[Bug 1268217] Re: bumblebee-nvidia should remove nvidia-prime (conflicting packages)
I'm not familiar with bumblebee but I'm pretty sure nvidia-prime per se is not the problem here. All the heavy lifting is done by the gpu- manager binary in the ubuntu-driver-common package. If you give me an easy way to check if bumblebee is in use (e.g. checking the existence of a file, etc.), I'll make sure that the gpu-manager doesn't modify the system when this is the case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1268217 Title: bumblebee-nvidia should remove nvidia-prime (conflicting packages) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bumblebee/+bug/1268217/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Alistair: if the gpu-manager detected only one GPU, it means that the other one was probably powered down (or it hadn't been powered on yet?). [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages
Driver packages are not multi-arch. The 64 bit package provides both 64 bit and 32 bit libraries. The empty alternative is meant to avoid that, when nvidia is installed, users end up using nvidia's 64 bit libraries and mesa's 32 bit libraries. As for the NVIDIA Optimus case, when in power saving mode (which you can select from nvidia-settings), the alternatives will be set to the prime option, which will make sure that only Mesa's GL libraries for both 64 bit and 32 bit are used, provided that you have the 32 bit version of mesa installed. This is dealt with automatically, and users shouldn't select alternatives manually. For example, when /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf is selected, it will add the following: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa This is what happens when /usr/lib/nvidia-331/ld.so.conf and /usr/lib/nvidia-331/alt_ld.so.conf are in use: ldconfig -p | grep GL libQt5OpenGL.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5OpenGL.so.5 libGLU.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1 libGLESv2.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libGLESv2.so.2 libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/nvidia-331/libGL.so.1 libGL.so.1 (libc6) = /usr/lib32/nvidia-331/libGL.so.1 libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/nvidia-331/libGL.so libGL.so (libc6) = /usr/lib32/nvidia-331/libGL.so libEGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libEGL.so.1 This is what happens when /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf and /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/alt_ld.so.conf are in use: when 32 bit mesa is not installed: # ldconfig -p | grep GL libQt5OpenGL.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5OpenGL.so.5 libGLU.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1 libGLESv2.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libGLESv2.so.2 libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 libEGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libEGL.so.1 when 32 bit mesa is installed: # ldconfig -p | grep GL libQt5OpenGL.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5OpenGL.so.5 libGLU.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1 libGLESv2.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libGLESv2.so.2 libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 libGL.so.1 (libc6) = /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 libEGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libEGL.so.1 Maybe you're missing the libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 package? Both /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX/alt_ld.so.conf and /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX-prime/alt_ld.so.conf are empty in my system. If this is to avoid using 32-bit Mesa libraries, couldn't /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX/alt_ld.so.conf be pointing to the NVIDIA 32-bit libraries (like the bug reporter suggested)? It wouldn't change anything, since /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf already includes both the 32 bit and the 64 bit libraries. I tried to reproduce the problem using a Xubuntu 14.04 image and everything worked as expected: http://people.canonical.com/~amilone/xubuntu-output.log The main problem is that systems older than 14.04 might still have a /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf that was altered by older nvidia-prime releases. I thought lightdm would take care of the issue by removing such configuration file but I was wrong. This is the preinst script from lightdm in trusty: if dpkg-maintscript-helper supports mv_conffile; then dpkg-maintscript-helper mv_conffile \ /etc/lightdm.conf \ /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf \ 0.3.7-0ubuntu2 -- $@ fi I believe 0.3.7-0ubuntu2 should be updated to a more recent release such as 1.10.1-0ubuntu1~. This is something that we should deal with in the lightdm package though. [Bug 1310489] Re: xorg.conf overwritten by booting system
The error that you see in the log was caused by this code: if (is_disabled_in_cmdline()) { fprintf(log_handle, Disabled by kernel parameter \%s\\n, KERN_PARAM); goto end; } That simply parses /proc/cmdline. A few more things to try: 1) Maybe what you see is an old log. Try with: sudo rm /var/log/gpu-manager.log and reboot See if you can still see the same gpu-manager.log (with the same error about the nogpumanager parameter) 2) Try starting the upstart job: sudo rm /var/log/gpu-manager.log sudo start gpu-manager And see what /var/log/gpu-manager.log says 3) If 1) and 2) fail, try this: sudo rm /var/log/gpu-manager.log sudo gpu-manager --log /var/log/gpu-manager.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1310489 Title: xorg.conf overwritten by booting system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-drivers-common/+bug/1310489/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
