[Bug 1956115] Re: ubuntu-advantage-tools ' MOTD is incompatible with Ubuntu Legal's MOTD opt-out directions.

2022-03-06 Thread Steve Langasek
You did respond to the questions so this should not have expired out.
However, your answers beget more questions so I will be setting this
back to incomplete.

the ENABLED variable from 1 to 0.

The file did exist by default in the focal release, but the changes in
LP: #1888575 were SRUed such that this file also does not exist on an
up-to-date Desktop system of a previous Ubuntu release - only on an
Ubuntu Server system.

So your objection is in the context of Ubuntu Desktop, not Server?

I do not understand what this refers to, because the
/lib/systemd/system/motd-news.service service calls /etc/update-
motd.d/50-motd-news, which does nothing if the file /etc/default/motd-
news does not exist. This is the case on Desktop systems. So can you
clarify what it is that is running that you think should not be?

[Bug 1960996] Re: [sru] sos upstream 4.3

2022-03-06 Thread nikhil kshirsagar
Hi Lukasz,

I have tested bionic in a VM and also a bionic container and verified
the installed package is OK.

root@juju-677128-1-lxd-0:~# dpkg -l | grep sos
ii sosreport 4.3-1ubuntu0.18.04.1amd64
Set of tools to gather troubleshooting data from a system
root@juju-677128-1-lxd-0:~# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic

testing:
https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/bNbcGmS2yM/

The produced sos archive looks reasonable. (some ceph commands error out
due to those not being present in luminous, that is expected)

I also ran latest hotsos on the produced bionic archive and verified it works
fine.

[Bug 1963698] Re: ovn-controller on Wallaby creates high CPU usage after moving port

2022-03-06 Thread Nobuto Murata
In this specific case (the environment Olivier described), we tested
focal-xena and the issue was NOT reproducible. We've decided to go with
Xena so field-high can be dropped (I'm not able to remove the
subscription by myself here).

Assuming that it might be focal-wallaby specific since we haven't seen this
kind of issues in other customers with ussuri, there may be some patches which
needs to be backported. e.g. other distribution seems to have backported the
following:
https://github.com/ovn-org/ovn/commit/c83294970c62f662015a7979b12250580bee3001
(no idea if it's connected to the issue or not though)

[Bug 1963864] [NEW] Can't resolve using custom nsswitch.conf items

2022-03-06 Thread shemgp
Public bug reported:

The host /etc/nsswitch.conf is not being honored inside the snap
container leading to .docker (or using my custom plugin .lxd) hosts not
being resolved.

How to reproduce:
1. Run a docker host name 'test' with a http server in it.
2. Install libnss-docker.
3. ping test.docker and see that it works.
4. Open snap firefox.
5. Access http://test.docker and see that it doesn't resolve the IP properly,
thus the site is not opened.

Another way to reproduce:
1. Create a lxd container named 'test' with a http server in it.
2. Download and install:
https://launchpad.net/~shemgp/+archive/ubuntu/other-apps/+files/libnss-lxd_0.06-0ubuntu2~impish_amd64.deb
3. Ping test.lxd and see that it works.
4. Open snap firefox.
5. Access http://test.lxd and see that it doesn't resolve the IP properly, thus
not being able to access the website.

I'm not sure how to be able to resolve this since the binary is in the
host? Perhaps systemd-resolved's dnsmasq can be coaxed to use
/etc/nsswitch.conf and the container's be coaxed to use the hosts :53
dns?

[Bug 1963863] [NEW] Typing localhost:8080 no longer works since the snap

2022-03-06 Thread Evert Pot
Public bug reported:

When I'm opening an address like localhost:8080 (without the http), snap
firefox will assume that 'localhost' is the scheme and start an
application that registered localhost:

To test, open Firefox and type 'localhost:8080' in the address bar and
hit enter.

[Bug 1920194] Re: [MIR] oem-somerville-pearl-meta

2022-03-06 Thread Yao Wei
Checked the following:

 1. Test that `ubuntu-drivers list-oem` lists the meta-package on the
relevant hardware

 2. Test that fully installing the meta-package (upgrading to the OEM
archive if relevant) works properly on the hardware

 3. Do an offline install. Boot the system. Run update-manager. Check
that an upgrade to the OEM package is offered and that it completes
successfully and the hardware works properly.

[Bug 1963850] [NEW] xcape-super-binding.desktop doesn't show in the autostart application list

2022-03-06 Thread Xu Zhen
Public bug reported:

/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/autostart/xcape-super-binding.desktop was added
into xubuntu-default-settings 21.10.3. It will be launched at session
startup, but it doesn't appear in the `Application Autostart' list of
xfce4-session-settings.

Since it will change the behavior of the super key, the users using the
super key as a shortcut in other applications may get confused.

The solution is easy: add one line `Type=Application' into the xcape-
super-binding.desktop, then it will appear in the list, and the affected
users can easily disable it.

I have new, interesting case.

Ryzen motherboard with empty NVME slot. I installed Ubuntu to SATA
drive, it worked for several days. I added NVME SSD disk to M.2 NVME
slot on motherboard, disk is empty. After reboot, network interface was
not configured. Reason? Once NVME disk was added, eth interface was
renumbered from enp4s0 to enp5s0 and DHCP client was not started for
enp5s0. I modified /etc/netplan/00-installer-config.yaml file, I
replaced enp4s0 with enp5s0...

[Bug 1951032] Re: AArch64: Backport memcpy improvements

2022-03-06 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
** Description changed:

  [impact]
glibc 2.32 contained a number of improvements to the memcpy routines for
server-grade AArch64 implementations (in particular, graviton2 & graviton3).
They should be backported to focal, as the LTS releases are by far the most
used on servers.

  [test case]
- Compile the test_memcpy.c that is attached to this report:
+ Download the "bench.tar.gz" attachment from this report. It has a README
+ that explains what to do, but here it is for reference:

- $ gcc -g -O3 test_memcpy.c -o test_memcpy64
+ benchmark for testing arm64 memcpy improvements in SRU

- "./test_memcpy64 1024" should be run before and after installing the
- libc packages from proposed. On graviton2 systems, this should show a
- substantial improvement. On other arm64 systems (raspberry pis of
- various vintage, thunderx2, xgene, etc etc) at least no significant
- regression should be seen.
+ This is a benchmark that was derived from the memcpy benchmarks in glibc but
altered to benchmark the public 'memcpy' symbol and be linked to the
+ installed libc.
+
+ To use this there are 5 steps:
+
+ 1. build -- just run "make test"
+ 2. run before upgrade -- "make bench-before"
+ 3. upgrade libc6 package -- depends on what is being tested!
+ 4. run again -- "make bench-after"
+ 5. compare -- "make compare"
+
+ It produces output like this:
+
+length | before |after |delta
+ --|--|--|--
+ 32768 | 125995 | 133696 | -6.11%
+ 65536 | 133349 | 140856 | -5.63%
+131072 | 139653 | 146419 | -4.84%
+262144 | 145441 | 152353 | -4.75%
+524288 | 191951 | 199856 | -4.12%
+ 1048576 | 240515 | 256623 | -6.70%
+
+ On graviton2 systems, this should show an improvement of at least
+ several percent. On other arm64 systems (raspberry pis of various
+ vintage, thunderx2, xgene, etc etc) no significant regression should be
+ seen.

  [regression potential]
Rebuilding glibc is always a little risky (toolchain bugs and
incompatibilities between the old and new versions can be surprising). But the
autopkgtests and some manual general testing can help here.

For this specific change, there is a potential risk that the new memcpy
implementation could be used on a system where it is not in fact the
fastest. We should run the test case not only on the systems where it is
expected to help, but other systems such as the RPi4 and the launchpad
build farm to ensure performance is not regressed there.

[Bug 1956169] Re: Cannot install libvirt-dev on Ubuntu 20.04 / focal Dependency conflict - needs repackage

2022-03-06 Thread James Cuzella
Hmm... yes it seems like universe & multiverse pockets are enabled on
this system for main and focal-security. However, it does have debug
packages enabled for focal-updates via ddebs.list:

$ grep -ri '^deb.*ubuntu\.com' /etc/apt/sources.list* | sort | uniq

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ddebs.list:deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com focal main
restricted universe multiverse
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ddebs.list:deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com

/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal multiverse
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal universe
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates

/etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security

/etc/apt/sources.list:deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
focal-updates main
/etc/apt/sources.list:deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
focal-security main restricted universe multiverse

I guess that I didn't realize the libvirt-dev package was released in a
separate pocket / channel than the other libvirt packages. I've enabled
both universe & multiverse for the focal-updates pocket too. Now it's
showing up under apt-cache policy:

$ apt-cache policy libvirt-dev

WIP: Bug 1402822 - Update unit tests for multiple dictionaries

For the most part these are simple updates to account for multiple
dictionaries and the fact that SetDictionaries is async whereas
SetDictionary was sync.

Fixing test_async_UpdateCurrentDictionary was more involved because
there were flaws in the existing test and it is more difficult to
harmonize the UpdateCurrentDictionary callback with the changes to make
SetDictionaries async.

[Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
could you install
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/2.24.32-4ubuntu4/+build/18229140/+files/libgail18-dbgsym_2.24.32-4ubuntu4_amd64.ddeb
and get another backtrace?

you can also try downgrading gtk3 then, the backtrace has more details
but the bug still doesn't really make sense

the fact that already started program keep working is expected since the
library is loaded from disk on start and a change on disk isn't going to
replace it until the program exit and starts again

[Bug 1963835] Re: Message: "Error! Arguments and are not specified." when upgrading

2022-03-06 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1963835/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2022-03-06 Thread Mike Chelen
This is still occurring on 20.04 with:
AMD® Radeon rx 5600 xt
Dell U3219Q
Connected by DisplayPort

#50 describes reproduction steps
#63 describes workaround

Despite workaround, the bug *still exists* in 20.04 with single monitor
and there do not seem to be any open bugs tracking this issue.

I believe in OpenSSL 3.0 that SSL_OP_LEGACY_SERVER_CONNECT is now
disabled by default, as opposed to the version used in earlier Ubuntu
versions (tested to work fine with 20.04 and 21.10).

I can't tell what should be done here. Is there something I can do to
allow enable "SSL_OP_LEGACY_SERVER_CONNECT" for this connection ? Can
something be done in the python module, or does this require a change in
or parameter or config to be set in OpenSSL ?

[Bug 1962807] Re: segfault in libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 with several programs

2022-03-06 Thread dhdur...@verizon.net
I just noticed something this morning that may or may not be relevant.
I normally have vlc running on my system and it was on and running at
and after the point where I updated to the new release. When testing
with a new user I closed down everything on my usual user. I now find
that vlc hits the same segfault when I attempt to open it.

So it appears that if a program was open and running before the update
was applied it continued to do so, but once closed it could encounter
the same segfault when it attempts to start.

[Bug 1963719] Re: Sync pagekite 1.5.2.200603-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2022-03-06 Thread François Marier
With respect to the importance of this bug, I would say that it's rather
important and not wishlist. This bug doesn't make the package completely
unusable in jammy (the client still works), but if you wanted to run a
pagekite server on jammy, you can't.

In Debian terms, this would be an RC bug.

[Bug 1904270] Re: ubiquity does not support existing LUKS encrypted partitions

[Bug 1963830] [NEW] No time/clock on panel (ayatana indicators)

2022-03-06 Thread Waruun
Public bug reported:

The clock/time indicator isn't shown on the panel (ayatana indicators)
on Ubuntu Mate 21.10, or Jammy Jellyfish (22.04), however if I click
where it is supposed to be, I'll still see a calendar. If I co into the
indicator settings in the control panel, and choose to show seconds,
it'll show the time, but with a bunch of random numbers after the
minutes. If I turn it off again, the time disappears. (img attached)

[Bug 1933890] Re: No wacom tablet or stylus discovered, Fujitsu T935

2022-03-06 Thread Rob Frohne
I submitted a pull request to the libwacom github repo. Here is the
URL. https://github.com/linuxwacom/libwacom/pull/481

If someone wants to fix it put the file data/isdv4-10g.tablet in
/usr/share/libwacom/. It is here:
https://github.com/linuxwacom/libwacom/pull/481/commits/c7ed96462403b17cf38fba8e31b6436406de6da8

Thanks,
Rob

2022-03-06 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
I'm more than willing to bet this is a Python 3.10 compatibility issue,
which means it's 100% upstream.

Looks like it was fixed
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/pitivi/-/issues/2571), but no release.

[Bug 1963818] Re: Upgrading to 22.04 on wayland session closes session

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1963818/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
