[Bug 1925019] Re: [MIR] oem-stella.cmit-rattata-meta

2021-11-04 Thread Alex Tu
** Description changed:

  [Background]

  Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM and
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/OEMMeta for details.

  [Impact]

   1. Upgrade path: Users will be upgrading from a package in the associated
OEM archive, not the Ubuntu archive.
   2. The background and impact of the situation for this change, and it's
impact.

  [Testing]

   1. Test that `ubuntu-drivers list-oem` lists the meta-package on the
relevant hardware
   2. Test that fully installing the meta-package (upgrading to the OEM archive
if relevant) works properly on the hardware
   3. Do an offline install. Boot the system. Run update-manager. Check that an
upgrade to the OEM package is offered and that it completes successfully and
the hardware works properly.

  [Regression Potential]

Most potential regressions will live in the package set that will be
installed via dependency of this package, which live in OEM archive
(outside of Ubuntu) and control by OEM team. OEM team and other
corresponding team need take responsibility of those dependency
  installed.

[When switching kernel flavour] Check that the new kernel flavour works
  on the target platform.

  [Availability]
This is a meta package for https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM
that means the package doesn't exist in Debian or Ubuntu archive yet.
The source code of the oem-stella.cmit-rattata-meta for focal:
  git clone -b cmit.rattata-focal-ubuntu
https://git.launchpad.net/~oem-solutions-engineers/pc-enablement/+git/oem-stella-projects-meta

  [Rationale]
We want to improve the hardware support for some HP platforms.

  [Security]
  No CVE/known security issue.

  [Quality assurance]
I have used ppa:oem-solutions-engineers/oem-projects-meta to check this
package on some HP platforms.
- oem-stella.cmit-rattata-meta will be upgraded to 20.04ubuntu1 or latest
version from OEM archive.
+ oem-stella.cmit-rattata-meta will be upgraded to 20.04ubuntu1 or the later
version from OEM archive.

  [Dependencies]
  It only depends on ubuntu-oem-keyring.

  [Standards compliance]
This package should have met all requirements of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM.

  [Maintenance]
Canonical OEM Enablement Team will take care of the maintenance.

  [Background information]
  Please check https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM for details.

Please use "oem-metapackage-mir-check" in lp:ubuntu-archive-tools to
verify this MIR against the reference package in the archive.

[Bug 1932548] Re: [Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201] Video conferences constantly freeze when I am on wireless [8086:a0f0]

2021-07-25 Thread Alex Tu
Hi Harrison,
Intel used to ask users using the latest proprietary firmware from upstream[1].
The proprietary firmware is a blackbox in opensource, so we are trying to
figure out the stable combination of kernel and related firmware.

So far there are 2 kernel flavors verified works in the environment of #27 in
Focal:
1. HWE kernel 5.11 + latest firmware iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-hr-b0-59.ucode (you can try
it from the linux-firmware from #21 which is doing SRU)
2. OEM kernel 5.13 + latest firmware -63 (you can try it from the
linux-firmware from #21 which is doing SRU)

We did not check the latest mainline kernel[2] + latest upstream
firmware [1] because so far the above 2 works well in our WIFI AX
environment.

We are wondering if any difference from the Steve's environment and
yours keep the Intel proprietary firmware crashing.

Could you please check if the above 2 kernel flavors plus the linux-firmware
doing SRUing work on your environment?
If it still failed, could you please share with us the dmesg and lspci (better
to get sosreport as well) and which WIFI 6 AP you are connecting to? So that we
can try reproducing your issue here :)

[Bug 1937415] Re: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 (iwlwifi) unstable with linux-firmware 1.199

2021-07-23 Thread Alex Tu
Just take a quick look on this issue.

from #2,
Jul 17 07:05:54 frode-threadripper kernel: [8.847048] iwlwifi :48:00.0:
loaded firmware version 59.601f3a66.0 cc-a0-59.ucode op_mode iwlmvm

from #1 dmesg,
[8.920438] iwlwifi :48:00.0: loaded firmware version 59.601f3a66.0
cc-a0-59.ucode op_mode iwlmvm

Looks both boot time (pass and failed) are using the same version of
iwlwifi firmware.

Compare to linux-firmware 1.199 and 1.198:
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/commit/?h=impish=19185cb1aeb67563dd18f00963f388ceaaa29fcd

looks the only firmware change related to iwlwifi is this one:
+- iwlwifi: add ty firmware from Core63-43

But there is a bluetooth firmware change for Intel AX200 which not sure will it
impact the wifi module on the same chip(after all, the firmware is blackbox
binary from IHV):
+- linux-firmware: Update firmware file for Intel Bluetooth AX200

Could you please add one of the 2 firmware manually to check if the
issue can be reproduced?

2021-07-16 Thread Alex Tu
Hi Steve,
Looks launchpad does not forward the updated comment through mail.
I updated step 3 because of OEM kernel 5.13 is only in focal-proposed now:

3. # to install OEM 5.13
# Please manually click on Pre-released updates(focal-proposed) in
`Software & Updates` UI first.
$ sudo apt-get install linux-image-oem-20.04c

[Bug 1932548] Re: [Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201] Video conferences constantly freeze when I am on wireless [8086:a0f0]

2021-07-14 Thread Alex Tu
@Zorro, We can not reproduce the AX201 wifi crashing issue with new
firmware #9 + kernel 5.10.0-1037-oem on the machine XPS 13 TGL in the
certification pool. But it happens to Steve's XPS 13 TGL.

Could you please check if this issue can be reproduced on other XPS 13
TGL + AX201 wifi[8086:a0f0] you have?

Just checked with xps13-9310-c5-202007-28045 in the certification pool.

[Bug 1932548] Re: [Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201] Video conferences constantly freeze when I am on wireless [8086:a0f0]

2021-07-14 Thread Alex Tu
progress update:
 - Vicamo is SRUing related firmware for both oem 5.10, hwe 5.11 and oem 5.13.
   - for OEM 5.10, HWE 5.11:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1934217
   - for OEM 5.13:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1933415

@Steve,
per #17, the firmware for OEM 5.10(LP: #1934217) not works for you.
Could you please have a try on OEM 5.13 + firmware from LP: #1933415?

The firmware crashing looks not happens to every machine using AX201.
 - Vicamo can not reproduce it with wifi6 AP during both SRU (LP: #1934217 and
LP: 1933415)
 - It passed with OEM 5.10 + firmware(LP: #1934217)
 - But it failed with OEM 5.10 + firmware(LP: #1934217) on Steve's machine (per
#17)

So, we are asking Intel for a suggested combination of Kernel and
firmware to make sure the stability of AX201.

Hi Steve, my comment #12 is saying the firmware in #9 works on the
machine in certification lab, so that HWE is doing a SRU [1] to land
that firmware.

But that firmware seems not to work for your case(refer to your comment
#10 which I missed when commenting #9).

Could you please also provide your dmesg again when for the issue after
you applied the firmware from #9 or from [1]

is the firmware from #9 fixed the issue?
So far, we don't sure if the firmware crashing the root cause of your issue, so
KC separated it to LP: #1933755. And firmware from #9 helps LP: #1933755 (see

[Bug 1923150] Re: unexpected error pop-up after 'apt install nvidia-driver-455'

2021-04-18 Thread Alex Tu
It seems still an issue if a user installed Focal by 20.04.1 before then
he buy and then plug-in a new Nvidia card to his PC then install nvidia
driver. The user will still get this error.

The version(2.0.4) of fixed apt not in focal-security, so user not
updated apt manually will still get the problem.

[Bug 1915003] Re: SRU: Always update the initramfs when changing power profile

2021-02-21 Thread Alex Tu
# suggestion:
On nvidia settings UI, there's no message saying it's building initrd after
user select on-demand mode. So, the nvidia settings looks like just hangs up
when it's building initrd.

If user have multiple kernel before selecting on-demand, user might be
confused and treat it as nvidia settings UI hangs up then force close it
or reboot machine.

2021-02-04 Thread Alex Tu
Hi Ian,

We sometime get compatibility issue form different external device and
even the HDMI cord(e.g. LP: #1890772).

To check if it's a external device issue, could you please help to do some test:
1. Will BIOS shows on external HDMI monitor if you plugged HDMI before booting
up your machine?
2. If lower resolution make you HDMI monitor light up?
   - I saw you make it light up after manually xrander command, how if you
change the resolution up and down? (I'm wondering if it related to LP: #1890772)

It sounds weird to me that focal user will always get an error during
installing nvidia-driver-450 after this SRU be done.

[Bug 1850089] Re: iwlwifi fails with linux-image-4.15.0-1059-oem

2020-09-07 Thread Alex Tu
hi reporter and any affected user,
I can not find any released image included
oem-wifi-intel-iwlwifi-lp1810708-4.15-stack-dev-e33ba6d-core43-10

Same as #4 comment, the only iwlwifi dkms we provided is backport-
iwlwifi-dkms.

Could you please show me the `ubuntu-report show`? or bto.xml in the
recovery partition, so that I know which OEM image you are using.
