[Bug 1925843] Re: Linux 5.8.0-49+ fails to resume from suspend

2021-08-13 Thread Paddy Landau
> Maybe upgrade to Hirsute? It uses 5.11 kernel.

Unfortunately, the bug is still present in kernel version 5.11.0-25.

In any case, for those who (like me) use the LTS versions, upgrading to
21.04 wouldn't be a solution.

[Bug 1939932] [NEW] Ubuntu PRO Focal on AWS and Azure should not install the generic FIPS kernel via ubuntu-fips metapackage

2021-08-13 Thread Chad Smith
Public bug reported:

For Ubuntu PRO on 20.04 (Focal) `ua enable fips` should only install a
cloud-optimized ubuntu-aws-fips or ubuntu-azure-fips metapackage.
Installing a non-cloud-optimized FIPS kernel on AWS and Azure could lead
to inability to boot on certain instance types. Expectation is that
Focal AWS and Azure images should disallow enabling either fips or fips-
updates.

Expected behavior on Ubuntu PRO AWS and Azure Focal:
$ ua status | grep fips
fips no— NIST-certified FIPS modules
fips-updates no— Uncertified security updates to FIPS
modules

$ sudo ua enable fips-updates
One moment, checking your subscription first
This system will NOT be considered FIPS certified, but will include security
and bug fixes to the FIPS packages.
Are you sure? (y/N) y
This subscription is not entitled to FIPS Updates.
For more information see: https://ubuntu.com/advantage

Actual behavior:
$ ua status | grep fips
fips yesdisabled NIST-certified FIPS modules
fips-updates yesdisabled Uncertified security
updates to FIPS modules

$ sudo ua enable fips-updates
One moment, checking your subscription first

and bug fixes to the FIPS packages.
Are you sure? (y/N) y
Updating package lists

A reboot is required to complete install

# see ubuntu-fips generic get installed which potentially degrades AWS and
Azure environments

wont let me edit my follow up posts, as such, wont be
maintaining/updating this thread, as its frustrating. in short samba
still not working properly.

still have not successfully installed/setup linux mint after several
attempts, and to note.

linux mint cinnamon does not allow duplex sound though input to output
linux mint mate glitches with mate on the default window position on paint shop
pro under wine.

really disappointing so far. if this carries on, im going to some other
OS.

[Bug 1939845] Re: Kernal update 5.4.0-81 broke samba network

2021-08-13 Thread Alexius
FYI

Adding the preconfigured firewall rule for samba, direction both,
category all, subcategory all, does not allow network to work correctly,
even after rebooting with the firewall on. this is surely an issue.

[Bug 1939845] Re: Kernal update 5.4.0-81 broke samba network

2021-08-13 Thread Alexius
Solved.

I reinstalled the whole system exactly the same, then created a
timeslide this time, to then update the kernal..and network was, fine
and working as expected.

The previous install was a fresh install, I had just started using the
linux mint firewall,in the same session, before installing the kernal
update.

The issue was with the firewall that comes with linux mint, when booted
with firewall on, it did not allow network shares to operate correctly,
thereabouts:

-the firewall to linux mint is by default off (which is obviously a bad idea as
some users wont find it till later, and may assume its already on).
-the built in firewall to linux mint does not have a "learning/training mode",
which is a essential feature in my mind, to have prompts on new internet access
by apps.
-after booting with firewall on, then turning the firewall off, then the
network shares do still not work, obviously samba needs some rule creation for
firewall to be on (looking into this).

Thus, I do apologise, im a new user to linux, but, the issue was not
with the kernal, its with the firewall that ships with linux mint, or
the samba not automatically/prompting creating firewall rules.

[Bug 1939927] Re: network unreachable for ppa.launchpad.net

2021-08-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1939927/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1932328] Re: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows

I have managed to reproduce the issue with the upstream build for
78.13.0, downloaded from thunderbird.net, in a fully up-to-date hirsute
VM, executed with MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1.

This rules out a packaging problem.

Tomorrow's daily build of Impish should pickup the new version of shim.
You could check the manifest file before downloading the ISO to be sure.

[Bug 1939918] Re: FTBFS against glibc 2.34

2021-08-13 Thread Dan Bungert
I am not seeking a sponsor at this time.

Attached patch is suitable to get package working again.
HOWEVER, this patched version of libnss-db must be used with
glibc 2.34, as if you do so with glibc 2.33 you see errors
at build time:

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: symbol _nss_files_parse_protoent used by
debian/libnss-db/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnss_db-2.2.3.so found in none
of the libraries

and at runtime the module will fail.

[Bug 1937115] Re: Unable to boot/install Impish daily in UEFI boot mode

2021-08-13 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Leó, or anyone else affected,

Accepted shim-signed into focal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-signed/1.40.7
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

2021-08-13 Thread William Wilson
I am also hitting this error. I think I've been having it for a little
while, but have just today started digging into it.

I tried the zfs_recover suggestion to get rid of the corrupted files,
but that did not work:

jawn-smith@desktop:~$ zfs version
zfs-2.0.3-8ubuntu7
zfs-kmod-2.0.2-1ubuntu5
jawn-smith@desktop:~$ cat /sys/module/zfs/parameters/zfs_recover

jawn-smith@desktop:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/BOOT/ubuntu_ixviql@/vmlinuz-5.11.0-22-generic
root=ZFS=rpool/ROOT/ubuntu_ixviql ro quiet splash acpi=force zfs.zfs_recover=1
vt.handoff=1

Trying to then run `rm -rf ` resulted in this:
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/fh336kcStH/

The machine is usable for now, so I'll leave it in this state for a
while in order to help troubleshoot.

[Bug 1939339] Re: Security exception raised by java.util.Properties.store() when using openjdk-16-jdk

2021-08-13 Thread Rick Hillegas
Stuart Marks (from the Open JDK team) has found the problematic code in
https://packages.debian.org/unstable/java/openjdk-16-source and
identified two bugs in it, including the one responsible for this
behavior. For that bug, he has recommended a fix. Please see his
analysis at https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8272157

It would be great if an Ubuntu engineer could coordinate with Stuart,
perhaps via the Open JDK issue, and apply the bug fixes he recommends.
Thanks.

[Bug 1939423] Re: Comply with API changes in runc 1.0.1

2021-08-13 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Thanks for the review Sergio (again) :)

Answering your questions:

- I am not the author, yes. I just adapted the upstream commit, I'll
change this field to Reviewed-By.

- The upstream commit also updates the runc version embedded in its
code, since this package does not contain vendorized deps we do not need
it, just the buildah code changes.

- Sure, I'll change to backport.

The debdiff attached addresses what you mentioned.

[Bug 1939423] Re: Comply with API changes in runc 1.0.1

2021-08-13 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
One more review for Lucas coming out :-).

I looked at debdiff and I have a few questions:

- IIUC you're not the author of the upstream patch, right?

- Forgive my ignorance, but why is the upstream patch so big while the
backported patch is really small and contained? Is it because the
upstream patch contemplates several more changes than just adjusting
buildah to the new runc API?

- I think using "Origin: backport" instead of "Origin: upstream" would
be more appropriate in this case, given that the patch needed to be
manually adjusted.

I built the package locally using your patch and it works. I also verified
that the autopkgtests are indeed passing. I'll wait for your reply to my
questions before I give my +1.

Here is a patch applying the upstream fix for this issue.

A PPA with the proposed change is available at
https://launchpad.net/~athos-ribeiro/+archive/ubuntu/lp-1939916-sane-
airscan/+packages

Note that the bug does not affect Debian yet (Ubuntu version differs
from Debian version; and Debian does not ship GCC 11). Moreover, this
may possibly not affect Debian at all, depending on when a new Debian
package version is released (considering the fix is present in
upstream's development version).

[Bug 1935082] Re: [MIR] egl-wayland

2021-08-13 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Symbols tracking has been added in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/egl-wayland/1:1.1.7-2 which is not
migrating as it is stuck behind glibc

ADT test is hard to provide => functional one needs nvidia graphics
cards that are not present in ADT; and compile test is equally hard
given that it is effectively a plugin.

ubuntu-x-swat is now subscribed.

I upgraded to 2.9.3~beta1 (9197-g.afe92bb63), which appears to have the

It's apparently a recurrance of this prematurely closed upstream bug
report:

https://github.com/kovidgoyal/kitty/issues/98

Following the suggestions in that discussion, my user was already in the
audio and video groups. I installed mesa-utils and ran glxgears, which
shows animated gears. This further suggests that the underlying
machinery is in place.

[Bug 1939910] [NEW] vital entities missing

2021-08-13 Thread wfjm
Public bug reported:

I installed ghdl-gcc for ubuntu 20.04.
Tried to compile the vendor libraries from Vivado 2019.2 (version doesn't
matter).
That fails with
unisim_VPKG.vhd:48:10: unit "vital_timing" not found in library "ieee"
unisim_VPKG.vhd:49:10: unit "vital_primitives" not found in library "ieee"
  unisim_VPKG.vhd:66:16: no declaration for "vitaltablesymboltype"

Reason is, that the vital_* entities are missing in the libraries.
They are definitely in the GHDL project.
I've installed it from sources and I also get
vital_primitives-body.o
vital_primitives.o
vital_timing-body.o
vital_timing.o

In this form the Ubuntu (and likely also Debian) package is useless for
any application which involves Xilinx UNISIM primitives.

Trimming the libs to a bare minimum might save a few MByte.
How cares these days. But limits usability significantly.

[Bug 1939417] Re: Ubuntu GUI crashes (w and w/o Wayland), VM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT, amdgpu 0000:09:00.0: [gfxhub0] retry page fault

a preliminary test with a kernel 5.4.0-81-generic #91-Ubuntu SMP Thu
Jul 15 19:09:17 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux did not show
the crash yet. I do not consider this to be a reliable test but at least
it indicates a significantly more stable behaviour.

[Bug 1939592] Re: Login screen (gdm3) is purple blank after switching userA -> userB -> userA again

2021-08-13 Thread Andrey Arapov
** Description changed:

Login screen (gdm3) is purple blank after switching userA -> userB ->
  userA again.

Sometimes need to switch 5 times.. but definitely after around 5 times
gdm3 breaks (it shows just a blank purple screen with the cursor).

  ## Workaround

Ctrl+Alt+F3 (or F4.. F5...) until I get to the user I need to (and unlock the
screensaver there).
OR: switch to the console and run "exec sudo systemctl restart gdm3". ("exec"
is not necessary but highly desirable from the security point of view, so there
won't be a logged in session).

  ## Workaround 2

To not use gdm3. There are alternatives such as sddm or ligthdm:

  sudo apt install sddm

  OR

  sudo apt install lightdm

-
  Ctrl+Alt+F5 (drop to a console)

I wouldn't think so - this change should only impact armhf.

[Bug 1938920] Re: [SRU] Update to netplan.io 0.103

2021-08-13 Thread Lukas Märdian
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
This release contains both bug-fixes and new features and we would like to
make sure all of our supported customers have access to those improvements.

The most notable changes (besides usual bug-fixes) incoming in 0.103:
  - Add YAML generator and Keyfile parser for NetworkManager YAML backend
  - Add activation-mode parameter, needs systemd v248+ (LP: #1664844)
- - Deprecate gateway4 & gateway6 in favor of defaults routes (LP: #1756590)
+ - Add default routes as extension of gateway4 & gateway6 (LP: #1756590)
  - Add io.netplan.Netplan.Generate() DBus method
  - Changed the way of how unmanaged-devices are handled by NetworkManager
  - Improve integration test suite (LP: #1922126)

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.

  [Test Plan]
The following development and SRU process was followed:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetplanUpdates

Netplan contains an extensive integration test suite that is ran using
the SRU package for each release. This test suite's results are available
here:
  http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/n/netplan.io

A successful run is required before the proposed netplan.io package
  can be let into -updates.

The netplan team will be in charge of attaching the artifacts and console
output of the appropriate run to the bug. Netplan team members will not
mark ‘verification-done’ until this has happened.

  [Where problems could occur]
Netplan being a core package it could impact the whole networking stack of
the operating system up to the point where servers would not be reachable
anymore after a reboot, due to broken network config being generated by netplan
at bootup. In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned integration tests are attached to this bug:

  Hirsute:
  TBD groovy_amd64.log
  TBD groovy_arm64.log
  TBD groovy_armhf.log
  TBD groovy_ppc64el.log
  TBD groovy_s390x.log

  Focal:
  TBD focal_amd64.log
  TBD focal_arm64.log
  TBD focal_armhf.log
  TBD focal_ppc64el.log
  TBD focal_s390x.log

  [Other Info]
The integration test logs will be attached to this bug, once the package has
been accepted into -proposed and the tests have been executed on the real
infrastructure.
