Reinstalling Ubuntu 13.04 (instead of upgrading from 12.10), fixed my
issues with missing indicators for all applications I mentioned in that
related question, EXCEPT parcellite. So, you are right in concluding
that this issue is not the same issue you've discovered with parcellite.

After upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04, I used Update-Manger to check for
updates. There were a few updates so I click the install button.
The update got about half-way done and it got stuck for 45 minute on
unpacking linux-image-3.8.0-15generic.
It is still stuck right now,
The update-manager never completed the update, so I was forced to reboot
my computer.
This broke the package manager, so I ran this command after restart:
sudo apt-get install -f
After this, I was able to run update-manager again and successfully
complete the updates.

If you ever go full screen, Remmina remembers, and because the hover-bar
doesn't always show (with this bug), it can be difficult to figure out
how to get out of full screen. Here's what I did:

Uncheck this option: Remember last view mode for each connection.

Look here's the bottom line test to prove the dash is too slow:
Hit the super-key, and immediately (without waiting at all) type your
first name as fast as you can.
When the dash finally launches, how many of the letters (you typed) made
it into the dash? How many are missing from the beginning

be cached or pre-rendered, so that there is absolutely no noticeable

Also, in my opinion, even 1 second is way too long. 100 milliseconds,
however, is acceptable. This could be accomplished with pre-rendering
and RAM caching. The current performance feels swap drivey!

Sorry, I need to mention one other thing.
I do notice that it is faster after the first time you access it. For me
the very first time (after a reboot) takes about 2 or 3 seconds.
Thereafter, it takes 1 second (which to me is still too long).
