Fedora kernel 2.6.22.5-76.fc7 (Aug 30 2007) although the sky2 driver
version 1.14, so may be it is not the sky2 driver problem or may be it
is a modified 1.14. Can someone please check the difference?

In Hardy, the keyboard shortcut for keyboard layout switching becomes
ineffective after reboot. Steps:
1) Install Hardy.
2) Add a new keyboard layout (I added Arabic).
3) Select the keyboard shortcut for switching between layouts (I use Alt+Shift).

I can confirm this bug under Feisty, the Arabic characters consisting of 2
characters( ex. ﻻ ﻷ ﻹ ﻵ) are disconnected with the previous character (the
character on the right)
when you write:
ا ه ل ا
it is shown as:
اهلا
However when you write:
ا ه ﻻ
It is shown as:
اهﻻ
(not connected)

This problem is no longer there in the last Feisty updates

This is not the issue with all the arabic fonts, I can produce this bug
using some fonts but not while using Nimbus fonts or Monospace (this is
why you did not notice it in gedit).
If you changed the used font in gedit, you will have the same problem.
