "SMB1 disabled -- no workgroup available" as
expected.

Unfortunately, this is only a one-way solution. All of the legacy
Windows 10 machines can see and access the Samba shares on the Xubuntu
box, but I haven't yet figured out a way to get the new Windows machine
to access these same shares, with or without gvfsd-smb-browse running.
Every connection attempt is rejected and I haven't found useful messages
in the logs. If I figure out a solution, I'll post here, and I'm open
to suggestions.

I agree with the general sentiment that for a service as important as
this, there isn't any real excuse for this thing dragging out for two
years as it has.

Now that I think I finally found out how to send the /var/crash report,
I'm no longer getting a report when I run gnome-control-center from
command line. The one I have is from 16.13 even though I added 'Crash'
to the "problem" line in /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

What I can do is to reinstall and see what happens then. Let me know if
you want me to do that.

[Bug 1924624] Re: After upgrade to 5.8.0-49/5.8.0-50 with Intel graphics (gen7, Haswell/Ivy Bridge) a lot of glitches render screen unusable

2021-04-28 Thread FairMiles
Same problem in two ThinkPad E430 (Intel HD Graphics 4000; driver i915)
when upgrading to -49 or -50

Additionally, with -50 I can't login (Ubuntu 20.04): cursor appears fine
but login screen (e.g., logo, username, password box) does not appear.
However I can still open non-graphical consoles (e.g., tty3)

Everything works fine booting into -48-generic
