I've found an odd program which does somethinguseful but it's crashed and
caused problems with another componant if my Ubuntu desktop machine. I know
that the Ubuntu devs like us to use apport, but
I ahev subscribed Apport upstream developers and Canonical Desktop Team.
I think this is the way to bring this bug to their attention. I am also

I suggest off the top of my head one of two solutions: a.) ignore spaces

This is a simple interface bug, here's how I found it:
I had ekiga running on screen, I also had empathy running on screen. I
plugged in a webcamera and got a useful popup dialog asking me if I
wanted to use this device as my default for audio.
I suggest that the dialog be renamed to 'Ekiga - Audio Devices' or the
text include a reference to ekiga like: 'Ekiga has detected a new audio
device' or both!

Firefox is installed and working, because I can start it from the cli,
but there is no menu entry.

could run a command prompt on the broken system and fix it.

Managed to fix it on my T40 using the alternate installer and 'vi'
editor.

Wow, that seemed to be the problem indeed. I changed it to en_US and
downloaded some updates and it started working, but since you mentioned
the locale, it makes sense that it started working. There were a few
other bugs I was experiencing that seemed to have disappeared after
changing my locale.
Same error message after resume from suspend to ram.
amd64 kernel on a AMD Phenon II X3 720, nvidia gtx. Everything seems to
still be working properly though.

I am however using an ASUS M50sv with a modified bios. It was modified
to be able to work with the Apple 10.5.5 OS.
