[Bug 1511945] [NEW] Failed "Merge All", TypeError: merge_all_non_conflicting_changes() takes exactly 1 argument (2 given)

2015-10-31 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

Since updating to Ubuntu Wily when resolving a git merge conflict with
meld I get this message in the console when using "Merge All" from the
menu.

TypeError: merge_all_non_conflicting_changes() takes exactly 1 argument
(2 given)

The "Merge All" doesn't do anything. I'd expect to merge all the (non-
conflicting) merge hunks that are marked in blue.

[Bug 1489584] Re: OpenJDK 8 support

2015-10-11 Thread Andreas Schildbach
I am and was using all kinds of versions of keytool. I never had any
problem.

I'd say as long as the reason for the lock-to-java8 is unknown, remove
it. It's causing a headache with my setup.

If in future we find out about an issue with keytool, the right was to
deal with that is backporting the fix to that issue.

[Bug 1296224] Re: Horrible noise via DisplayPort [regression]

2015-09-30 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Christopher, be aware that up to now I mainly tested by booting live
CDs, so of course also all other packages changed as well.

But I just tested two more mainline kernels on my 15.04 system (so
without changing any of the other packages):

3.12.48-0131248-generic: WORKS FINE. This is the last mainline kernel that
doesn't exhibit the bug.
3.13.0-031300rc1-generic: BUG. This is the first mainline kernel that has the
bug.

Guess I'll now start kernel bisecting between these two versions.

2015-09-30 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Christopher, I tried building the kernel from git source
(git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-trusty.git) but it always boots
up without the necessary drivers. Only with "dummy" sound and just a
basic screen resolution without support for dual screen etc. I followed:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel and tried using
"fakeroot debian/rules updateconfigs". How can I make it so the build
uses the same config like all Ubuntu kernels?

[Bug 1296224] Re: Horrible noise via DisplayPort [regression]

2015-09-29 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Christopher, before I take this effort I have two questions:

1) Are you sure this is a regression in the kernel itself? It could also
be a bug in another package (e.g. xserver-xorg-video-intel), right?

2) Do kernels in the 3.11.0-3.13.0 range work in combination with a
modern 15.04 distribution? Unfortunately I cannot downgrade back to
13.10/14.04 if this would be required for testing old kernels.

[Bug 1296224] Re: Horrible noise via DisplayPort [regression]

2015-09-27 Thread Andreas Schildbach
I cannot test this, because I moved to Utopic and Vivid. Both kernels
have the same problem. I think this test is as good as the one you're
proposing and the status of this ticket can be moved back to 'new'.

[Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500

2015-09-17 Thread Andreas Schildbach
I've got exactly this issue (missing characters, sometimes funny colored
artifacts replacing characters in fonts) on the Lenovo T410s (Ubuntu
15.04, xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917-1~exp1ubuntu2.2). Will this
fix be ported to Vivid?

[Bug 1489584] [NEW] OpenJDK 8 support

2015-08-27 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

Currently, /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/fdroidserver/common.py
contains hardcoded paths to keytool and jarsigner:

   'keytool': glob.glob('/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk-*/bin/keytool')[0],
'jarsigner':
glob.glob('/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk-*/bin/jarsigner')[0],

It would be nice if this was made more generic, so it can work with any
OpenJDK that is provided by Ubuntu.

[Bug 1445388] [NEW] Text Entry ignores all changes

2015-04-17 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from Utopic to Vivid RC and had my German keyboard layout
replaced by US layout. Opened Control Center Text Entry and the Input
sources list is empty. I try to add German (or US) but nothing happens.
The list stays empty. When I try to switch any other setting it very
briefly acknowledges the change but then switches back to where is came
from.

[Bug 1445388] Re: Text Entry ignores all changes

2015-04-17 Thread Andreas Schildbach
I found the reason for the strange behaviour of the system. After
upgrading, the file /home/username/.config/dconf/user was chowned to
root. So all write accesses failed.

Looks like there is some bug in the upgrading process.

[Bug 1363366] [NEW] DNSSEC for dnsmasq

2014-08-30 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

This is a wishlist item.

I'd like to use DNSSEC for dnsmasq out of the box. Currently support for
DNSSEC appears to be disabled at compile time: if I add dnssec options
to the dnsmasq.conf, it doesn't accept the configuration. I'm using
Ubuntu Trusty.

As a workaround, I currently configured DNSSEC to proxy via upstream DNS
with the proxy-dnssec option -- but this is insecure.

[Bug 1296224] [NEW] Horrible noise via DisplayPort [regression]

2014-03-23 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

This issue has been present and fixed two years ago and with Trusty Tahr
it re-appeared:

When logging in and my display is extended to two monitors, and also
when the screen blanks, I get 3-5 seconds of horrible noise via
DisplayPort audio out.

The noise is loud enough to damage ears and loudspeakers, if volume has
been set to a normal listening level.

[Bug 49579] Re: screen doesn't lock when some menu is open

2013-11-05 Thread Andreas Schildbach
@Ctrl-Alt-L is also broken. You need to close menus and other popups
first, otherweise the key combination will simply be ignored.

Also, on Multimonitor setups sometimes the second screen still shows its
content, despite the lock being activated.

IMHO the only reliable way of locking your Ubuntu computer is logging
out (manually).

[Bug 1234749] [NEW] Black screen + frozen mouse with XMir

2013-10-03 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

When I install unity-system-compositor and restart lightdm, I always get
a black screen with a frozen mouse pointer in the middle (actually on
two screen since I use multi-monitor).

This is happening through several updates of unity-system-compositor.
Alt-F1, apt-get purge unity-system-compositor and restarting lightdm
again fixes the problem.

100% reproducable.

[Bug 969940] Re: When going into standby, DP monitor emits horrible noises via attached speakers

2012-09-05 Thread Andreas Schildbach
This is still present in quantal. All you need to do to reproduce is
send sound via DisplayPort, play some song and send your device to
standby (for example by closing the lid).

Note that this issue can be health threatening, if you happen to listen
to music via headphone. Also, it can trash speakers.

2012-08-11 Thread Andreas Schildbach
The Wireless AP is an AVM FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7390 running FRITZ!OS
05.22.

My various Android devices connected to the same AP do not appear to
have this problem.

Distance: about 5m
Obstructions: none, apart from myself

I have no other AP to test with.

I'd say yes, this is a regression. Cannot remember to have these
problems with previous Ubuntu versions.

[Bug 1009878] [NEW] iwlwifi: Queue 11 stuck for 2000 ms

2012-06-07 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

About once a day, Wifi stops working for me. The indicator still tells
that I'm connected, but all connections fail. When I look at the syslog,
I always see this error at the time of the failure:

Reconnecting or disabling and enabling wireless does not repair my
connection. I have to reboot in order to use my Wifi again.

This is with precise on a Lenovo T410s, I'm pretty sure that this bug
was not present in oneiric.

[Bug 969940] [NEW] When going into standby, DP monitor emits horrible noises via attached speakers

2012-03-31 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

I am using a Thinkpad T410s with a Dell 2711 connected via DisplayPort.
Attached to the monitor, there is my speakers that I can use to listen
to music that is transmitted via DisplayPort (or HDMI). Starting with
Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu can transmit audio via DP.

However, when going into standby - either via inactivity timeout or via
closing the lid - I hear horrible sound garbage.

This is quite loud and can possibly damage speakers and/or ears,
depending on the sound level of whatever I heard before.

[Bug 899874] Re: Windows not appearing or invisible

2011-12-09 Thread Andreas Schildbach
@Bilal:

I'm always up-to-date with Oneric released updates (not necessarly with
_proposed_ updates)
Eclipse itself is _not_ from the Ubuntu repo, but downloaded and updated via
the Eclipse update mechanism.
Installed version: Indigo Service Release 1, Build id: 20110916-0149

@Omer:

It's probably multimonitor related. I can't remember this problem to
appear when working only on a single monitor, however this is quite rare
and the bug also does not appear all the time, so its quite possible
that I just missed the occasion.

[Bug 899874] Re: Windows not appearing or invisible

2011-12-07 Thread Andreas Schildbach
As you can see in the video, I am clicking the Eclipse launcher icon,
Eclipse opens the splash but then does *not* open its main windows.
Still, the small arrow is visible aside the launcher icon. I select Quit
from the context menu, Eclipse opens the closing dialog and then closes.

Sorry for the bad quality and portrait orientation...

Sure. Just open the app in question. Unity then thinks it is open
(displaying a small arrow besides its icon), but the window is not
visible.

[Bug 899874] [NEW] Windows not appearing or invisible

2011-12-04 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

Unity tends to not open windows properly. For example, Eclipse. It loads
(Splash appears), but when Unity says its loaded its main window does
not appear. I cannot pop it to front either. It just seems to be
unaccessible. I have to reboot in order to repair this; logging out and
in does not help. I've got similar problems with the chat application.

[Bug 767574] Re: Unity does not allow completely dragging windows to secondary screen

2011-04-21 Thread Andreas Schildbach
I can move the window as a whole, but when I try to move it on the
second screen, it does not move any further than the point where the
title is about to leave the first screen.

Just configure a vertical dualscreen setup with the primary screen on
the top, and try moving a window from the top to bottom.

[Bug 644763] [NEW] Ambiance and Radiance mix pointed and rounded corners

2010-09-21 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

Either you use just rouned corners.

Or you use just pointed corners.

If you mix, it looks very ugly. We've gone through this several years
ago (should I look up the Launchpad report?)

(Besides, the pointed corners lead to unusable small drag areas for
resizing windows.)
