Can use putty on this system to ssh into these boxes as well.

Running the echo command on those hosts gives me: SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_7.6p1
Ubuntu-4ubuntu0.3
Protocol mismatch.

I can ping those hosts

If I use the linux version of putty on the system I can ssh into those
hosts

Not seeing anything related in dmesg

Thanks for the responses Christian.

This client does indeed run in VMware, VMware Player 15

Running it using /ssh -o IPQoS=throughput user@host /and it functions
correctly on multiple hosts.

this issue.

[Bug 1854383] Re: Extra window decorations are created on windows with client-side decorations.

2020-01-19 Thread FranksMCB
Running in VirtualBox with Ubuntu MATE 20.04 20200119 daily.

I can confirm that this behavior exists.

However, following the steps listed to reproduce this I was unable to
get this to occur. Performing the steps multiple times. On the 3rd
attempt this behavior manifested itself. After this occurred the
behavior repeated itself consistently.

Re: [Bug 1824905] Re: Provide user feedback when running ubuntu-drivers [was:Long pause when selecting 3rd party drivers during install]

2019-04-16 Thread FranksMCB
After install.  Alt-F2 and ran ubuntu-bug.  That brought up the Apport
screen with the options to select different problems to report.  Checked
Other problem and Got "You need to specify a package or a PID. See
--help for more information."

So I went to Launchpad and created a bug report.  I have replicated this
just now and created a bug #1825028

Last evening Launchpad.net would just go to an error message when trying
to create this bug with the exact same information I just put in for the
bug listed above.

[Bug 1917183] Re: Font spacing and rendering is wrong in latest 21.04

2021-03-01 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
Work-around:

Move /etc/fonts/conf.d/91-ubuntu-mate-emojiconf to
/etc/fonts/fonts.avail and create a link in /etc/fonts/conf.d to
/etc/fonts/fonts.avail/91-ubuntu-mate-emojiconf

Spacing issues are resolved and there is no need to remove `fonts-noto-
color-emoji`

[Bug 1861191] [NEW] System hangs on graphical boot after kernel and nVidia upgrade

2020-01-28 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
Public bug reported:

System is Ubuntu MATE 18.04.3 T430 with nVidia

On 27 Jan 2019 nvidia drivers were updated to 390.116 via apt upgrades with no
issues.
On 28 Jan 2919 kernel was updated to 5.3.0-28.30-18 via apt upgrades with no
issues.
System was rebooted today.

Expected outcome:
System reboots into desktop login

Actual outcome:
System gets to grub menu then hangs on black screen. TTYs are not responsive.

This is reproducible and consistent. System will return to black screen
and hung state.

Workaround:
Editing Grub and adding nouveau.modset=0 allows system to boot to GUI login.

[Bug 1861191] Re: System hangs on graphical boot after kernel and nVidia upgrade

2020-01-28 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
nVidia driver 340.107 is available, however switching to that in
Software & Updates has resulted in some issues.

After Apply Changes, I am kicked to the Nouveau driver.

And I get an ErrorBrokenCount > 0

Trying to resolve with sudo apt --fix-broken install as recommended by
apt gives me:

[Bug 1861191] Re: System hangs on graphical boot after kernel and nVidia upgrade

2020-01-28 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
System was in unstable state after trying to use nvidia version 340 as
suggested in post #2.

Needed to have system in functional state.

Was able to use sudo dpkg-divert --remove to remove the mismatched
packages from nvidia-340 attempt.

Afterwards all nvidia* packages were purged from the system.

Removed kernel packages for 5.30.28 and reinstalled.
Installed nvidia-driver-390

System boots into 5.3.0-28 without black-screen, however nvidia driver while
installed does not load.
> ERROR: NVIDIA driver is not loaded

This is repeatable

However if I revert to kernel 5.3.0-26 using nvidia 390.116 it loads and
runs correctly.

I can provide you any logs you require, however after the work above was
completed I am unable to reproduce the hang and black screen that
started this AM.

[Bug 1861305] [NEW] Kernel 5.3.0-28 and nvidia 390.116 driver not loading

2020-01-29 Thread Bill (franksmcb)
Public bug reported:

System is Ubuntu MATE 18.04.3 HWE T430 with nVidia.

System updated nvidia driver to 390.116
System updated to kernel 5.3.0-28.30-18 on 28 Jan.

nvidia 390.116 works correctly with kernel 5.3.0-26

Running nvidia-settings gives this:
nvidia-settings

ERROR: NVIDIA driver is not loaded
ERROR: Error querying enabled displays on GPU 0 (Missing Extension).
ERROR: Error querying connected displays on GPU 0 (Missing Extension).

** Message: 08:55:10.725: PRIME: Requires offloading
** Message: 08:55:10.725: PRIME: is it supported? yes

nvidia-smi returns this:
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver.
Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

I have purged all nvidia drivers from system and removed kernel 5.3.0-28.
nvidia drivers and kernel have been reinstalled with no problems reported.

This is repeatable.
