[Bug 884856] Re: gnome-keyring integration breaks some GPG functions

2014-10-06 Thread Alex Mauer
Even removing the xdg autostart file(s) didn’t work for me.

Gnome-keyring is still being started with 'gnome-keyring-daemon --start'
and is hijacking my gpg agent, thus breaking smartcard-based GPG and SSH
key usage.

It would also be best if the gpg-agent was started before dbus, so that
gvfsd (which is started by dbus) can use the gpg agent information.
(e.g. using the agent to access ssh URLs)

[Bug 1257706] Re: gpg-agent environment variables not correctly exported

2014-01-03 Thread Alex Mauer
I really like this, but I think it could be improved:
You don’t really need to pass --enable-ssh-support.

Instead, you can place the option in the gpg-agent.conf file (~/.gnupg
/gpg-agent.conf)

This way there is no need to worry about competing with ssh-agent.

So the only thing to really worry about then, is exporting the
appropriate environment variables, and it should be palatable to ssh-
agent users.

I think this change could be included in the official package too, with
no problem.

There is some inconsistency among the various *-agents though: To
disable the ssh-agent you edit /etc/X11/Xsession.options; to enable the
gpg-agent you edit ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf; to enable ssh support in gpg you
edit ~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf; and to disable ssh support in gnome-
keyring (the default) you have to hack around in /etc/xdg/autostart
/gnome-keyring-*.desktop. It’s a real mess.

[Bug 485293] Re: [needs-packaging] cnetworkmanager

Superseded in what way?

nm-tool will only display the status of NM.
nm-online will only report whether it’s online or not.

nmcli seems like it’s a start, but it won’t allow you to activate

will let you delete connections but not create them…wtf?

[Bug 75654] Re: deleted songs listed again when using library watch

2012-02-16 Thread Alex Mauer
One situation I can think of: A shared music library (for example,
shared between myself and my wife) on a network drive. I want to load
the whole thing, but then there are a few albums that I hate but my wife
likes (and vice versa). Since they’re not mine and one of us does want
them, I don’t want to delete the files…but I just want to remove them
from my library.

[Bug 920609] [NEW] likewise-open users with migrated home directory won’t decrypt automatically

2012-01-23 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

I am using likewise-open for authentication against Active Directory.

I log in as a domain user to create their home dir, and then run
'ecryptfs-migrate-home -u USER' to encrypt the user’s home directory.
This seems to work as expected.

However, when I try to log in, the user’s home directory is not
automatically decrypted. (and so of course I cannot log in to the GUI).
If I log in at the console and run 'ecryptfs-mount-private', it works
fine and I can then log in to the display manager.

[Bug 920570] [NEW] Cannot edit network connections

2012-01-23 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

I have set my system up to use likewise-open for authentication (joining

recognize this account as an admin.

However, this user cannot edit network connections (wired or wireless).
The Edit and Delete buttons are disabled.

[Bug 479226] Re: Cannot authenticate using PolicyKit dialogs with domain credentials, prompts for local user

2012-01-23 Thread Alex Mauer
I’m not sure that’s the entire problem/solution, actually.

I think this is saying that a likewise-open user, which has been added
to the local group 'admin' (and so should have admin privileges), does
not get admin privileges, or they are limited in some way.

Not that the AD 'domain admins' should have local admin rights (perhaps
they should, but that’s something different)

[Bug 831604] Re: likewise-open users don’t get ecryptfs home directory

2011-09-06 Thread Alex Mauer
I think it would need to encrypt the home directory at the same time it
creates it. I guess this is what the system adduser script does with its
--encrypted-home option.

I'm not sure the details of what adduser does, but I think it may just
do 'ecryptfs-migrate-home' after it makes the dir. The following links
are relevant:

[Bug 832303] [NEW] Option “Display incoming events in the notification area” is unclear

2011-08-23 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

The meaning of the option “Display incoming events in the notification
area” is not clear. At first glance it looks like it would do what it
says, which is control whether incoming events (messages) are shown in
the notification area. However, what it actually does is “automatically
open incoming events” (when off), or “hide incoming events in the
notification area instead of opening them in the chat window”. This
option’s description should be made more clear. See bug #652568 and its
duplicates for several cases where this problem has bitten people

[Bug 788367] [NEW] wired 802.1x never prompts for password

2011-05-25 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

I have set up a wired Ethernet connection to use 802.1x (EAP-PEAP-
MSCHAPv2) It works fine as long as I have entered and saved a password.
However, if I set it to “Ask for this password every time” it pops up a
dialog with no place to enter the password. A screenshot of the dialog
is attached.

Obviously, if the option “Ask for this password every time” is checked,
it should actually do so, as it does for wireless connections.

[Bug 762152] [NEW] menus broken with click-to-focus off

2011-04-15 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

If compiz is configured with “Click to Focus” off, then the menus are broken:
* Open a full-screen/maximized application, such as a browser
* Open a normally-windowed application such as a terminal or pidgin’s buddy list
* Attempt to access the menus of the windowed application
Moving the mouse outside of the window moves focus to the maximized
application. This means that it is nearly impossible to access menus of the
windowed application.

[Bug 762032] [NEW] alt+tab broken with click-to-focus off

2011-04-15 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

If compiz is configured with “Click to Focus” off, then alt+Tab is broken:
* Open a full-screen/maximized application, such as a browser
* Open a normally-windowed application such as a terminal or pidgin’s buddy list
* Move the focus to the browser (alt+tab)
* Keeping the mouse cursor where the windowed application will *not* be, press
alt+tab.

Focus will remain with the full-screen app, while it should move to the window
switched to by alt+tab.
If in the final step you put the mouse cursor where the windowed application
will be after alt+tab, focus changes to the windowed application as expected.

[Bug 635288] [NEW] gnome-keyring daemon sets SSH_AUTH_SOCK even when ssh support is ostensibly disabled

2010-09-10 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

http://live.gnome.org/GnomeKeyring/Ssh says that gnome-keyring-daemon
stealing the SSH_AUTH_SOCK from other programs can be disabled by
setting the gconf key /apps/gnome-keyring/daemon-components/ssh to
false. Unfortunately, this does not work, and while it may or may not
prevent it from acting as an ssh agent, it still steals the
SSH_AUTH_SOCK environment variable when it’s run.

If this key is set as the documentation describes, it should not do
this.

[Bug 200673] Re: adding memory breaks hibernate

2010-06-14 Thread Alex Mauer
As Jeremy Foshee requested, "If the issue remains, click on the current
status under the Status column and change the status back to 'New'.
Thanks.".

It is perhaps not a bug in Linux, but certainly a problem with Ubuntu:
If the system gains more memory, it should adjust the swap space
accordingly so that it can still hibernate.

The only other possible way to avoid this "system misconfiguration" is
to always create swap space of at least the maximum memory capacity of
the machine. If that's even possible for the system to detect...

[Bug 588879] [NEW] Requires passphrase and key ID when decrypting, even though this is not necessary

2010-06-02 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libcrypt-gpg-perl

When using the decrypt() method, Crypt::GPG will immediately return if
no key id or passphrase are supplied.

Neither of them are required to decrypt a file: unencrypted keys would
not have a passphrase, and gpg automatically finds the key ID to which
the file was encrypted.

[Bug 585022] [NEW] Cannot login if no local users exist

2010-05-24 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Since I use likewise-open for authentication, I thought it unnecessary
to keep the one local user on the machine.

Unfortunately, deleting this user prevents choosing “Other...” at the
login screen, and also prevents typing from switching to a user name
text entry box. This makes it impossible to login.

Obviously, gdm should allow logins even if there are no users in its
list.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: gdm 2.30.2-0ubuntu1

[Bug 574736] [NEW] totem-video-thumbnailer: Cannot produce thumbnails of certain videos

2010-05-03 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Certain files (namely, Matroska with vobsub subtitles) do not work
properly with totem-video-thumbnailer. Output from a manual run looks
like the following:

$ totem-video-thumbnailer Last\ Exile\ 13.mkv  le.jpg
** Message: Error: GStreamer encountered a general stream error.
matroska-demux.c(5241): gst_matroska_demux_loop ():
/GstPlayBin2:play/GstURIDecodeBin:uridecodebin0/GstDecodeBin2:decodebin20/GstMatroskaDemux:matroskademux0:
stream stopped, reason not-negotiated

But somehow, Nautilus sometimes manages to get a thumbnail for these
files... if I clear out ~/.thumbnails/fail and refresh in Nautilus it
will work, some of the time (maybe 1 time in 4)

[Bug 567582] [NEW] upgrade from 0.68 (hardy ) to 0.72 (lucid) doesn’t work

2010-04-20 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glpi

When trying to upgrade glpi from hardy to lucid, it tries to apply the
change in /usr/share/dbconfig-common/data/glpi/upgrade/mysql/0.72.1.
This includes the line, ALTER TABLE `glpi_tracking` ADD INDEX `date_mod`
(`date_mod`); Unfortunately, the column date_mod doesn’t yet exist in
version 0.68 from Hardy. So the upgrade fails. Presumably some more
database changes need to be included

[Bug 555887] [NEW] theme thumbnails show old layout

2010-04-05 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

The theme thumbnails in Gnome’s “Appearance Preferences” dialog still
show the old window layout, with the close button on the right of the
window title. This should be updated for themes which put these widgets
on the left.
