[Bug 1958389] Re: Jammy builds of xen segfault, but only on launchpad x86 builders
Thanks for the hint, in case anyone needs to do the same - you can see the associated builder right when the build starts - then abort it immediately, refresh and rebuild. That way you get 1 build try <1min, I got lgw01 018 lgw01 044 lgw01 023 lcy02 001 And the build on the latter I let finish which indeed let it build successfully. That also means the crash I got locally is actually relevant to doko or anyone else looking for this from binutils POV. Therefore I'll attach mine. ** Changed in: xen (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958389 Title: Jammy builds of xen segfault, but only on launchpad x86 builders To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad-buildd/+bug/1958389/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1958109] Re: [MIR] v4l2-relayd
** Description changed: [Background] https://gitlab.com/vicamo/v4l2-relayd [Impact] With this package, we can use the v4l2loopback device to bridge any video content by gstreamer as a virtual camera device. We need this with LP: #1958108 - [Canonical Partners] ipu6-camera-bins, ipu6-camera-hal, gst-plugins-icamera to enable Intel MIPI camera. [Testing] 1. Install v4l2-relayd and v4l2loopback-dkms. - 2. Modify /etc/default/v4l2-relayd to make VIDEOSRC=videotestsrc, FORMAT=YUV2, WIDTH=1280, HEIGHT=720, FRAMERATE=30/1 and CARD_LABEL="Intel MIPI Camera". + 2. Modify /etc/default/v4l2-relayd to make VIDEOSRC=videotestsrc, FORMAT=YUY2, WIDTH=1280, HEIGHT=720, FRAMERATE=30/1 and CARD_LABEL="Intel MIPI Camera". 3. Reboot the system 4. We should be able to use the virtual camera. [Regression Potential] None [Availability] You can find the package on https://launchpad.net/~oem-solutions- group/+archive/ubuntu/intel-ipu6. [Bug 1958389] Re: Jammy builds of xen segfault, but only on launchpad x86 builders
Thanks Colin, even without debug symbols that still is probably enough to confirm it is actually the same crash that I see on my laptop. While I do not see why it is fatal for the build on LP but not on local sbuild or dpkg-buildpkg in a local VM it means that most likely someone looking into this from the binutils POV can reproduce it the way I outlined in my report on most common intel laptops. In use here I have: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz Maybe you could add what chip the failing lgw01 builders use to try isolating the affected series? /me is trying to retry until it ran on an lcy02 builder now ... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958389 Title: Jammy builds of xen segfault, but only on launchpad x86 builders To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad-buildd/+bug/1958389/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OK so KDE discover in 5.18 version downloads natively in QT using a QNetworkRequest. [Bug 1958488] Re: [nvidia][xorg] display hangs on boot LOGO
Note that gnome-shell (which also renders the login screen for gdm) always uses the primary iGPU for rendering regardless of whether some monitors are plugged into a dGPU port. The latter get their framebuffers rendered on the iGPU but copied to the dGPU for output on every frame. This makes sense for the common dual-GPU case of a laptop where you want to be able to connect an external monitor to any port (even if that port is wired to dGPU) while still using the iGPU for efficiency by default. But enough from me. You should propose any patches to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/ (or to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter) to get more authoritative information from the developers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958488 Title: [nvidia][xorg] display hangs on boot LOGO To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1958488/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1958488] [NEW] [nvidia][xorg] display hangs on boot LOGO
Public bug reported: Test environment/steps: 1. A desktop or workstation which containing an iGPU. 2. Plug a nvidia graphic card to the system and installing proprietary nvidia driver (470 in my case) 3. Attach a monitor to dGPU and leave iGPU connect to nothing. (in my test environment, there is the other ethernet card and TBT4 cards) 4. Reboot system. Based on: $ cat /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules # disable Wayland on Hi1710 chipsets ATTR{vendor}=="0x19e5", ATTR{device}=="0x1711", RUN+="/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-disable-wayland" # disable Wayland when using the proprietary nvidia driver DRIVER=="nvidia", RUN+="/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-disable-wayland" It will disable wayland by default if proprietary nvidia driver load. But in some race condition cases, the nvidia probe is later than gnome launches. (The fail rate is 6/24.) Thus, ubuntu-gdm has a fix for Bug#1794280 to add "ExecStartPre=@libexecdir@/gdm-wait-for-drm". The gdm-wait-for-drm is intend to make sure all drm udev devices enumerated before launching gdm. It rely on at least one "master-of-seat" graphic card for gdm but it's not rigorous enough. Since most of graphic cards are own "master-of-seat"[1]. In my case, it detects the iGPU is probed but dGPU. However, the display is attached to dGPU. We need to make sure the targeted gpu (connecting to monitor) is probe before launching gdm. [Bug 1958318] Re: Desktop hangs - Status reg 3.
Hi Rob, The kernel team enabled Intel IOMMU by default for the 5.15 kernel, since upstream has now turned it on by default. This happened in: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1951440 We are aware that it will cause boot issues for older hardware that has buggy firmware, and we hope to try get things running at smoothly as we can. I looked up the firmware for your Thinkpad 510, and it seems version 1.52 is the latest. You might have to run with intel_iommu=off, which can be added to your grub config in /etc/default/grub by appending it to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, and running "sudo update-grub". On an installed system, anyway. [Bug 1958481] [NEW] check_disk forcibly ignores tmpfs
Public bug reported: check_disk ignores tmpfs filesystems due to an Ubuntu patch (debian/patches/exclude-tmpfs-squashfs-tracefs.patch) added for LP #1827159. This is a bad idea. On my servers, I have a tmpfs mounted at /tmp. Last night, /tmp filled up on one of them, resulting in significant breakage. My Icinga disk alerting did not notify me, because it's ignoring all tmpfs filesystems. I looked to see why and found that ignoring tmpfs is the Icinga default, so I adjusted that in my configuration. Unfortunately, that still didn't work. I eventually tracked that down to this patch. Because this tmpfs exclusion has been hardcoded in, it is impossible for me to override this decision. While I think you should simply remove tmpfs from that patch, an alternative approach would be to move the code lower, after the arguments have been parsed, and conditionalize it. Something like this: if (!fs_exclude_list) { np_add_name(&fs_exclude_list, "squashfs"); np_add_name(&fs_exclude_list, "tmpfs"); np_add_name(&fs_exclude_list, "tracefs"); } np_add_name(&fs_exclude_list, "iso9660"); Note that iso9660 is outside the conditional and thus always added as per the upstream behavior. Thus the default behavior would be the same as now with the patch, but if the user customizes the exclude list with -X (e.g. in Icinga, or just via the command line), that would be honored. ** Affects: monitoring-plugins (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958481 Title: check_disk forcibly ignores tmpfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monitoring-plugins/+bug/1958481/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1958444] Re: Xorg sometimes seems to crash when Plover is running
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. The only evidence of an nvidia driver provided in this bug report is nvidia-installer.log.txt which shows 367.48 was installed in 2016, and the bug tag 'possible-manual-nvidia-install'. There is also a manual test plan https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlan/flatpak . Flatpak has autopkgtests enabled http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/f/flatpak . Regression potential is low, and upstream is very responsive to any issues raised. [Patches] The first CVE has 4 patches (+ 1 test patch), the second CVE has 1 patch (+ 6 doc/test patches). [Other Information] For the first advisory with the CVE: Ryan Gonzalez discovered that Flatpak doesn't properly validate that the permissions displayed to the user for an app at install time match the actual permissions granted to the app at runtime, in the case that there's a null byte in the metadata file of an app. Therefore apps can grant themselves permissions without the consent of the user. Flatpak shows permissions to the user during install by reading them from the "xa.metadata" key in the commit metadata. This cannot contain a null terminator, because it is an untrusted GVariant. Flatpak compares these permissions to the actual metadata, from the "metadata" file to ensure it wasn't lied to. However, the actual metadata contents are loaded in several places where they are read as simple C-style strings. That means that, if the metadata file includes a null terminator, only the content of the file from before the terminator gets compared to xa.metadata. Thus, any permissions that appear in the metadata file after a null terminator are applied at runtime but not shown to the user. Maliciously crafted apps can use this to give themselves hidden permissions. In addition, a similar weakness was discovered, where if the permissions in the summary metadata are invalid, they would not be displayed to the user, but the the actual permissions would be granted, even though it didn't match the invalid version. - For the second advisory: flatpak-builder applies finish-args last in the build. At this point the build directory will have the full access that is specified in the manifest, so running flatpak build against it will gain that permissions. Normally this will not be done, so this is not problem. However, if --mirror-screenshots-url is specified, then flatpak-builder will launch flatpak build --nofilesystem=host appstream-utils mirror- screenshots after finalization, which can lead to issues even with the --nofilesystem=host protection. There are two issues: - --nofilesystem=host only overrides the access to the full host. The app can still request access to a specific directory, like --filesystem=~/some-dir, which is not affected by this. - If a filesystem is specified like --filesystem=~/foobar:create, then that directory will be created before running the command. + --nofilesystem=host only overrides the access to the full host. The app can still request access to a specific directory, like --filesystem=~/some-dir, which is not affected by this. + If a filesystem is specified like --filesystem=~/foobar:create, then that directory will be created before running the command. [Bug 1958467] [NEW] focal linux-firmware package omits amdgpu/navi12 firmware
Public bug reported: The 20.04 LTS linux-firmware package list was cut before the amdgpu/navi12* firmware files were upstreamed to the Linux kernel repository, which is unfortunate because this hardware is older than some other included firmware (navi14*), and the firmware is required for using the AMDGPU kernel module on AWS EC2 cloud instances with AMD GPUs. The files are included in 21.04 and 21.10, but to date they have not been included in the LTS hardware-enablement releases for 20.04. It would be helpful to include the navi12 firmware files for the next LTS+HWE release, since 22.04 isn't due out for a while. Without this firmware it is difficult to get AWS EC2 G4ad instances working with Ubuntu, as customers need to manually download and install the firmware from a reputable source and put it into the appropriate directory, which is not the experience they expect on hardware that is over a year old with the most recent HWE release. ** Affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958467 Title: focal linux-firmware package omits amdgpu/navi12 firmware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1958467/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1947043] Re: nvidia drivers do not update initramfs properly
@xnox: Upon investigation, and per our conversation on IRC, I did some experimenting with the prebuilt modules. Unfortunately, these use llvmpipe and don't interface well with nvidia-settings. Using ubuntu-drivers to install the drivers used *the exact same mechanism* as installing nvidia-drivers-470 directly, but also configured our systems to use the hybrid graphics mode, which has been known to cause performance issues on our branded CLEVO chassis computers especially when connected to external displays. Your suggestions were good, but in this instance they don't make a whole lot of sense. I do, however, understand your reluctance to rebuild all initramfs for each kernel as it might break things. I feel as though we can probably close this bug as your rationale is sound, and the mechanism we have works for our customers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1947043 Title: nvidia drivers do not update initramfs properly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules/+bug/1947043/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
