This issue also affects MSI's 970A-G46 mainboard with a bulldozer 8-core
cpu. On this system the Realtek RTL8111/RTL8168B NIC is also
unresponsive along with the USB devices. Luckily I have a PS2 keyboard
and was thus able to dig around the booted system a bit using the CLI.

blacklist usblp - no joy, still no printout (forgot to check the

remove blacklist, update cups using ppa - still broken - reports waiting for
printer to become available in the gnome print gui, no data lamp activity on
printer upon
first off, only one of my cups packages upgraded to ppa8:

I've not had the chance to test the blacklisting yet, but I have tested
the same printer under windows and os x through the usb-to-parallel
cable, with the same symptoms. Although if I leave a print job in
windows' queue and turn the computer off and back on (I don't know
whether there's an issue
using 1.5.3-0ubuntu2~ppa3 both with and without the blacklist the
printer behaves the same as before: data light flashes for 5 minutes
(exactly 5?) and then returns to steady indicating it's default idle
state.
After removing the blacklist file and loading the usblp module the
printer is not
ok, with PPA15 my results are the same usb transaction timeouts.

I'm not sure whether this is a false lockup or not. The display became
unresponsive for maybe a second or two and then was back to life again
followed by the apport message.
Not sure what else I can provide information-wise other than this is a retina
macbook pro early 2013
jsut happened again. Everything remained functional but google-chrome
hung hard and required force-quiting (I was watching the ubuntu-on-air
broadcast at the time)
