[Bug 2058836] [NEW] When gtkhash v1.2 finds a matching has, it doesn't positively identify the matching hashes.

When gtkhash v1.2 finds a matching has, it doesn't positively identify
the matching hashes (see top screenshot). Typically, when gtkhash shows

[Bug 2057982] Re: [SRU] Is a ca-certificates dependency missing?

This is not a real regression. The autopkgtest cloud was running older
package versions that do miss fixes for the autopkgtest suite. Therefore
the failure is to be expected.

[Bug 2058832] [NEW] Disabling Tap and Drag in dconf has no effect

2024-03-23 Thread Enaiel Theone
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 22.04, disabling Tap and Drag in dconf has no effect. The
setting is changed in dconf, but the change is not propagated to
libinput which is used by wayland.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Set tap-and-drag to false using dconf

$ dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/peripherals/touchpad/tap-and-drag false

2. Verify that tap-and-drag has been set to false in dconf

$ dconf read /org/gnome/desktop/peripherals/touchpad/tap-and-drag
false

3. Verify that tap-and-drag has not been disabled in libinput

$ sudo libinput list-devices
Device:   SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
Kernel:   /dev/input/event5
Group:8
Seat: seat0, default
Size: 104x68mm
Capabilities: pointer gesture
Tap-to-click: disabled
Tap-and-drag: enabled
Tap drag lock:disabled
Left-handed:  disabled
Nat.scrolling:disabled
Middle emulation: disabled
Calibration:  n/a
Scroll methods:   *two-finger edge
Click methods:*button-areas clickfinger
Disable-w-typing: enabled
Accel profiles:   flat *adaptive
Rotation: n/a

This one bug has forced me to switch back to Windows as using Gimp with
this feature turned on causes streaks across the image.

[Bug 2038694] Re: Now that exfat filesystem is in the kernel, allow using it for storing isos loopback booting and storing the persistence file

2024-03-23 Thread Adrian Feliks
@Adam Vodopjan (grozzly)

You're absolutely right. Currently, booting from exFAT doesn't work because
there's no module for it, neither built-in nor located in
early3/usr/lib/modules/6.8.0-11-generic/kernel/fs.
The command `manual_add_modules exfat` (patch @Glenn Washburn) adds exfat
module to the initrd during livecd creation.

See: https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/tree/hooks/casper

Ubuntu 24.04 is coming soon...

Basically the ask is to ship this file:

I believe if we do it should be shipped in procps; or possibly, gamemode

Public bug reported:

The laptop audio works fine, but when I plug a headphone it seems that
there is no audio. If I turn on overamplification it is possible to hear
some low volume sound. So, the audio is actually there, it is just
extremely low.

I tried multiple things that I found only but none seems to work.

[Bug 2038694] Re: Now that exfat filesystem is in the kernel, allow using it for storing isos loopback booting and storing the persistence file

2024-03-23 Thread Adam Vodopjan
@Adrian Feliks (mexit)

How is it supposed to work with just that? Looking into initrd of 24.04
daily unpacked with unmkinitramfs. According to
main/lib/modules/6.8.0-11-generic/modules.builtin, exfat is not a
builtin module. And there is no exfat in
early3/usr/lib/modules/6.8.0-11-generic/kernel/fs

Re: [Bug 2058634] Re: scribus-doc puts docs in wrong place

2024-03-23 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
I see what's happening there... That's due to snap's containerization
efforts, which blocks loading of files from /usr/share/scribus. If you use
any other non-snap browser it should just work.

I don't use snaps, no, so I'm having no good ideas on how to fix that. And
ISTR I had a good reason to have the symlinks that way instead of
installing in usr/share/doc amd symlinking on usr/share/scribus, but i
could always try again, as that's likely the easier workaround to those
blocks.

[Bug 2058826] [NEW] f2fs should be recognized by casper as a supported fs

2024-03-23 Thread Adam Vodopjan
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu iso images bundle the f2fs driver in initrd since 20.04, but
casper does not recognize f2fs as a supported fs even in 24.04. Hence,
the images cant loop-boot from f2fs partitions.

A 2-lines change is all that's required since 20.04 (casper-helpers
since 22.04, previously this code was in lupin-helpers)

[Bug 2058824] [NEW] nvidia-driver-545 (and version 550) randomly hangs with compositing manager on VT change

2024-03-23 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

This issue doesn't happen with Nnvidia version 525 or 535 but it happens
with 545 and 550.

Steps to reproduce:

- Run window manager or desktop environment without compositor manager.
For example XFCE with Settings – Window Manager Tweaks – Compositor and
disable Enable display compositing. (The problem is visible with this
compositor, too, but getting out of hang with this one is harder.)

- The problem seems to be some kind of race condition because in "only"
happens about 70% of the time for me. I'm using package "linux-tools-
lowlatency-hwe-22.04" to get kernel with PREEMPT_DYNAMIC which may
trigger the race condition easier.

- Run picom as follows to make sure it has no config of any kind that
might avoid the problem:

picom --config /dev/null --show-all-xerrors --log-level=TRACE &
sleep 20; killall picom

  Note that this will emit a lot of log messages and picom will be
killed after 20 seconds (resulting in no compositor X session which
should be usable if not pretty).

- Switch to different virtual terminals with CTRL+ALT+F1, CTRL+ALT+F2,
..., CTRL+ALT+F7 and wait for display to refresh on each terminal.

- Assuming your initial virtual terminal was VT 7 as usual for GUI
desktop, you should now see fully black screen with your usual mouse
cursor only. Wait for the sleep timer above (20 seconds) to go off and
kill picom to restore your screen. If you had compositing enabled in
XFCE Window manager, you would be seeing the same issue but getting out
of this issue is much harder because XFCE window manager implements the
compositing internally and having compositing hang you would have to
kill your window manager to get rid of it!

I'm assuming this also happens with other software, too, that simply
happens to trigger the racy codepath during VT switch but the above is
the best way to reproduce the issue at will. The problem happens pretty
often rapidly changing to VT 1 and back to VT 7, too. It may be faster
way to reproduce the problem.

When picom hangs, the last line it outputs to stderr is as follows:

[ 2024-03-23 22:24:17.069 draw_callback_impl TRACE ] Render start, frame
416

Normally this should be followed by

[ 2024-03-23 22:24:17.069 draw_callback_impl TRACE ] Render end

on the same millisecond or one later but when NVidia driver hangs on VT
switch, this never happens.

As I wrote above, this bug doesn't occur with Nvidia driver version 535
so the bug has been introduced between version 535 and 545. I cannot
debug this further because I don't have the source code.

Well, Firefox (as a snap), for some reason or another, can't access the
files.

/usr/share/doc/scribus/en$ xdg-open index.html
Yields this error page in Firefox:

*File not foundFirefox can’t find the file at
/usr/share/doc/scribus/en/index.html.Check the file name for
capitalisation or other typing errors.Check to see if the file was
moved, renamed or deleted.*

/usr/share/scribus/doc/en$ xdg-open index.html
Yields this error page in Firefox:

*File not foundFirefox can’t find the file at
/usr/share/scribus/doc/en/index.html.Check the file name for
capitalisation or other typing errors.Check to see if the file was
moved, renamed or deleted.*
Is it possible that the snap system does not like the symlink approach?

Do you have Firefox installed as a snap? Do you have scribus-doc installed?
That way, you should be able to experience this problem, too.

BW,

Ian

[Bug 2056706] Re: System unstable, kernel ring buffer flooded with "BUG: Bad page state in process swapper/0"

2024-03-23 Thread Eugene San
Update:
Since release of 6.8.0-20.20 real machine (XPS13) seems to be working fine.
VMs are still hanging.

Short testing showed that the issue is caused by RAM starvation.
Booting LiveCD or Desktop should consume ~1.2GB but under 6.8, it starts with
~2GB usage and keeps going up.
Maybe it is related to filesystem subsystem while using ISO9660/OverlayFS. Once
the system hangs it keeps reading from optical device.

The issue with LiveCD install can be mitigated by increasing VM's memory
to at least 3GB or more.

P.S.
The issue might have been fixed with 6.8.0-20.20 but we'll have to wait and see
since ISOs with this kernel are still not available.

[Bug 2058634] Re: scribus-doc puts docs in wrong place

2024-03-23 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
You are right that scribus needs them in what is the "wrong" location
for the Debian policy, but I remember doing things so that it would work
for both.

The package ships everything in /usr/share/scribus/doc and then sets up
symlinks from e.g. /usr/share/doc/scribus/de to ../../scribus/doc/de
(i.e. /usr/share/scribus/doc/de).

What is not working for you?

[Bug 2058821] [NEW] python3.11-venv is missing on 24.04

2024-03-23 Thread Jakub Kuczys
Public bug reported:

When I installed `python3.11` package on Ubuntu 24.04 (I tried the official
`ubuntu:24.04` Docker image for ease of reproducibility) and tried running
`python3.11 -m venv /tmp/test`, I got the following error message:
```
The virtual environment was not created successfully because ensurepip is not
available.  On Debian/Ubuntu systems, you need to install the python3-venv
package using the following command.
apt install python3.11-venv
You may need to use sudo with that command.  After installing the python3-venv
package, recreate your virtual environment.
Failing command: /tmp/test/bin/python3.11
```

This would be fine (and is expected on Debian-based systems) but I then tried
running the `apt install python3.11-venv` command and have learned that there
is no such package available in the 24.04 repositories:
```
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Package python3.11-venv is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package 'python3.11-venv' has no installation candidate
```

[Bug 2058816] [NEW] Crash when editing an application whose icon was deleted

2024-03-23 Thread DavidBriscoe
Public bug reported:

Setting and externally deleting an icon causes alacarte to crash when
editing that application.

Edit Applications > Gvim
Set /mnt/shared/icon-gvim.png as the icon
In Terminal, mv /mnt/shared/icon-gvim.png /mnt/shared/icons/icon-gvim.png
Accessories > Gvim > Properties

Actual:
Crash. Alacarte doesn't close, but the preferences window never opens and I get
a "alacarte has crashed" popup window. Subsequent attempts to edit Properties
of Gvim do nothing. Clicking Properties for other applications still works.

Expected:
Icon is automatically set to empty, loaded with a ? placeholder, or I get an
error message with an option to clear the set icon.

Thanks for making a great gui for editing applications! It's nice to have a
simple streamlined editor for customization.

[Bug 2058785] Re: Blank screen after login on 2nd reboot after install or upgrade. 24.04

2024-03-23 Thread Doug Smythies
After a fresh install (from the 2024.03.23 ISO in this case) everything
is fine if I don't change the screen resolution from the default of
1014X768. Issues start once I change the display to 1680X1050, but seems
to recover after an idle time screen blank/lock cycle. It seems I get
into trouble because I normally operate with "Blank Screen Delay" set to
never.

Workaround: Set "Blank Screen Delay" to 1 minute and screen lock off;
After re-boot wait for the 1 minute with a messed up screen; Move the
mouse or type a key, then the screen is fine.

[Bug 2007194] Re: gnome-screenshot sometimes hangs leaving a transparent white square over the screen

2024-03-23 Thread James Craig Burley
To repro: make sure you select the Video (not Photo) option. Then click
the (now-red-inner-circled) Record button.

The white selection/area pane will remain, with the rest of the screen
dimmed, until you stop the recording.

How do you stop it? Look for a small control, with a white-on-red black
square to the right of a counting-up timer for the video, and click that
little square.

So it's not so much a "bug" as a surprising, if not almost-hidden
(especially for those of us with kinda-largish monitors), behavior.

(This took me almost 10 minutes to figure out!!)

[Bug 1971434] Re: Display powersave only blanks, but does not turn off

2024-03-23 Thread Michał Fita
This is Gnome bug I presume that manifests mostly on Ubuntu (clash with
Canonical's tweaks) with some HDMI monitors (mostly Lenovo). The same
monitors work as intended under Windows.

My bet is they send some message back to the computer when they change
power state after requested to go to full power save. That in exchange
wakes up the system, which ten keeps the screen blank, but backlight
don't go off; they don't go off on both screens. If I turn off my Lenovo
with switch, the laptop screen finally turns off after some time, but
not always.

What Classification and Product should I report session restore bugs in?
I'd rather not use "I don't know" if there's something more accurate

[Bug 2043299] Re: Linux 6.5 breaks Novation Components web MIDI application

As mentioned above, this turns out to have been a Chrome/Chromium bug
exposed by the new kernel. It has been fixed in Chrome 123, which is now
the stable release. This issue can be closed.

[Bug 2020921] Re: .CONF files default to opening in LibreOffice rather than Mousepad when running Thunar as root

2024-03-23 Thread Sean Davis
Thanks for reporting this issue. Unfortunately, there isn't anything
that can be done about this specific bug. When you run an application as
root, you lose some environment variables. In particular, the XDG_
variables that are loaded in the user session are not carried to the
root session.

XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share/xubuntu:/usr/share/xfce4:/usr/local/share:/usr/share:/var/lib/snapd/desktop:/usr/share

Our default application associations exist in
/usr/share/xubuntu/applications/defaults.list. Without those defaults,
any application registered for text/plain can open it by default. I
think they're evaluated alphabetically.

[Bug 2040059] Re: [SRU] Sage crashes on start due to a missmatched dependency

2024-03-23 Thread Sudip Mukherjee
My apologies. I had the debdiff ready and also verified from a PPA that
the autopkgtest now works.

Autopkgtest results at:
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-mantic-sudipmuk-sagemath-1/
PPA at: https://launchpad.net/~sudipmuk/+archive/ubuntu/sagemath-1/

I am confused with your comment about ipywidgets, thats noble-proposed,
and this is for Mantic.

Debdiff attached.

[Bug 2058799] [NEW] a2jmidid doesn't handle midi interfaces with two or more identical port names correctly and fails to expose them

2024-03-23 Thread Reinaert Albrecht
Public bug reported:

This issue has been solved in 2019 in a2jmidid:
https://github.com/jackaudio/a2jmidid/pull/5

It's been described in various places:
https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=24822

Could you please include this in the packages? It basically boils down to this
four letter change in port.c:
119c119
<   "%s [%d] (%s): [%d] %s",
---
>   "%s [%d] (%s): %s",

Kind regards,
