distros, when unity, the new interface (if we can really call it that

I have the exact same error too on my Acer 8950G with an AMD Radeon HD
6850M. Everything installs without any errors and when I reboot, Ubuntu

This crash occurred again last night.
I believe it was due to the computer trying to suspend/hibernate when
becoming dangerously close to running out of battery.
Computer did not successfully hibernate, and soon halted completely when
the battery ran out.

Isolated incident after updating. Problem surfaced after updating nvidia

Turns out I don't have vnc4server installed. Package in question is
actually vino.

Here to report that Stefan Glasenhardt's workaround works perfectly.
I added the line:
Option Legacy3d false
to xorg.conf, which enabled hardware acceleration, allowing me to get to
the desktop WITH compiz. Perfect!
I've attached the requested outputs.
