[Bug 113463] kde-guidance-powermanager has annoying on-screen display
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kde-guidance-powermanager On various events (plugging the computer in, unplugging it, etc.), the powermanager displays a notification that tells me about the event. For me, the events are quite obvious and accompanied by other things happening, like the screen dimming or brightening, plus the plug being out of my computer. The notification is just a nuisance, and I'd like the option to disable it. I've already adjusted the notify() function to just return instead of notify, but this doesn't help others similarly annoyed. Tested on a macbook and an IBM Thinkpad Z61t, but it should definitely be reproducible across all systems. ** Affects: kde-guidance (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- kde-guidance-powermanager has annoying on-screen display https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113463 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for kde-guidance in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Hi, I'm really lost but that's ok i'll get there. I've installed v4l on my ubuntu 7.10. I've put the dib0700-01.fw in the firmware folder. This is still a bug. As Juanca noted, using -S does not solve the issue. I was trying to build the debian-installer, and the make always failed because of this exact issue. [Bug 1895002] [NEW] zram-config attempts to allocate more devices than permitted
Public bug reported: Using zram-config on a system with a sufficiently high count of CPUs causes the systemd service to fail. The reason being that there is a cap on the amount of swap devices that can be allocated. Zram is properly allocated, but the systemd service fails since some devices cannot be allocated. Below is the output of the service. The fix should be simple enough (but I'm not proficient with git patches yet). The script at /usr/bin/init-zram-swapping currently takes the number of CPUs and creates this many devices to enable parallelization. The simplest fix would be to set a max number of devices. An alternative would be to use a smaller number of devices, but enable multiple threads on each device. My understanding is that this is now possible, but I'm not sure which method is more performant. ... [Bug 222937] Re: gnome terminal scrollback buffer changed unexpectedly
Hi Pavel. That doesn't solve my issue, but thank you for trying anyway. The history output I pasted in the description was: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ history|tail 494 vi somefile 495 mprodb 496 finger 497 ssh hostomitted 498 ssh hostomitted 499 ssh -vvv hostomitted 500 ssh hostomitted 501 man geteuid 502 man -k uid 503 history|tail [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ You say 'history command simply show ~/.bash_history file', but that's not exactly right in my understanding. The shell reads the contents of ~/.bash_history at login into the shell's command history. With each new command a user runs, the shell appends that command to the shell's command history. Running the history shell built-in will cause the shell to output that command history list. Please correct me if I am mistaken. In my report above, the history output correctly showed what my actual command history was in the remote system's currently executing shell. It's gnome-terminal which displayed the wrong buffer after 'man' exited. In my case it showed the contents of another terminal's buffer! I notice you changed this bug's status to incomplete. What data do you need from me to consider this a bug worth investigating? I don't have steps to reproduce the bug.. it's very strange that it happens occasionally, but even stranger that it happens at all. I will keep working on a way to reproduce it. [Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically
If it helps, here is the behavior I am seeing: 1. Problem is sporadic. Sometimes it happens frequently (and is extremely annoying), other times it happens rarely. 2. When it happens, it appears that some X window (I say some to mean any as far as I can tell) that has just interacted with the mouse (and perhaps performed some kind of a grab) doesn't release the grab. In other words, if I right-click on some other screen location that is above a different widget, and the last thing to have grabbed the mouse has a context menu, I'll get the context menu for that last item instead of the mouse events being passed to the item I'm trying to click. 3. Sometimes, furiously left and right clicking, Alt+Tabbing, etc. appears to clear the error. Other times, I have to hunt down the widget that has the cursor and click it with alternating buttons to try and reset the mouse grab state. It's been years since I've done anything with Xlib, but if I had the time to try and find this bug, I'd start looking for reasons why random grabs aren't being released. -- Mouse clicks stop working sporadically https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 471579] [NEW] display properties creates unusable xorg.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Having just upgraded to 9.10 successfully on my laptop, I plugged in an external monitor, opened up the gnome-display-properties (belonging to gnome-control-center 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu1) , and de-selected the mirror screens checkbox. It offered by default that the external monitor should have 1680x1050, with the laptop screen at 1024x768, but that it needed to resize the virtual desktop before the settings would take effect. I said okay. On logging out, the laptop screen went to flickering without end, as in a respawning X server, while the external stayed blank. I rebooted, external monitor still connected, and the flickering display started immediately after decrypting my drive, before X was even thinking of starting. This new flickering prevented the startup process from going forward, and persisted on my next reboot without the external monitor connect. I restarted in recovery mode, and copied the old xorg.conf into place to be able to file this report, but I haven't rebooted again to see if the initial framebuffer death is still there. [Bug 754000] Re: 3 finger touch interferes with 3 finger click (middle click)
In Unity a design decision has been made that three and four finger gestures are reserved for the shell. For example, any time you put three touches down on a multitouch trackpad you can start draging the window around (assuming it's not full screen). The only way to implement this behavior is to mask out the three-touch-tap behavior that X synaptics supports. I'm sorry to say that they only reason three touch tapping works in unity 2D is because it doesn't yet implement the window moving gesture. There's no reason this can't be made configurable. I can envision an option turns off specific gestures in Unity. If you disable the window move gesture you'll get three touch tap to paste functionality back. If someone in the community wants to offer a patch to do this we would be happy to review it. ** Changed in: mactel-support Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: unity Status: Invalid = Opinion ** Changed in: utouch Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Opinion ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/754000 Title: 3 finger touch interferes with 3 finger click (middle click) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mactel-support/+bug/754000/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Ian, I understand the sentiment, but such a change would cause untold number of complaints from users who are used to two-tap being right click :). Daniel, Sorry for mixing up the clicking vs tapping aspect of this bug. You are right that they are different. [Bug 754000] Re: Running Unity disables Xorg's 3-finger click support (middle click)
Ian, You're right that taking three tap for paste away is a use case change, but it's not as big of a change as moving one response from one action to a different action. Another thing to note is that Ubuntu tries to cater to people who come from all environments. The X copy/paste functionality is sort of an oddity in desktop systems. It ends up confusing people who aren't used to it. An argument could be made that although it can be used effectively, making it less easy to use would not be very harmful to the majority of users. All these aspects have been weighed against the ability to add meaningful gesture use cases, and the design team at Canonical believes this is the best approach at this time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/754000 Title: Running Unity disables Xorg's 3-finger click support (middle click) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mactel-support/+bug/754000/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 832624] Re: cursor jumping to screen border
Samuel, The evdev swap axes property has been deprecated since Natty. We are aware of issues with swap axes and the new masked valuators, but we don't have plans to resolve them. There is a much more robust solution in the form of the Input Transformation Matrix property. It allows for any 2D affine transformation to be applied to the input, including rotation and inversion. Please see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/InputCoordinateTransformation I am guessing that if you switch to using the transformation property this issue will go away, so I'm going to mark this as Won't Fix. [Bug 932947] Re: [FFe] ClickPad support
** Description changed: ClickPad devices are those with the buttons integrated into the touch surface. Examples include most newer Synaptics touchpads and all Apple multitouch touchpads. These devices currently have poor support for click and drag. When the user presses with one finger and then tries to - drag the cursor with a second finger, the cursor stops either sits there - or begins scrolling. Also, the current behavior makes no distinction - between left and right click button areas. + drag the cursor with a second finger, the cursor either sits there or + scroll events begin to be sent depending on the trackpad preferences. + Also, the current behavior makes no distinction between left and right + click button areas. The proposed feature enables click and drag with two fingers. Optionally, a right button area may be enabled which allows for presses in the area to be sent as right button events instead of left button events. The current patches may be found at: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~cndougla/xf86-input- synaptics/log/?h=clickpad-v2. The changes include everything newer than the master tag. [Bug 939125] [NEW] Clicking link in thunderbird opens browser, but focus remains on thunderbird
Public bug reported: When I click on a link in thunderbird, chrome is raised (it is already running). I see the chrome window, and everything looks fine except the title bar at the top is still for thunderbird. Mouse input goes to chrome, but if I perform keyboard input first it will still go to thunderbird. This is a problem when I hit ctrl-w to close the new tab, but instead thunderbird is silently closed in the background. Secondarily, while in the bad state alt+tab does not work. The switcher graphic shows, and the dock comes out to wiggle the application being switched to, but the application isn't raised. I don't know if the two issues are related, but I suspect they are. Pedro, I just uploaded a new version of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics with clickpad support. Please try it out without setting the Synaptics Area property. [Bug 938737] Re: Setting AreaBottomEdge on xorg.conf causes touchpad to stop working
Two finger click interferes with clickpad press-and-drag. We had to disable it for the time being. I hope that we can bring it back once some finer heuristics have been developed. We will probably enable right click by adding a right button area in the lower right corner of trackpads. When you press in that area it will cause the right button to be pressed instead of the left button. I haven't seen any bug reports about the two-touch functionality being disabled. Please open a new report so we can track any solutions for it, including enabling the right button area.
