I have the same (or similar) problem.
To resolve the freezing of most of the gui applications, I have to repeat the
logoff-login operation, pressing the shortkey-combinations CTRL + ALT + F1, and
the problem seems to disapere.

Title:
No font available after installing in user space
To manage
The font is downloadable from https://www.fonts4free.net/ecofont-vera-
sans-font.html as stated before.
I downloaded the zipped .ttf file, unziped it, clicked on it twice in
Nautilus file manager, the Ubuntu installation procedure started and
finished apparently in a correct/successful way.

I had the same problem on Kubuntu Hardy, from a Gutsy dist-upgrade.
I managed to find out that Sun Java was working well. The problem was
that OpenJDK Java seems to be incompatible with Frostwire, and Hardy
Well, I have just checked if the bug was still active. I first upgraded
Ubuntu with the latest 'stable' packages, then shutted down (in order to
solve any file-write problem) and powered on.
At first, restarting I soon as I had Gnome loaded completely, made the
things work. I mean, I was happy to
Looks quite similar, really.
Let the experts decide what to do. Or do it, if you want.
Thanks for the info.

No, I didn't upgrade. I made a clean installation of Gutsy. I erased
even the ext3 and swap partitions, and let Ubuntu create them. And no
(also), Ubuntu doesn't reboot even using the console. The only
difference using it were the lines I posted above (it showed them).

I have the exact same problem, and suppose all Konqueror user have.
What's more, I've found the solution. After several minutes, It was only
a line in the file cited below. Search for the element (it already
exists) and add the property (as root).
/usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde-
Also, I've assigned this bug to kubuntu-default-settings package, as it
is not a kdebase problem.
