[Bug 1866844] Re: package libc6:amd64 2.31-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: installed libc6:amd64 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127

2020-03-14 Thread Mike L
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1867431 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867431

Ran into the same issue. Had to also chroot in and update, dist-upgrade
fix broken install, then copy the .so files and then everything was fine
after a reboot. Hours of time gone, but thanks to you guys, it's fixed!
I ironically ran into this or a similar issue after experiencing
problems with libc6 on eoan. Said issue caused me to upgrade early
hoping to avoid similar bugs. So much for that. Please not only look
into this, but ensure eoan isn't bugged as well, even with it soon being
on the backburner.

Also the lockscreen image is affected as well. Sometimes other parts of
the UI are as well like browser windows.

[Bug 1826616] [NEW] After resuming from suspend, wallpaper turns to static

2019-04-26 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

As stated in the title of the bug, every time I resume from suspend, the
wallpaper turns into a static picture. This can be somewhat alleviated
by switching the wallpaper, but the previous wallpaper is unusable until
reboot.

[Bug 1826057] [NEW] Automatically signed out of Ubuntu One on terminating session

2019-04-23 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

If the user reboots or shuts down (uncertain about logging off and back
on), they will be signed out from Ubuntu One. Previously, Ubuntu
Software on 18.10 and earlier, the user would be signed out of Ubuntu
One after closing the Software Store, but now it takes a reboot or
something similar and the user is signed out of Ubuntu One. At least the
bug is now less annoying. Running Ubuntu 19.04 amd64 with gnome-software

[Bug 1825756] Re: Window snapping to corners via mouse

2019-04-21 Thread Mike L
** Description changed:

Curretly, this feature simply does not exist, unless you count the buggy
keyboard implementation. Please add the feature to snap windows to the
bottom left and right and upper left and right corners via the mouse
alone. Currently, if you manually install compiz settings, you can map
the keyboard out to do this. Windows 10 and Ubuntu MATE and possibly
other distros/desktop environments allow this snap behavior. Why not
  Ubuntu with GNOME?

Bug does not effect disco. I checked. As a workaround, you can download
all the related packages from disco and the login issue will be
resolved. Maybe the devs can find out what changed and backport it?

"Keep Aligned". Now log off. Don't reboot or shutdown as neither appear
to trigger the bug. Log back in. Notice 100% of the time the checkbox is
now untoggled. This is annoying and makes the desktop icons line up like
they were meant for Windows 9x without alignment. The user selected
option should persist past logoff. Running Ubuntu 18.10, with nautilus

[Bug 1803909] [NEW] Ubuntu Software not staying logged into Ubuntu One

2018-11-18 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

If the user signs into Ubuntu One, upon exiting Ubuntu Software they
will be logged out. This does not apply to the Snap Store; sign in once
there and things work properly - you are logged in for good. Running
Ubuntu 18.04, version 3.30.2 of Ubuntu Software. User should stay logged
into Ubuntu One once they sign in once instead of being automatically
logged out.

2018-11-12 Thread Mike L
Land for dingo? What are the possibilities of a backport to both 18.04
and 18.10? Couldn't this be considered a security vulnerability? It can
theoretically be used to close someone else's work out without saving,
depending on the application.

[Bug 1802981] [NEW] Lockscreen shown dash when screen was locked

2018-11-12 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

I decided to leave my laptop and came back a few minutes later, and I
noticed that the dash was visible from the lockscreen. Not good. Running
Ubuntu 18.10 as a fresh install. Was able to quit and open applications
from the dash. Uncertain if that's a security risk or not. Uncertain of
how to reproduce as in what triggered it. Dash should definitely not be
visible when the lockscreen is active.

1) That is correct. Only rebooting into Windows will trigger the bug when you
go back into Ubuntu. I've tested this just now to confirm it.
2) OK. Will take note.

[Bug 1772183] Re: Microsoft Mice on dual boot systems can scroll multiple lines at a time.

2018-05-29 Thread Mike L
1) The mouse model is Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse.
2) This issue does not appear in Microsoft Windows 10, the version I have
installed to my other partition. I believe from reading the comments on
askububtu the bug needs a dual boot configuration to exist.
3) I don't believe I tested for this particular bug, but I noticed odd
scrolling in Half Life in Steam that was only fixed by rebooting in the proper
sequence. I had no clue about the depth of the bug at the time. But it
definitely existed in 16.04 as well. Can't recall if it existed prior, but it
wouldn't surprise me.
4) Computer is an HP envy m7-n101dx.
5) The workaround package is located here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/resetmsmice/
6) Yeah removing and reinserting the transciever fixes it until you reboot into
Windows 10 again. You don't have to do it intermittently.

[Bug 1772183] [NEW] Microsoft Mice on dual boot can scroll multiple lines at a time.

2018-05-19 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 18.04. Noticed this bug in 16.04 and earlier for who
knows how long. See https://askubuntu.com/questions/47100/mouse-wheel-
scrolling-too-fast. Installing the workaround package or removing the
transceiver appears to be a workaround for the time being. Xorg should
automatically scroll normally, not multiple lines at time after
rebooting. Sometimes rebooting doesn't fix the issue. Askubuntu mentions
the bug dating back to Natty.

It does seem to increase memory usage. GNOME shell sure is leaky. Glad I
have the luxury of 16GB of RAM. Still should be fixed in the LTS, IMO.
Even if not high priority.

[Bug 1311847] [NEW] Neither Print, SHIFT+Print, nor CTRL+Print keyboard shortcuts work on Trusty

2014-04-23 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with the latest updates. Version of unity-
settings-daemon is 14.04.0+14.04.20140414-0ubuntu1. Possible that this
bug either affects unity-settings-daemon, gnome-screenshot, or something
else.

I expected Print to take a screenshot. Ditto for CTRL+Print and
ALT+Print. All my settings under Keyboard Shortcuts are normal.

Everything worked for every prior release of Ubuntu with the Print key
taking a screenshot. Also, neither CTRL+Print nor SHIFT+Print work at
all. If you reassign the keys for taking a screenshot, to any other
keys, gnome-screenshot works as expected. Assigning either of those
three key/key combinations to any command does not work. ALT+Print
strangely enough works without issue. Running gnome-screenshot from the
terminal also works without issue. Unlike the other bugs I've seen that
sound similar, I do not hear a sound at all when pressing any of those
three key combinations. Toggling the magic sysrq key does nothing for
this issue either.

[Bug 1311847] Re: Neither Print, SHIFT+Print, nor CTRL+Print keyboard shortcuts work on Trusty

2014-04-23 Thread Mike L
Also this only effects my HP dv7-4285dx laptop after fresh install, and
my desktop seems to work fine. I Googled and saw that several KDE users
some months ago had a similar issue. So maybe it's related to X,
systemd, or something else at the low level? A lot of the users
reporting the issue reported that they experienced it only on certain
machines, and in every case it was a HP laptop in the dv-whatnot series.
This may help trace the problem down.

[Bug 1311847] Re: Neither PrintScreen, SHIFT+PrintScreen, nor CTRL+PrintScreen keyboard shortcuts work on Trusty

** Summary changed:

** Description changed:

Running Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with the latest updates. Version of unity-
settings-daemon is 14.04.0+14.04.20140414-0ubuntu1. Possible that this
bug either affects unity-settings-daemon, gnome-screenshot, or something
  else.

- I expected Print to take a screenshot. Ditto for CTRL+Print and
- ALT+Print. All my settings under Keyboard Shortcuts are normal.

Everything worked for every prior release of Ubuntu with the Print key
- taking a screenshot. Also, neither CTRL+Print nor SHIFT+Print work at
- all. If you reassign the keys for taking a screenshot, to any other
- keys, gnome-screenshot works as expected. Assigning either of those
- three key/key combinations to any command does not work. ALT+Print
- strangely enough works without issue. Running gnome-screenshot from the
- terminal also works without issue. Unlike the other bugs I've seen that
- sound similar, I do not hear a sound at all when pressing any of those
- three key combinations. Toggling the magic sysrq key does nothing for
- this issue either.

[Bug 1263412] Re: strange/broken global-menu integration for AisleRiot

2014-03-30 Thread Mike L
I can confirm this on both my Ubuntu 13.10 install and a live CD of
14.04. It's very annoying to see two menu bars. Inconsistent to the UI.
I suggest hiding one of them for now at least, and if anyone has time
make it so the GTK2 style menu bar is in the top panel in the global
menu. Please remove the Gnome 3 menu.

[Bug 1244493] [NEW] Software Center doesn't save settings on Saucy

2013-10-24 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

Certain settings will be reset for some odd reason whenever I quit the Software
Center. Here's the main two areas where I notice this issue, both accessible
under View in the global menu:
1) Attempting to toggle on or off the option New Applications in Launcher,
regardless of what it's set to upon an exit and repopening of the Software
Center it's set back to the default option of a check, meaning it will show new
applications in the launcher regardless of what the user has set it to.
2) Attempting to select the option Turn on Recommendations... will also alow
me to turn them on, but upon closing and opening up the Software Center again,
I have to re-enable recommendations if I want them

Running Ubuntu 13.10 Suacy with all the latest updates, with the latest
version of the Software Center (13.10). Yes I have proposed updates
enabled, but this may have happened at first with the original package
in Saucy as well. Regardless, these are official packages and this is a
usability bug in need of a fix. The settings don't save (I remember they
saved in previous Ubuntu versions) but they no longer do. Obviously,
these settings should save somewhere for a consistent experience.

[Bug 1244499] [NEW] Minor inconsistency in UI under Appearance with regards to the auto-hide functionality in Saucy

2013-10-24 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

Minor bug. I've noticed that when I toggle on auto hide and toggle it
off under Appearance and under the Behavior tab, I can still adjust
the reveal location and reveal sensitivity even with the option to auto-
hide the launcher toggled off again. Only happens after a toggle on and
off. The behavior should be to grey out the options once disabled again
and not allow the user to select them until the auto-hide option is
enabled again. Running the latest updates on 64 bit Saucy. Screenshots
coming up.

[Bug 1204592] Re: LibreOffice unity menus populate sluggishly the first time

2013-07-26 Thread Mike L
Ditto it effects me. Meaning it probably effects all end users on 4.1
and later versions. Or in the rare case someones ports this bug-creating
patch to an older version. If the bug is simple to fix, please fix it
ASAP. Know you all are busy. In the mean time, I'm going to use some
third-party software (Ubuntu Tweak) to edit the quicklists and see if I
can get a workaround going. If it messes stuff up even worse, I'll write
the results in hopes that it helps you all pinpoint the issue further.
It's all good since I've dug the computer out of WAY deeper holes
before. Plus, this software has a button to reset Unity to defaults.
Have found it extremely useful before.

[Bug 1204592] Re: LibreOffice unity menus populate sluggishly the first time

2013-07-26 Thread Mike L
Found a partial workaround.
(Note this only works for launcher-locked LibreOffice applications. It does not
fix other user accounts nor does it fix unlocked LibreOffice applications).
If anyone has Ubuntu Tweak installed, under the Admin tab is a Quicklists
Editor. There you can see several LibreOffice applications (by default, Writer,
Calc, and Impress) that are in the left-hand column of the program. Click on
them one at a time and simply add the name New Document (without quotes) to
each one. Strangely, the command is already correct. Now, when you are done
with one LO application be sure to click Save. Otherwise progress will be
lost. Do this for each one (by default there are three) and (most) of the
problems from this bug should be alleviated. If anyone else has a better idea
for a workaround (such as a way to edit the quicklists for every LibreOffice
application for every user on the installation), let me know by posting a
comment. I'm sure others will find it useful if they stumble across this post
as well.

[Bug 1196668] Re: VNC crashes on startup on Raring

2013-07-03 Thread Mike L
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Vino-server is what is impacted. I believe what triggers this is related to
customizing via vino-preferences. Afterwards, vino will not launch the server.
A similar bug was reported on Oneiric and older, but I believe the bug report
was marked as invalid due to it not having nearly enough info. The notification
area icon will not stay. It will appear after startup, and quickly disappear.
VNC is COMPLETELY UNUSABLE in every FOSS application I've tried on Ubuntu
13.04. From the GNOME Remote Desktop Client to Remnima, nothing works. Worse
yet, none of the proprietary clients/servers such as Splashtop work either. The
only remote desktop tool working is Teamviewer, and that runs under WINE. So
remote desktop is borked on both my desktop and laptop. I will copy and paste
some debug below:

[Bug 1196668] [NEW] VNC crashes on startup on Raring

2013-07-01 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

/usr/lib/vino/vino-server --sm-disable

I didn't install the Gnome 3 PPA, and I have the same issue. I hate
paperclicp bugs. A lot of them have been rearing their heads recently.

[Bug 1153350] Re: LibreOffice4 Global Menu Items Do Not Highlight on Mouse Hover

2013-05-19 Thread Mike L
Well, it's been about a month. I know there's a ton of bugs on
Launchpad, but when is the Unity Team going to merge this in to Raring's
Unity so the next update will patch this annoyance? Not bugging, but I
would like to know since I cannot even find any other major bugs
affecting me on Raring. This seems like a simple patch but without the
patch, Libreoffice is just plain hard to use. Have to squint to make out
what menu button I'm on. Again sorry for the bugging, but I just want to
see some coordination between the top and the bottom.

[Bug 1176221] Re: Nuvola doesn't load Google Music service, stops at Loading Music Library...

I went through the trouble of making the service update myself.
Hopefully nothing is wrong, but I did create a tarball, installed it,
and it works! What I made out of your code updates is attached.

[Bug 1176221] Re: Nuvola doesn't load Google Music service, stops at Loading Music Library...

2013-05-17 Thread Mike L
I am more than willing to offer a small bounty of $10 to you in donation
money if this bug is fixed. I am not one to bribe, but Play Music has
been completely redesigned and there are bound to be even more than this
in terms of bugs with Play Music. I have donated before and promise to
donate again if this is fixed in a reasonably timely manner. I'm not
going to be ridiculous in my time span, but if possible I'd like to see
this fixed within a few days or weeks if possible. If it takes months,
I'd just like a brief explanation. I know this sounds like a bribe (and
it is), but think of it as a promised donation as well. I rely heavily
on Play Music, and want Nuvola modernized to accommodate that for me and
other users. Thanks. Now, with regards to the other bugs, good luck!
With the most massive update in a year or two, you'll need it.

[Bug 1176221] Re: Nuvola doesn't load Google Music service, stops at Loading Music Library...

2013-05-11 Thread Mike L
No problem, guys. I figured since Google had changed its design as of
late, that would have to have been what was breaking Nuvola. Hopefully
it's a simple fix, since the Google bar is kind of annoying, since it
keeps showing me Google Plus notifications and has all this stuff I
don't want to access from a music player. But I can live with it for a
while, especially since I normally shuffle my music, minimize it, and
press play.

[Bug 1153350] Re: LibreOffice4 Global Menu Items Do Not Highlight on Mouse Hover

2013-04-24 Thread Mike L
Regardless of comments, I don't want an ETA or anything like that
myself. Raring is a very nice release, but this one bug is irking me
just a bit. Take your time fixing it, but it would be nice to know if
it's on the list of stuff to get fixed, and if anyone will eventually be
assigned. I am patient. I just hope it gets fixed eventually. A lot of
you guys are volunteers. And Canonical doesn't have a billion employees.
But large and obnoxious bugs should be assigned eventually. As I said, I
am easily able to wait. I know the Libreoffice globalmenu recently went
through a rehaul. So good luck to all!

2013-04-23 Thread Mike L
+1 For at least assigning the bug. It is making the menu system
unacceptable. Pain in the butt when you want to use Libreoffice whenever
you can to avoid buggy MS products. Now, it seems that MS Office is
smoother than this, until this is fixed. Then Raring would be perfect
for me.

[Bug 1158161] Re: [regression] Unmaximized windows can't be closed, minimized, moved

2013-03-25 Thread Mike L
Fix works great! issue 100% gone. Thanks for the timely fix. Just saying
it's fixed so we can hear it from a human being. The code may be fixed,
but the experience is what matters. Sometimes one thinks a bug is gone
in the code and it can persist. Make sure you log off and back in to get
it working after the update.

[Bug 1158355] [NEW] Unable to grab Windows in Raring

2013-03-21 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

It seems that on occassion, applications such as the File Manager will
not be able to be dragged around by clicking and dragging via the Title
Bar. This bug is almost 100% reproducible with Firefox. This may be a
bug in compiz, Unity, or something else. But I'm betting it's either
compiz or Unity. Just noticed the bug a few days ago on the development
branch of Ubuntu 13.04. Running with the latest updates. This bug has
serious usability concerns. I am, however, able to ALT+click the window
to drag it.

2013-02-14 Thread Mike L
Thanks for testing it out! With all the hard freezing I was ready to
pull my hair out! But development branch is development stability, so I
guess I should have expected issues. I will continue to use this Ubuntu
release until I experience a freeze again. If I don't experience it in a
week or so, and no others experience it again, I will mark the bug as
resolved.

[Bug 1102660] Re: Ubuntu Raring Hard Freezes with AMD Driver

2013-02-13 Thread Mike L
Now that you guys can get the magic SysRq keys to dump a log, and then we can
get the ball rolling. I left plenty of logs, but still we need more. I oddly
don't even have a SysRq key (I have a Microsoft keyboard that comes with its
own funky layout) and I have no clue as to any alternate key commands. When I
went on IRC to debug this mess, the devs told me I need to get more proper
logs. If one of you guys can do it, it will be appreciated and we can make
progress. Anyhow, the links they gave me were to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Triaging#Package_Classification
and also
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging
but I think we just need to debug Xorg if you guys can get the kernel to
respond. You've saved me some bug reporting work! Thank you! Just reference the
first link.

2013-02-09 Thread Mike L
In a way, I'm glad someone else has this problem. I wish nobody had it,
but now we can confirm this bug. That means it's not a hardware issue.
What specific graphics card do you have? I wonder if it's the same
graphics card I have, an AMD Radeon HD 6300. Or does this effect every
graphics card using the radeon driver? Please do investigate.

[Bug 1102660] [NEW] Ubuntu Raring Hard Freezes with AMD Driver

2013-01-21 Thread Mike L
Public bug reported:

This bug is simple to explain, but hard to figure out what specifically
is causing it. While using the computer, Ubuntu will frequently (within
5-10 minutes of use) hard freeze. I am unable to move the mouse, CTRL
ALT F whatever to a virtual terminal, use the keyboard, and the power
button doesn't respond unless I do a hard shutdown. This could be a bug
with the kernel, Xorg, or compiz. Or even something else. I have no clue
to as to what's causing this, so I will upload some log files from
/var/log and provide my kernel version, graphics card, and more system
info if necessary. This courts frequently on raring, but also happened
occasionally on Quantal. But that's another bug report. Every package is
up to date. I noticed this happened only on quantal when I manually
upgraded to the mainline kernel. So it could also be a kernel bug.

[Bug 1051559]

2012-12-24 Thread Mike L
This is probably going to be a royal pain to implement, but alas it is a
necessary evil. I despise the fact that Firefox is going to have to
implement proprietary codecs to stay relevant, but it's better than
having 90% of the videos online not working. As a user and bug tester,
this is indeed a sad day for us. This implementation is especially
important since Adobe only supports Flash for Linux in Pepper form
currently. Last thing I want is to have to reboot into Windows for yet
another thing. I love Linux (any distro) but cannot sacrifice usability
for ideology. Trust me, this will be worth it. We are getting a second
rate experience, thanks Adobe! Oh well. Can't win all the battles out
there but the war for freedom rages on. Just thought I'd deliver the
non-typical power user opinion on this. Sorry if I got off topic. But
the end user would wonder (on any platform) why videos wouldn't work on
Firefox if we didn't support this, and they would likely dump Firefox
for a proprietary browser such as Google Chrome. Best we stay relevant.
Just imagine the consequences on Linux, where a lot of the brainpower
is. Not to insult any other platform's users, but many Linux users are
developers and users. Many Windows and Mac users are just users, with a
few developers here and there. Any implementation to help us stay
relevant is deeply appreciated. End rant.

2012-09-18 Thread Mike L
Basically, it keeps crashing on startup every time. This is a massive
bug for those who are too inexperienced to install via synaptic or the
command line.

[Bug 1052497] Re: software-center crashed with ImportError in get_login_backend(): No module named login_impl.login_sso

2012-09-18 Thread Mike L
Update: With Ubuntu Software Center 5.3.14.1 in Quantal (at least with
me on amd64), it appears there is no longer a startup crash. This update
popped in shortly after I updated my system literally about 5 minutes
after commenting on this bug. Guys, please update your systems now and
see if the bug is still there. It should be gone. If so, we can mark
this bug as fixed.

** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu)

get this error after dsit-upgrading, please change it back to confirmed.

I can confirm that it is specific to Ubuntu. Tested it over IRC with
other Linux distros and the builds from Mozilla's website, but they all
defaulted to HTTPS. Only the builds from the Mozilla Team PPAs refused
to default to HTTPS.
