I see this too on two computers since Hardy where g-p-m is disabled. The logout
dialog code checks to see if suspend and hibernate buttons are to be added and
asks g-p-m. However if it is not running it does not get the answer and it
blocks. g-p-m is started by this but possibly too late to
it's not a security hole since one is supposed to test a kiosk setup before
deploying it ;) Still it is an annoying bug for kiosk users.
Since it is not yet part of any release it's not in edgy, whether or when it
will get in dapper is not yet known. There's another kiosk issue in dapper
I assume this is not about xfce-mcs-manager but xfdesktop? If so please change
the package to xfdesktop4. Is this edgy or dapper? How do you reproduce losing
the menu? One such case was fixed a while ago.
Please state the exact version of xfdesktop you are using.

no, evince-gtk is a xubuntu package. If removing ubuntu-desktop is not
desirable that evince-gtk should not be installed. One thing that
ubuntu-desktop could do is recommend instead of
depend on evince so it can be removed, but I do not know the critertia that are
used to decide whether a
