I launched emacs23 from The Launcher. The window appears in my current
workspace.
I right-clicked in emacs' titlebar and sent it to workspace #2.
I then used CTRL-ALT-rightarrow to switch to workspace #2. Emacs is not there.
I visited every (all 6) workspaces, and emacs does

effect, in English, normal text. If I turn off Show Changes, then I
can see the text. Text that was not changed shows up. Zooming in or out

Is there a quick workaround for this problem? The computer that I
upgraded to 10.04 is pretty useless right now.

When I tried to install the synaptic-dbgsym pacakge, I got a LOT of
error messages. Most of the errors centered around the empathy and
rhythmbox packages. (Neither of which I need, especially now, when I'm
trying to get my computer back to a state where I can do my real job.)

I installed the new kernel, 2.6.32, and still have the same problem with
the greeter, synaptic, firefox, and thunderbird getting segmentation
faults. The gdb traceback for synaptic hints that the problem is in

run synaptic,
delete all the libreoffice packages. (not the fonts or uno-related packages)
Go to libreoffice.org and download the latest.

There are several really annoying side-effects of this bug.
1. When the mouse is over the Thunderbird main window (full screen), the
Ubuntu key doesn't bring up the Ubuntu launcher. (this bug)
2. When Thunderbird's Reply/New button is clicked, the Reply/New window
is created and displayed UNDER
I ended up downloading the source for libsndfile and some of its dependencies
and recompiling.
After over-writing the distributed library with the recompiled one, it works
again.

My fresh installation of 12.04 on my HP Touchsmart (x86_64), with nVidia
graphics freezes within one minute of logging in.
It doesn't matter if I run any applications or not...the system will freeze.
I can move the mouse, but I cannot type anything, e.g., to get a console, and
nothing responds
I tried #6, upping the hard soft files to 4096, rebooted and then
looked at the lsof | wc -l output every 5 seconds. Some of the numbers

kernel. The first reboot after upgrading would always fail. A 2nd reboot
would always work. This time, after upgrading to 3.16.0-28-generic

The bounding rectangle, which is part of the image, does show up in the
preview. It does not print properly under evince. The lower-left corner
is cut off when printed from evince. It does print properly with okular.
I have a Lexmark X543 printer.

I printed the attached file with 3 different evince print settings,None, Shrink
to Printable Area, and Fit to Printable Area.
In all three cases, the upper and right outlines of the map show up in the
printout, but the left and lower outlines do not. The bottom left corner

When I run pdfimages -f 1 -l 1 -png Z.pdf z-pdfimages, I get 5 images,
two of which are black rectangles.
If I run pdftocairo -png Z.pdf z-pdftocairo, I get one image that looks
correct.

Every so often, thunderbird asks to compact my folders. Is it keeping
them open after compacting? It shouldn't.

Have to login twice after suspending

sudo apt-get remove gnome-screensaver
Then:
sudo killall gnome-screensaver
Suspend, resume and you will be direct on the Unity's password prompt.
