this issue has been reported on several machines ranging from Mac thru
x86/x64 VMs to x86/x64 physical machines. I experienced it on a
Samsung netbook and different VMs Virtual Box on two different hosts.
On both hosts inside the VMs, this issue doesn't occur any more.

system did freeze with every hibernate attempt and my only choice left was to
forcibly power off.

(precise-updates). I updated, and it works now! That is, the error

I restored the partition image and thereby probably destroyed the info.

If someone cares, in my role as granny, I clicked the reboot button in the tray

I was not able to test the upstream kernel.
However, I have re-installed the beta 2 release and also installed all updates.
I have not seen the issue again.

When I do the steps:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
I do not get a new kernel.
Anyway, the Kernel version on the system seams to be more current then the one
mentioned in the post above:
df@feretti-virt:~$ uname -r
3.13.0-29-generic
So either I am missing something or the bug

Installing 14.04.1 LTS server. Same problem reproduced with 14.04 server and
12.04.5 LTS server.
Boot install media either from CD or from USB stick
Boot menu comes up.
Pick install (default) and hit enter.
Select keyboard (en_US), hit enter.

It's very annoying. The hardware detects whether or not there is a
microphone present in the headset. If there isn't, I only have the one
3.5mm port, so it's not like I could attach one. I don't see any
