It boots up nicely but as soon as xwindows starts it is black only. It

The gnome-volume-manager packet is installed on my Jaunty system. Why is
it still there when it's obsolete? Does it even do anything? Anyway, I
attached the output of devkit-disks --dump. The cdrom is listed,
automounting for audio and blank cds works too, only data
PulseAudio is dynamic and that should be explained clearly. For example, in
the Applications tab nothing is seen until an
application actually uses audio.
The volume control in karmic shows a text saying sth. like no
application is currently playing or recording if this is the case.

'can_suspend' keys in gconf. Unfortunately this does not work! I still

Sound is tinney (metallic) at high volumes and flat (meaning not full
bodied) at lower volumes. It's like listening to music underwater, and
then in an underwater cavern.
Also, I have found with previous releases of ubuntu (not sure about this

Rhythmbox
Pausing did not help for me, I had to restart pulseaudio to get rid of
crackling sound. Also I can confirm that it affects all sound, not just
banshee.

gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg wasn't installed on my system and I had the same
problem. However installing gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly got rid of the
issue.

Concerning the workaround proposed by Hugh Blemings: If you set it up
this way with the compiz config manager and enable Unfocus window in
the Misc. Options tab, the viewport doesn't move, so the behavior is
what you would expect from the Move window to workspace events.
