I still have the screen dimming problem with Gutsy. I have not tried
Hardy to still if the problem exists there still, but I have the current
Hardy LiveCD downloading atm to test. As for the BIOS I have nothing in
my BIOS for setting the brightness of the screen for when it goes on to
battery.

I found tonight when i tried to download some pics to my laptop from my
digital camera (Canon Powershot A410) that the import photo function was
greyed out.
When looked to see what the diffs were
I have some great news i have got my 5 in 1 card reader working with SD
media cards.
I found the drivers here http://developer.berlios.de/projects/tifmxx
I have tested the drivers with a Canon 16MB SD card and SanDisk 512MB SD
card and have been able to read both cards with no problem, and both
sorry i got abit a head of myself above post with compiling the drivers
afterwards i realized that the 2.6.17-10-generic kernel already had the
driver.
so i removed the drivers that i compiled and installed and ran sudo
/sbin/depmod -ae
All I had to do from the start was from terminal type
sudo
i have some more info that might help
after running sudo update-pciids
my lspci reads as this now for my card reader

In order to select a file, you open a dialog window, when the dialog
window support too much file type, it will increase dialog window width
size, finally the dialog window width size exceed computer screen size.

Thanks you response quickly, I don't use compiz. I hope to improve the
dialog window can check the the size of itself. If the size too big, it
can automatic wrap line or it doesn't show all file type, just when
mouse move on, show a tip message.

Working on a 10.10 test installation VM via virtualbox. May have
happened after installation of guest additions. Crash is constant.
