[Bug 2060266] [NEW] gnome-session no longer supports --builtin

2024-04-05 Thread Haw Loeung
Public bug reported:

Hi,

`gnome-session.service` has the following:

| [Service]
| ExecStart=/bin/sh -exc '[ "$DESKTOP_SESSION" != "gnome-classic" ] || export |
GNOME_SHELL_SESSION_MODE=classic; \
| export GNOME_SESSION_XDG_SESSION_PATH=${XDG_SESSION_PATH}; \
| [ "$DESKTOP_SESSION" = gnome-flashback-metacity ] && \
| exec gnome-session --builtin --session=$DESKTOP_SESSION
--disable-acceleration-check || \
| exec gnome-session --builtin --session=$DESKTOP_SESSION'

Unfortunately, the latest `gnome-session` no longer supports
`--builtin`. This causes login failures, in particular for me, using
Unity, I get logged back out from the unity greeter.

| $ apt-cache policy gnome-session-bin
| gnome-session-bin:

| $ gnome-session --builtin
|
| ** (gnome-session-binary:5602): WARNING **: 15:35:22.156: Unknown option
--builtin

Removing `--builtin` from `/usr/lib/systemd/user/gnome-session.service`
let's me log in.

With that though, I was not able to input text in chromium (installed
via the snap).

Downgrading `gnome-session-bin`, `gnome-session-common`, and `unity-

Public bug reported:

With glibc 2.39-0ubuntu7 and later, fastqtl has failed its autopkgtests
on armhf:

This error is reproducible.

It may be a regression introduced by some other package than glibc, but
this glibc includes arm changes so filing here initially just in case.

rootfs.

Steps:

1. Launch `daily-ubuntu-minimal-2004-focal-v20240405` from project
`ubuntu-os-cloud-devel` in GCE

```
gcloud compute instances create $(petname) --zone=europe-west1-d
--image=daily-ubuntu-minimal-2004-focal-v20240405
--image-project=ubuntu-os-cloud-devel
[Bug 2060260] [NEW] New upstream microrelease .NET 7.0.18 and SDK 7.0.118
2024-04-05 Thread Dominik Viererbe
Public bug reported:
[Impact]
 * This correspond to an upcoming upstream microrelease (Microsoft Patch
Tuesday microrelease).
 * It is beneficial for our latest LTS users to have access to the
latest .NET stack.
 * This update is bundled with minor fixes:
   - updates Canonical support information
   - fixes/adds version parsing edge cases
[Test Case]
 * The package should build successfully in mantic-proposed and jammy-
proposed.
 * The packages should be installable on mantic and jammy
   on amd64 and arm64 architectures.
 * Autopackage tests should pass.
 * The usual manual tests that have been seen in the previous microreleases
   LP: #2057982, #2011809, #2024893, #2009855, #2003691, #2011675 (see Test
Case section there).
   Note: The need for manual testing is largely reduced since the last SRU,
 because the autopkgtests improvements far exceeds the coverage
 provided by the mentioned manual test plans.
[Regression Potential]
 * Upstream tests are usually satisfactory, but there is always a risk
of something breaking.
[Other]
* dotnet7 was removed from the current development release.
  See LP: #2044513 for details.
* 7.0.18 is the version number of the .NET Runtime and 7.0.118 is the version
  number of the .NET SDK. The package version only refers to the SDK version
  number.
* We are only building the 7.0.1xx feature band, because this is the only
  feature band that allows to be build from source. See explanation of feature
  bands:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/releases-and-support#feature-bands-sdk-only
* Overview of how dotnet is versioned: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-
[Bug 2059303] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla
2024-04-05 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From steffen.ei...@ibm.com 2024-04-05 04:40 EDT---
(In reply to comment #15)
> Builds finally completed:
> noble: https://launchpad.net/~fheimes/+archive/ubuntu/lp2059303
Hi Frank
Thank you for the supply of packages.
I currently have no noble (24.04) system by hand. I will test noble as
soon as I have access.
For  mantic, jammy, focal, it seems that a new s390-tools-signed package
is missing in the PPA (it is there in the noble PPA). Tested only on
focal.
Example for focal:
after adding the ppa + update.
> apt upgrade s390-tools
[...]
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
s390-tools : Depends: s390-tools-signed (= 2.12.0-0ubuntu3.8) but
2.12.0-0ubuntu3.7 is to be installed
Thank you in advance for a fix/solution.
And also, sorry for the Rust-backport inconvenience.
BTW, I released a new s390-tools version on Wednesday
(https://github.com/ibm-s390-linux/s390-tools/releases/tag/v2.32.0) with the
armonk problem resolved.
Steffen
[Bug 2060259] [NEW] New upstream microrelease .NET 6.0.29 and SDK 6.0.129
2024-04-05 Thread Dominik Viererbe
Public bug reported:
[Impact]
 * This correspond to an upcoming upstream microrelease (Microsoft Patch
Tuesday microrelease).
 * It is beneficial for our latest LTS users to have access to the
latest .NET stack.
 * This update is bundled with minor fixes:
   - updates Canonical support information
   - fixes/adds version parsing edge cases
[Test Case]
 * The package should build successfully in mantic-proposed and jammy-
proposed.
 * The packages should be installable on mantic and jammy
   on amd64 and arm64 architectures.
 * Autopackage tests should pass.
 * The usual manual tests that have been seen in the previous microreleases
   LP: #2057699, #1996499, #1983380, #2011807 (see Test Case section there).
   Note: The need for manual testing is largely reduced since the last SRU,
 because the autopkgtests improvements far exceeds the coverage
 provided by the mentioned manual test plans.
[Regression Potential]
 * Upstream tests are usually satisfactory, but there is always a risk
of something breaking.
[Other]
* dotnet6 was removed from the current development release.
  See LP: #2044511 for details.
* 6.0.29 is the version number of the .NET Runtime and 6.0.129 is the version
  number of the .NET SDK. The package version only refers to the SDK version
  number.
* We are only building the 6.0.1xx feature band, because this is the only
  feature band that allows to be build from source. See explanation of feature
  bands:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/releases-and-support#feature-bands-sdk-only
* Overview of how dotnet is versioned: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-
us/dotnet/core/versions/
[Bug 2058606] Re: Sync rocm-hipamd 5.7.1-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
2024-04-05 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Right now, version 5.7.1-3 fails to build in Noble because of some
uninstallability issues:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libobjc-13-dev : Depends: gcc-13-base (= 13.2.0-13ubuntu1) but
13.2.0-17ubuntu2 is to be installed
  Depends: libgcc-13-dev (= 13.2.0-13ubuntu1) but
13.2.0-17ubuntu2 is to be installed
This is happening because of the ongoing transitions. Since the package
build would fail in the Ubuntu archive, I'm holding this sync until
those things get sorted out.
[Bug 2060257] [NEW] Please sync mksh 59c-37 from Debian sid (main)
2024-04-05 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:
This change is not a feature change. It deals with adding entries in
/usr/bin/ to /etc/shells to match the entries in /bin because graphical
privilege escalation tools can otherwise get the wrong path due to
usrmerge and deny operation. It additionally enables more executables
built as position-independent code (only on architectures where I tested
this).
I’ve uploaded that to Debian and tested it on my PPA as well (modulo
armhf, which I believe is waiting for the debugedit rebuilt against
libelf1t64 to leave proposed and enter a pocket which the Launchpad
buildds actually use).
d/changelog for the delta:
mksh (59c-37) unstable; urgency=medium
  * Limit musl static-PIE to architectures it is known to work
(see #1068350 and even #1068302)
 -- Thorsten Glaser   Fri, 05 Apr 2024 02:33:34 +0200
mksh (59c-36) unstable; urgency=low
  * Fix two typos in musl static-pie support check, improve diagnostics
 -- Thorsten Glaser   Wed, 03 Apr 2024 12:25:23 +0200
mksh (59c-35) unstable; urgency=low
  * Update from CVS HEAD:
- improvements to mbsd{cc,int}.h, mostly portability
- put a message behind #ifdef DEBUG
- improved fallback for missing rlim_t
- FAQ update
- avoid uint8_t in printf.c favouring “unsigned char” explicitly
  * Use munged specs file for #1050429 workaround, drop gcc-12 B-D
  * Install /usr/bin-based (nōn-canonical) pathnames into /etc/shells
on systems with a broken filesystem layout (Closes: #1063905)
  * loong64 musl became available as well
 -- Thorsten Glaser   Tue, 02 Apr 2024 16:32:00 +0200
I believe the changes to the upstream portion of the package in -35 to be
unproblematic, they mostly deal with things like the OpenWatcom compiler or
better C++ support in a supporting library (mksh does not use C++).
I’m just a Debian Developer, so this needs sponsoring.
[Bug 2059952] Re: pro sometimes runs before cloud-config.service
2024-04-05 Thread Andreas Hasenack
** Description changed:
  [ Impact ]
  Currently, the Pro client support a daemon named ubuntu-advantage.service that
  performs two actions:
  * Actively look for Pro licenses on Azure and GCP images to perform an
auto-attach
  * Retry auto-attach on Pro images if that command fails on boot
  Therefore, this daemon is only being activated on generic Azure and GCP
  images and all Pro cloud images.
  This daemon was originally setup to run after the cloud-config.service.
However,
  due to a race condition, this is no longer happening. Right now, we manually
  check in the daemon code to see if the cloud-config service has finished.
  Unfortunately, this new logic now breaks the current Pro setup through
  cloud-init userdata in both GCP and Azure Pro cloud images. That is
  because our daemon is now running before cloud-init has even started
  running. This means that the daemon will perform the attach and not
  cloud-init itself. This will be clearer, in the following example:
  Let's imagine this situation where a user is launching a Pro GCP image:
  1) User provides the following cloud-init userdata to the cloud image
  before booting it:
  #cloud-config
  ubuntu_advantage:
    enable: []
  This means that the user wants no services to be enabled, but still want
  to attach to the Pro license.
- 2) Our daemon starts running before cloud-init has even started
+ 2) Our daemon starts running before cloud-config has even started
  3) Our daemon see the cloud-config.service as inactive and proceeds normally
  4) Our daemon identifies that the user is running on a GCP instance and there
is a valid Pro license for it.
  5) Due to that, our daemon auto-attach the machine completely ignoring the
cloud-init directives.
  Therefore, to fix that issue we need to guarantee that we will only
  execute the daemon, if and only if, cloud-init has already started. That
  is because, on this situation, the cloud-config.service will already
  perform the attach operation following the user directives. When the
  daemon starts running, it will see that the image is already attached
  and do nothing.
  Finally, given this scenario, this bug is only affecting GCP/Azure Pro
  images, as these are the only ones that will be able to reach the flow
  described here.
  [Discussion]
  To address that issue, we are now also checking if the cloud-init service
  has already started if we detect that cloud-config service is inactive. If it
isn't, the daemon will sleep for an specific amount of time before trying again.
  [ Test Plan ]
  Since this is a first boot issue, we will need to create a custom image with
the package in proposed. Then, we need to guarantee that Pro configuration
delivered
  through cloud-init is being honored when we launch the image.
  Additionally, it is worth noting that we cannot reproduce this issue on
  a VM easily. That is because, we would need "mock" the VM to pass as one
  of the affected clouds and also add a valid Pro license to it.
  However, CPC is already aware of this issue and will help us creating
  the test plan here.
  [ Where problems could occur ]
  We are updating the cloud-init wait logic on the daemon. This could
potentially make our daemon to not start. However, since we are just now
waiting on the base cloud-init.service to start and we have already tested this
solution in a custom image, we believe this is a low risk for this fix.
  [ Original Description ]
  We have recently updated the Pro to not strictly run after
cloud-config.service. If cloud-config.service has not been started when pro
runs, it can complete before cloud-config.service begins and thus the
user-specificed pro configuration will be ignored since the instance is already
attached.
  When cloud-config.service has yet to run, ubuntu-advantage.service
  should wait until it's finished before running.
** Description changed:
[Bug 2060246] [NEW] Packaged VisualVM version (2.1.6) in Noble beta is incompatible with default java version (21)
2024-04-05 Thread Kevin Milner
Public bug reported:
Installing VisualVM via the apt on noble beta automatically installs
java 21, but the packaged version of VisualVM (2.1.6) only supports Java
20 and below. When you try to launch it, you get a pop up message
stating:
"You are running VisualVM using an unsupported Java version: 21.
Please use JDK 8 to JDK20 to run VisualVM. For more information about
requirements and setup visit https://visualvm.github.io.;
From that website, I see that version 2.1.7 is required for Java 21
support (and a newer 2.1.8 release adds Java 22 support).
[Bug 2060291] Re: Horizonral line artifact/ghosting when scaling windows to a certain width
2024-04-05 Thread Abram Wiebe
Some similar issues involve a stripe of corrupted graphics memory along
the entire width of the framebuffer.  THIS IS NOT THAT ISSUE.  It's more
like a bunch of 1px lines are spilling an image from somewhere else on
the screen.  In particular one of the screenshots shows the taskbar
spilling on top of the desktop background by way of a nautilus window.
[Bug 2052929]
2024-04-05 Thread Jakub-gcc
I guess we should go with the above patch after fixing formatting, but it isn't
enough,
printf_fphex.c has similar code.
Even in glibc which doesn't support printing _Float128 nor any other type which
would require similar alignment, the hooks only register a function to fill in
some mem and allows specification of size, but can't specify alignment.
