I run Hardy Heron alpha 3 on a Toshiba portege m100.

Toshset doesn't seem to work, I get the following error msg:

[Bug 668634] Re: Hot HDD on Idle

2010-11-02 Thread Abdusamed Ahmed
I ran the lm-profiler. Once after doing work and once after clean boot.
Below is the instance of clean boot which ended up with the same result.
'Gvfs-metadata' and 'jdb2/sda5-8' kept on popping up very frequently.

The problem is however, it may seem from the output that the system much
have been very quiet, it wasn't. The HDD kept on spinning without
showing any indication of slowing down for a break. If I forced them to
sleep using the hdparm -Y command, they would instantly start spinning
up without even stoping for a second with a 'flush 8.0' or 'flush 0.8'
message showing in the terminal with lm-profiler command running.

Though I didn't want to but I decided to disable all the services it
asked as 'standard recommendation' which I wanted to consult here before
doing because I wanted to maximize complete utilization of laptop-mode-
tools customization. Like I wanted to add this to 'configuration-file-
control.conf' make my system kinda a bit more 'professional' so nothing
is lost instead of simply disabling it!

For the side note, I created a 2 GB swap file after installing Ubuntu, I
don't have a dedicated swap partition. I have 4 GIGS of ram too.

What should I do now? If you see my setting in my customized laptop-
mode.conf, I haved edited to run laptop-mode-tools on AC also.

[Bug 668970] [NEW] laptop-mode-tools harddrive spinning up continously while idling

2010-10-30 Thread Abdusamed Ahmed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: laptop-mode-tools

I have laptop mode tools to be on all the time, on ac and battery
because I want to lower the rate of increase load cycles.

The problem I'm facing is even after a clean reboot and left the
computer to idle, my hard drive will keep on spinning regardless of
what's happening! My cpu pretty much are at 1 percent. But the hard
drive are spinning all the time. If I force them to sleep, they stay in
that state for a while before they are fired up!

Yes..I have configuration-file-control.conf edited so that its enabled.
Its attached if you want to look at it. Think to note is that I only
changed the '0' to '1' because I assumed that the file already has the
necessarily setting which most user face.

The laptop-mode-tool is also attached along with configuration-file-
control.conf

Note, I have enabled all the conf.d. I only changed the 0 to 1 to enable
it, haven't went any further in the while with the fear of crashing my
system which won't be nice.

[Bug 657560] [NEW] Custom Framerate support

2010-10-10 Thread Abdusamed Ahmed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cheese

Right now, I can't use my webcam on Skype because the picture quality is
extremely bad. Buying a new webcam makes no sense because the same
webcam does have better quality if and only if I select to choose lower
framerate.

When ever I chat on skype with video, the picture is extremely black.
The issue became really annoying because I couldn't talk to people using
my notebook's builtin webcam. In Windows 7, there is a custom
application from the manufacture which allows to brighten up the picture
internally [not simple bright which whitens the picture] by selecting
'Night Mode' What this mode simply did which I found recently is that it
simply changes the amound of framerates broadcasted by the webcam to
computer. Default it's 30FPS which is smooth but in normal condition,
black or dark video but 10FPS brightens up the picture

Till now, I have only found guvideo which allowed to select different
rate but the problem is that it only allows those frame with the
application, not any other. Unlike cheese, which sets allows setting to
be used in different application like skype with frames, effects and all
that goody. What I'm asking is to implement a feature which allows
different frame rates setting to be used for webcam. If its not possible
or anything, can you please tell me how can I do change my framerates
from the start so that what skype sees is 10FPS which is a bright
picture instead of the usual 30FPS dark video. Like can I do it by
changing some config file or something else? I need it it, thank you.

Ubuntu 10.4.1 Lucid

So what your telling me is that to report the problem I am facing

supported that I wanted it to be. It's Chicony USB 2.0 Camera builtin in

yea.. mobile is correct. Facing the same problem. Not a useful app when
u need to see all the messages. Also, it shows different notification
when compared to facebook. Like, totally different. Users probably did
notice it. Check the latest messages on the browser and on gwibber, two
different things. Like facebook is able to filter out the useful
messages like it doesn't often show group messages nor the people who
who I've visited to recently. On the other hand, gwibber facebook seems
to displays only the latest message regardless from whom it is. Sorry, i
only use facebook, not twitter or anything. Hope it helps improving
