I no longer need this script and i'm using intrepid 8.10 on all my machines.
The script i posted almost 2 years ago does require a special name. you only
have to mark the script as executeable (chmod 0755 scriptname).

Fetching Preseed Config from http or ftp fails, because the files
/lib/preseed/fetch-methods/http and /lib/preseed/fetch-methods/ftp are
empty.
I used the current netboot image from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/
In the included initrd.gz archive the ftp and the http file are linked
together, which causes that both files are empty when the installer is started.
If you unpack the initrd manually, both files contain the same content (and
they are linked; see cpio error msg).

It contains the http and ftp files but it seems that these files are linked
(when i unpack it on another machine cpio raises a warning).
I corrected this issue on my machine by deleting the ftp and http file and

I already ran the command and it already attached several log files.
