[Bug 214863] Re: various bugs and trust issues

2021-09-22 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
we are cleaning various old bugs. When checking this one I found that
this was replaced by monitoring plugins in bug 1564858.
Also it isn't in main anymore (demoted after xenial).

The errors are not fixed, so this is sadly after all the time still valid, but
to drive this one would need to outline that in detail to upstream.
Given that it isn't in main anymore I'll reduce the priority further.

[Bug 1944667] Re: High CPU usage in Xorg with NVIDIA reverse prime external monitor

2021-09-22 Thread Rocko
Thanks for looking so quickly. I'm almost certain the problem will go
away without the nvidia driver because the nouveau driver didn't
recognise the hardware when I booted off the USB installer, so reverse
prime won't work and there will be no external monitor, which is a
completely new problem.

I was logged into a clean profile with no non-standard gnome-shell
extensions running, and 'top' showed Xorg (40%) and irq/93-nvidia (1%)
and nvidia-modeset/ (0.3%) as the top three CPU hogs, so it's unlikely
to be extensions causing it.

FYI, when I checked the journal log for those nv_drm_master_set errors
right now, I can see a bunch at 11:47 and another bunch at 11:54, but
nothing since (it's now 12:43). But the CPU usage is still high.

this commit
https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/218438259dd795456f0a48f67cbe5b4e520db88b

on unknown syscalls. So I guess we're back to the "do we disable clone3 for

[Bug 1944667] Re: High CPU usage in Xorg with NVIDIA reverse prime external monitor

Also your kernel log shows repeated crashes in the Nvidia driver:

[Bug 1944667] Re: High CPU usage in Xorg with NVIDIA reverse prime external monitor

2021-09-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
High CPU usage has always been a problem for the Nvidia driver. Although
high CPU when no apps are running is new... Do you have any non-Ubuntu
GNOME extensions running that might be updating the screen in ways
you're not noticing? Xorg itself does idle to zero CPU very well so
*something* external is probably triggering it.

[Bug 1944468] Re: Electron applications all crash upon launch

2021-09-22 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
So I am having a bit of a hard time debugging this. My conclusions so
far:

1) it's a real problem
2) it's related to the new clone3 syscall

Do electron apps use seccomp by default? It seems code has some way to
turn this off automagically but if I run code --enable-sandbox it
reliably crashes. Haven't been able to gdb to the crashing point yet
though.

[Bug 1944661] Re: changing screen positions (mate-control-center.displays) caused one display to become unreadable/unusable

2021-09-22 Thread Chris Guiver
On this machine - the flashing appears to be only at the bottom of
my.right (the portrait-left tilted display).. ie. the section that is
below the other display.

effect is it's less annoying than the prior box (which was the whole
background strobe-like flashing).

I've now adjusted the display a few times; all flashing has now ALL GONE
but it wasn't the multiple changes that caused it to stop, but my
clicking on the SHOW.DESKTOP (which hid all windows) that caused it to
stop.

dell d780 box - very different GPU to hp (see prior comment)

[Bug 1944661] Re: changing screen positions (mate-control-center.displays) caused one display to become unreadable/unusable

2021-09-22 Thread Chris Guiver
Another QA-test on different hardware
- dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)

the moment I adjusted screens... same behavior as hp.8200; TRAILS appear
in the Monitor.Preferences window, and flashing.background on one
display. this box has very different GPU so I didn't expect the issue
here - but this looks the same (not as annoying on these displays).

screen change this box is swap left-right and my-right display is
portrait-right-tilt.

TRAILS & FLASHY single-display occurring here too

[Bug 1944667] [NEW] High CPU usage in Xorg with NVIDIA reverse prime external monitor

2021-09-22 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

With my Legion Slim 7 in hybrid graphics mode (using amdgpu to drive the
laptop display) and an external monitor connected via the nvidia card on
a USB-C/HDMI connection, Xorg consistently uses around 40% CPU even with
no apps running.

If I put the laptop in discrete graphics mode so the nvidia card drives
both the laptop display and the external monitor Xorg uses close to 0%
CPU, which is what I would expect it to be in hybrid mode.

[Bug 1944666] [NEW] listener provisioning status in ERROR when port is 1025 and allowed_cidr is explicitly set to 0.0.0.0/0

2021-09-22 Thread Hemanth Nakkina
Public bug reported:

Corresponding upstream story link:
https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/story/2009117

Created a loadbalancer and a listener with protocol tcp protocol_port
1025 and allowed_cidr 0.0.0.0/0, the listener ends up in provisioning
status as ERROR.

Error message in Octavia worker log
neutronclient.common.exceptions.Conflict: Security group rule already exists

This is a very edge case only when protocol port is 1025 (same as peer
port which is hardcoded to constants.HAPROXY_BASE_PEER_PORT i.e, 1025)
and allowed_cidr is explicitly set to 0.0.0.0/0.

Reproducer:
openstack loadbalancer create --name lb1 --vip-subnet-id private_subnet
openstack loadbalancer listener create --name lb1-listener --protocol tcp
--protocol-port 1025 --allowed-cidr 0.0.0.0/0 lb1
openstack loadbalancer listener show lb1-listener lb1

The culprit is [1] where the allowed_cidr for peer port should handle
both None and 0.0.0.0/0 as 0.0.0.0/0 is the default value.

Tested on: Ubuntu Focal Ussuri Octavia packages

Fix available in Upstream until stable/train (not part of any point release)
https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/octavia/+/804485

[Bug 1944575] Re: Acer Aspire 5 issue when headphone plug in before login

2021-09-22 Thread Bijay Shah
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

  Hello,

Acer Aspire A515-56-57XR with ALC255 when headphone is plugged in before
login causes few issues. I will list them below:
  - When headphones are plugged in and if I restart/shutdown-turn on the laptop
and log in it does not detect headphones microphone at all and internal
microphone is selected by default.
  - For output device headphones are plugged in but left/right channel is
merged into both channels
  - To fix this need to re-plug the headphones/earphones and the issue goes
away or after a restart/shutdown plug in only after logging in.
  - This issue does not occur when log off and log in only after a restart or
cold boot from a shutdown while headphones/earphones are left plugged in.

In another similar thread to this lots of other issues were fixed and they
have been already merged into official kernel now. I will put a link to it
below for reference. Looking to fix this issue now.

[Bug 1944661] Re: changing screen positions (mate-control-center.displays) caused one display to become unreadable/unusable

2021-09-22 Thread Chris Guiver
Nothing really new in this picture to the last.

it's identical to prior uploaded.photo except I adjusted the bottom
monitor to be slightly-left (askew) of the top display (thus the black
borders shown in the picture).

EXCEPT for the TRAILS in the Monitor.Preferences window

no issue here at all. Clicking apply & no flashing, system remained
usable/readable & perfectly matches what the change I made.

This was reflected in subsequent changes I tested/tried

[Bug 1944606] Re: [EDIFIER X3 R, recording] Microphone is not detected as an audio input

2021-09-22 Thread Hui Wang
According to the PulseList.txt in the #1, the default input device should be
"Digital Microphone - sof-hda-dsp":
Default source name:
alsa_input.pci-_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp_6__source

I have no idea why "Device doesn't appear in the input options inside gnome
sound controls", could you upload a picture to show it?

[Bug 1944661] Re: changing screen positions (mate-control-center.displays) caused one display to become unreadable/unusable

2021-09-22 Thread Chris Guiver
at this time I've re-opened the Control.Centre.Displays option (top
display), and altered the relative position of each other..

Please NOTICE the SHADOW/TRAILS of the movement I made of the 'green' or
originally 'right' monitor which was dragged to be below the left one.

Also NOTICE all trails on the lower-display are now gone; so has all
FLASHING/STROBING on that display (it's now static). It's now 100%
usable & readable.

The trails being left on

PS: I wonder if this issue is nouveau related, and NOT a Ubuntu-MATE
issue; but again whilst I'm convinced I've had this issue before, I
didn't find bug reports about it.

From this point on the system experience was GREAT
(making it both easier for me to type in the problem, but now I need to
describe a condition I saw in the past - no longer occurring)

[Bug 1944661] Re: changing screen positions (mate-control-center.displays) caused one display to become unreadable/unusable

2021-09-22 Thread Chris Guiver
another pic..

the top screens with terminal is perfectly calm & useable.

bottom screen (where window trails exist) is flashing/strobe-like

It's mostly the background that strobes; the windows themselves are
somewhat usable/readable - caja is shown here and were it not for the
flashing of wallpaper & background-stuff, it's likely 100% usable.

[Bug 1944661] Re: changing screen positions (mate-control-center.displays) caused one display to become unreadable/unusable

2021-09-22 Thread Chris Guiver
You'll note the lower display has a mess of windows..

What the picture does not show is that the whole screen is
flashing/strobe like; it appears a messy-clear image on the picture; but
the image is not actually static but flashing...

I've since further tested & adjusted display position again (when the
flashing stopped) so I can't describe what it was like that well; but it
was very irritating & made it difficult to concentrate even on the one
display that was perfectly normal

FYI: I'm still convinced I've experienced this before; but I can't find bug
reports on it, and these actual screens are shared with other boxes; so I maybe
thinking of the hp dc7700 (another box that uses same screens/keyboard/mouse
etc)

[Bug 1944661] [NEW] changing screen positions (mate-control-center.displays) caused one display to become unreadable/unusable

2021-09-22 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu MATE live QA-test on
- hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)
another check for

My display setup is strange (one monitor above the other), so using the
Displays area of Ubuntu-MATE Control Center to adjust, I drag the
location of one relative to the other to where it should be for my
setup.

** Expected results

I expect the Monitor.Preferences to show show ghost-images, and clicking
APPLY I expect the display orientation to adjust to the changed setup,
and both displays to be readable, static & usable.

** Actual results

On dragging one relative to the other, the Monitor.Preferences image is
showing a trail of where it was dragged like solitaire years ago (on
another OS) when you 'won'.. Not expected

On clicking Apply
- my.top monitor is perfectly clear & usable
- the displays are orientated correctly relative to one another
- my.bottom display is now unusable/unreadable as it's a constant
changing/flashing mess

Dragging windows on my.lower display now leave trails (on desktop), the
flashing/changing (strobe-like) could be a problem for some health
conditions possibly (seizure?), but it's very annoying (it's occurring
on what I consider my primary monitor when I'm seated as I am
currently).

** More detail/testing

Strange - on closing Monitor.Preferences window, and re-opening it
again.. my.lower monitor stopped it's flashing/changing images & became
fully readable & usable.

Adjusting the screen.location in Control.Centre.Displays again still
leave trails in the "Monitor Preferences" window, but that is easily
ignored as it's only used once (or a few times) as its operation was
effective anyway.

[Bug 1944542] Re: [Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15IIL05] very slow

2021-09-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes that CPU usage looks too high for an idle system, although probably
not so high as to explain this bug. Please try:

  top -d 60

to get the 60-second average of CPU usage. Run it for several minutes
and tell us which process bubbles to the top.

Please also run:

  journalctl -b0 > newjournal.txt
  gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > shellsettings.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

Gunnar, I was able to build gnome-shell with tests successfully on

[Bug 1616079] Re: [Latitude E7270, Realtek ALC3235, Speaker, Internal] Pulseaudio fails to detect card, no sound in speaker nor in line out

2021-09-22 Thread WhyteHorse
This is still a bug in 20.04.3 LTS. It's a fresh install with
proprietary drivers enabled from the installer. Could it be routing
analog audio to the wrong place? I can get it to work fine with
bluetooth headphones, usb headphones on the dock and the laptop. I can't
get any audio from the analog jacks on the laptop or the dock or the
built in speakers.
