2009-05-31 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I can confirm this bug, exactly the same as reported by O.S.

Can someone address it? I'm using Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 LTS x86 32 bits.

Thank you.

[Bug 326962] [NEW] /etc/auto.net hangs for a LONG time when NFS server is not accesible and makes other programs unusable

2009-02-08 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

/etc/auto.net hangs for a LONG time when NFS server is not accesible and
makes other programs unusable:

When you try to list a directory with symlinks to a autofs managed NFS
mounted directory, if the server is down, then you have to wait for a
LONG time before the command 'ls' executes. The better is to just kill
the command. The problem comes when it is an application like Gnome or
wine which tries to access that directory from the background: they get
stucked for a LONG time. And wine leaves it before /etc/auto.net
executes 'showmount -e', which is the command that actually renders
everything so slow. But I post this bug here because I think it's a
failure of autofs, rather that showmount, which may have its reasons for
doing this.

There should be a way of doing all this without having to wait for so
long when accessing a file, which is very uncommon on Unix (normally,
you can access, or not, quite fast, so applications are designed with
this in mind). Maybe making the script run on a user's petition through
DBus would be a good idea, then letting the applications acess it, but
when it was already mounted. And, of course, during this you could do
other things. Or maybe just not locking everything until you detect the
server, or adding the option that you can choose the time to wait until
you get the response from the server (but this is actually slow if you
have to repeat an access to the disk many many times, for instance, on a
script). I think that the possibility of having a DBus enabled autofs is
better, just like Network Manager (what a GREAT application) does.

[Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2009-02-04 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I also have the same problem, folks, Ubuntu Hardy, fully upgraded. When
I don't have the NFS in my network, because I move away from that
network, then, when I start Gnome, it hangs very quickly.

I have manually deleted NFS directory (which is mounted with autofs)
from .gtk-bookmarks, everything goes fine now. If I try to examine that
directory from Nautilus, I have to wait, but I'm able to stop it.

I have observed that the problem is that things occur at the background,
with no other choice for the user but to wait until autofs tells the
user that it is impossible to mount the NFS volume. This thing,
apparently, never happens. And so, this task should just be threaded at
the background, thus allowing Gnome-mounter (or the application which
accesses that directory) continue with the job without interrupting all
the system.

It's definitely not a flaw in NFS, since it is not possible to tell that
the server is down, except if you wait for a long amount of time, which
is not acceptable in this case. The only solution is to do this task
asynchronously from within Gnome itself, as KDE obviously does.

Maybe some versions of NFS and autofs wait for a bit shorter doing this
task, but this may be wrong in other situations, and anyways, you still
have to wait that period of time, which is clearly not the correct
thing.

[Bug 313763] [NEW] Very high memory consumption (over 300 megas) and CPU (95% 30 sec) to open a PDF

2009-01-04 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I'm using Ubuntu Hardy on a 32bit machine. The document is a PDF
generated from an HTML file with Firefox, but the same applies to Opera,
Epiphany...

Evince consumes about 350megas of memory, then hangs and I have to wait
30seconds (up to a minute) for getting it to work again. If I move
across the document, or magnify it, or anything else, I have to wait
again, so it's impossible to do any work with it.

I attach both documents, original HTML and generated PDF. Additionally,
I don't understand why the PDF generated is so large.

[Bug 302655] [NEW] BSVC Motorola 68000 simulator needs packaging.

2008-11-26 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

BSVC is a Motorola 68000 simulator for Linux and Windows using TCL/TK
and C++, which is there from ten years ago. Since 2005 it's no longer
mantained, but I have managed to compile it under Linux and even adapt
it to compile under the Debian policies, and package it on a Deb file.
Please, feel free to review new version 2.2, I'm still waiting for
response from it's original author (my thanks go for him for this useful
piece of code). I think it's not yet mature, please, test it, but it
executes as a normal user, so it's not specially dangerous. You can
consider this as a fork, until I get any response. I think many people
could be interested on it, specially at Universities. I'm using it at
Uned, in Spain.

[Bug 288168] [NEW] Canon Pixma iP3000 double-side printing (long edge): fails to print blank pages: they are discarded, even in big documents

2008-10-23 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Hello. I have already filed a bug about this driver not being able to
print double-sided, because a memory leak, some months ago. Now, this
has been fixed, but it still remains a problem:

Put the driver of Pixma iP3000 (gutenprint) as double-sided, long edge,
then print a document with blank pages and written pages inside of it,
and see what happens. You'll see that blank pages are just ignored, and
not printed, but then, white pages glue together, so no blank pages are
produced. This has a drawback, also: the first written page after a
blank page gets printed just after the last written page before it, with
no blank pages in between them. This makes an odd thing happen: this
page gets printed rotated, so they all then became disordered after it.
You have to reprint all the work if you need to have even pages on the
left, and odd ones at the right, for example.

Please, try and see!!

Re: [Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-27 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Yes, I'm sure they can access the files. But upload a video and then
try to play it directly from Samba with Totem (supposedly by streaming
it). That's the problem. And it happened just after upgrading Samba.

2008/6/27 Jamie Strandboge [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Thank you for the smb.conf files. However, I am still not able to
reproduce this. Based on one of the attached smb.conf files, I have
taken a stock smb.conf file, and added the following on a Gutsy server:

 [bug241448]
 path = /tmp
 available = yes
 browsable = yes
 public = yes
 writable = yes

Gutsy clients can access it fine, by using nautilus via Network,
selecting the server and share, or by specifying the share via smb://

I am going to try different combinations.

[Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-20 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I have fully upgraded it except for samba (samba, samba-client,
libsmbclient...), and it works. So you can imagine what causes the
trouble... Some minor change in Samba has made this happen. I only have
to upgrade samba and test, but obviously, it should fail (I'm doing it
when I finish my film).

Good luck! And please, post a fix.

[Bug 241448] [NEW] Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-19 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I was able to play Samba shared files in Totem just clicking on them in
Nautilus until last Ubuntu Hardy upgrade. Now, it's no longer possible
to do so. It gives a resource read error.

It should be reproduced very easily, just open any video from a SMB
server, see what happens.

Any ideas??

I can confirm this bug, I'm suffering from the same problem in Ubuntu Hardy. I
have got it to work with clicks, but no pressure, so still fails (I have tried

wacdump shows pressure is working fine, but still impossible with the Gimp. I
have also sent an email upstream.

[Bug 235260] Re: OpenOffice Writer crashes when resizing a table

2008-05-27 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
For more information, I think it has something to do with when it tries
to download some image from the Internet (it uses some embedded images).
When this happens, at the beginning of the editing process, is when it
hangs, not only when resizing the table, which has maybe nothing to do
with the bug. So it hangs just some seconds before opening, and it's not
necessary to do anything to make it crash.

[Bug 232257] [NEW] Stylesheet: background-image, image... with url(:/[name]) does not load images from Resource files

2008-05-20 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Hi, all!! It's been impossible for me to load an image for a background of any
widget using Stylesheets in qt4-designer.
I attach a basic example, to show it. Take a look at the resource file (image
is correctly seen), but then, no image appears.
I'm also going to attach a screenshot showing the problem.

The thing is: when I put `url([complete path to the image])` then, it works.
But ONLY with the complete path, not with the Resource file.
This is Ubuntu LTS 8.04 Hardy, 32 bit Intel

2008-05-17 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I'm having the same problem. I don't think adding proposed updates is a good

Re: [Bug 231236] Re: libtotem-plparser10 Will not install.

2008-05-17 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Well done, Cutty Shark! :-P

I have already upgraded, fine. Everything's Ok now.

2008/5/17 tgillett [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

I hit the problem when I upgraded two machines from Gutsy to Hardy here
 last night.

I noticed that Brasero, Rythmbox and Movie Player weren't loaded as part
of the upgrade and wouldn't load, amongst other apps. So it has made a
bit of a mess of the upgrade.

After an hour or so trying to work out what was wrong I found this
thread. Thought I would wait till the repository was updated. Tried
again this morning to update/upgrade but no luck.

I realised that I was pointing to a local mirror repository (Australia)
so I changed to the main repository and then it picked up the changed
files and allowed me to install the apps.

So I suspect the impact of the problem will be ongoing until all the
 mirrors are updated.

Just updating the repositories won't fix the parts of the system upgrade
that weren't done. Is the any way to tell what would have been affected
during the upgrade, beyond the couple of apps above?

[Bug 228583] [NEW] Corrupted text when copying files graphically using Nautilus (Spanish es_ES language)

When I try to copy some files with standard Unicode names (like Video.avi,

Re: [Bug 192948] Re: FF Exception for foo2zjs: NEW updated version, supports more printers (like OKI c3300n)

2008-02-26 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Thanks! I'm going to try it, maybe installing Hardy soon.

2008/2/26, Till Kamppeter [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
I have uploaded the new package files to the same place:

  http://www.linux-foundation.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/hardy/foo2zjs/

This time it is really only addition of support for new models plus
  small bug fixes.

I have simply added the new driver files and PPDs for the newly
supported printer models. All driver files and PPDs which were already
there in Hardy are still from the 20071205 snapshot of foo2zjs. So any
printer which worked already at feature freeze for Hardy should continue
  working.

I have also fixed two small bugs in the whole set of drivers (fixes from
  upstream foo2zjs):

  - The filters looked for the CUPS device URI in the environment variable
  DEVICE_URL. Correct is DEVICE_URI.

  - The wrappers called Ghostscript with well-tempered screening in
monochrome mode. This leads to a Ghostscript crash in some cases with
resolution 1200x600 dpi. Now well-tempered screening is used only in
  color mode.

You can find the debdiff, diffstat, build and install logs also at the
  mentioned place.

I have tested the new packages with my HP LaserJet 1020 and I have also
printed into a file with the driver for the Oki printers. Both tests
  showed correct results.

Néstor Amigo Cairo, please check whether this package makes also your
  Oki printer working.

[Bug 193232] [NEW] Remote Samba shares not showing up in Nautilus through network:///

2008-02-19 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

I'm having the same problems as in this closed bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/26933
The thing is that I open Nautilus, browse my Samba Network and it's empty. I
can connect directly to the server, but it does not get listed. Also, sometimes
they show up, but when I click on a Samba service, for example, to IP
192.168.0.2, a message tells me that I have to open it with some program,
because it's not a link!! (WTF). Then, it gets previewed as a text file.

I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy, 32bit for clients; server is a SuSE 10.2, Samba.
Windows Vista clients get it listed when I browse the network.
We're trying to switch to Linux in the company I work for, but we're having
trouble with Samba, so people's getting a bit angry.

Sometimes servers get listed, then I try to connect to them, but it's
impossible, because I'm not asked any password, nor user. It just gets empty
again.
I'm going to try to debug it someway (please, tell me how), and post some
screenshots.

[Bug 26933] Re: Browsing SAMBA shares impossible

2008-02-18 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I'm getting exactly the same problems on Ubuntu Gutsy: empty
network:///, but I can connect directly to the server. Sometimes no
password/user is asked, but then nothing is shown... The best I can get
is just that: connecting directly, putting in password user. Sometimes
things get detected, sometimes not. And sometimes, many shortcuts
appear, but when I try to open them (like smb:///KAMALEON), it tries to
open them with a notepad.

I'm going to attach some screenshot when possible.

Re: [Bug 182981] Re: Please, upgrade gimp-print to version 5.0.2 for a BIG bugfix

2008-02-12 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I would say this is a bug [Bugs] which may, under realistic
circumstances, directly cause a loss of user data, because it hung up
my computer completely (and imagine what may happen if you are doing
something important while printing). Maybe even better, imagine what
could happen if that was a printing server. And it only applies to
gutenprint drivers (5.0.0, not 4.x branch), so no Dapper updates
needed, only Gutsy.

Thanks!!

2008/2/12, Henrik Nilsen Omma [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Hardy now contains gutenprint 5.0.2. For Gutsy and older it is
unfortunately not appropriate to do an SRU for it at this point. See:

[Bug 185365] Re: Bad artifacts at the border of screen with ATI Radeon 7000VE at 1440x900

2008-01-31 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I got it solved. It's enough to add:
Option DDCMode on
to xorg.conf

Now it detects the correct modes, and applies them automatically.

Thanks!!

[Bug 185365] Bad artifacts at the border of screen with ATI Radeon 7000VE at 1440x900

2008-01-23 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I'm using Ubuntu Dapper 6.06.2 LTS with latest updates.
I have a Radeon 7000 on a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz CPU. When I start up my X server, I
get some corruption on screen, just in the left edge, about 20 pixel wide. I
was trying to use it at 1440x900, 24 bit color. Also, screen gets some strange
green color. I have not observed this corruption in a Debian Stable system,
installed in the same hardware (we have many computers). It's not the hardware,
since it works on Windows. I have also tried my screen in another computer,
it's Ok. I has to have something to do with the driver, which has been fixed in
Debian. I have to put some lower resolution, then everything works fine, but
not at maximum screen resolution (1440x900). I don't change refresh rate, it's
always at 55-60Hz.

I have the following monitor:
Hanns-G HW173A (TFT, 1440x900 maximum)

I have the following hardware (lspci):

[Bug 177805] Scribus does not work with accented characters when writing into a text box

2007-12-20 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scribus

Just install scribus, create a new project, insert a new text frame, and
try to write into it. When you type accented characters, like à, á, â,
what you get is 'a, `a, ^a, and so on... I cannot get it working, I
don't know why. And also, I don't see all the character fonts, just some
of them. When I use some Gnome application, I can select a lot more
fonts than with Scribus. That's why?? Thanks

Re: [Bug 173067] Re: Client Doesn't Inherit Keyboard Settings from Server

2007-12-18 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I'm not a developer, I'm just a user... and that's true, it's better
to find on Google first, not only that, the best anybody can do is to
try to solve it for his/herself, and later publishing the patch for
others to use it, if it's possible. If it isn't possible, the best is
to have someone reproducing the bug, but it's usually harder (I
haven't been able to). So, if you could solve it by yourself (I'm sure
you can), it would be nice that you published it so others can do the
same, and eventually it could be included in some way on Linux...

I know some russian hackers here at Spain that love that way of
working, in spite of some [american] enterprises...

Greetings!

Ok, then, create:
/var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf
(change i386 for other architecture if needed)
and then, read:
http://doc.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/handbook/C/ltsp-client.html
When you're done, add:

[...]

For now, setting a LTSP server is not a trivial thing. As usual with
software, it is necessary to read the documentation, which is hard to
write, before submitting a bug. Maybe in the future, setting a LTSP
server will be automatic, but not for now. (BTW, doing common things
is usually a trivial thing in Ubuntu, which wasn't so trivial in the
past).

I like to think about it the following way: with Free Software, like
Ubuntu and Linux are, we take an active part in the development,
meaning that we have the freedom to use it, but, please, remember that
you can get this for free, BECAUSE many many people are spending their
time in developing things, reading and writing documentation, and so
on, and usually they don't get a Euro for it (nor do I). Applied to
this case: why not going to the Edubuntu wiki, and changing the
Documentation, adding this particular piece of information more
clearly? You are completely free to do so, and even encouraged by
Ubuntu folks. You can be one of those who made Ubuntu (and Free
Software) be what is will be in some years. And be patient, please,
freedom exists, but usually is not what we are taught at school, long
is the path ;-)

So, please, read the documentation (and change it if needed) before
sending bugs. I think that your problem is only having the wrong
configuration on the client. And server and client configurations have
nothing to do, you can have your sever working perfectly, but your
client not, if you don't create the proper configuration file, and set
it properly, reading the documentation mentioned above.

Re: [Bug 173067] Re: Client Doesn't Inherit Keyboard Settings from Server

2007-12-16 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
BTW, I have been googling, and found this:
http://www.gnome.org/learn/users-guide/2.14/prefs-keyboard.html
On:
http://www.gnome.org/learn/
you can find more information about Gnome, if you want to configure
Alt-Shift to change your keyboard's layout (or change it in any other
way), but (as I suspect) you don't have it in the client, just in the
server. So you should be able to change your keyboard's layout, if you
have it properly configured on the client, and that's a desktop usage
thing, not a bug, again. If you're able to change it. If you cannot
change it, then, it should be a [strange] bug, but it should be
further studied. Anyways, it sound me like you haven't read the
documentation...

Try that, see if you can change the keyboard layout any other way
(there are lots of ways to do this), create configuration files and so
on (you can default Russian language for your keyboard with cyrillic
characters and so on), if not, then it should be considered a bug.

Good luck!

2007-12-14 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Ok! You have to change lts.conf, usually in
/var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf (version Gutsy 7.10), and add the
following line:
XKBLAYOUT=[language]
where [language] can be es, en, fr, de...

2007/12/14, DenisM [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

After booting from distribution CD (Classroom Server) I press F2 and
 choose Russian language.
At the next screen I choose Alt-Shift (default) for toggling between
 layouts.
After installation completes I login at server console and run terminal.
Here I type any text in English, then press Alt-Shift and now type in
 Russian.
Now I logout from the console and boot a client. I login at the client and
run terminal. Here I type in English, then press Alt-Shift and type... in
 English again.
Being at the client I run System/Preferences/Keyboard and see that there
is no Group Shift/Lock behavior defined on Layout Options tab.

Re: [Bug 173067] Re: Client Doesn't Inherit Keyboard Settings from Server

2007-12-14 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
What version of Edubuntu are you using? Maybe you have to manually create
the file, if you don't have it. Of course, make sure that is the proper
location (you might change i386 for x86_64, for example). The old place
where it was located was /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf, if I'm right, but now
that's not the recommended thing.
You can try Gnome Menu:
System - Preferences - Keyboard - Distribution
And choose the correct one for your client.
But you must be sure you put that line in your lts.conf, this is the first
step to do, if not, I'm not sure you'll have the proper layout available.
There are good howto's on Gnome, X.org and LTSP that might be helpful for
you. I recommend you take a look at them. It's not usually a good thing not
to read the documentation before asking, since you depend on other people,
that may or may not be available at the time. GNU/Linux Edubuntu is plenty
of igood Howto's, guides and so on.
You could start at www.edubuntu.org, section Documentation.

2007/12/14, DenisM [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

May be I wasn't clear enough - I do have BOTH layouts at the client (in
spite of absent lts.conf), but I haven't a way to switch between them.

Re: [Bug 173244] Re: Gnome not logging out with Edubuntu LTSP as a thin client

2007-12-12 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I have to take a look tomorrow, then. BTW, now, it's working, so I'm going
to try it another way (maybe in a VirtualBox) if I have to misconfigure
something.
I'll take a look at the error log, to see if there's something wrong. Ok, I
can test it a bit further, but I'm afraid it will stop working again, since
it's for working.
One thing: is it normal that when you log in, when the gnome panel appears,
it shows a green-man logo, and then shows the other one as the Log-out
icon?? (the door with the arrow). It seems like something is getting on
top of it, or that the Theme changes automatically, since I have realized
that some icons change 2 seconds after logging in, just after they get
loaded for the first time. Maybe it has something to do with the other
thing.
Thanks!!!

2007-12-11 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I got this solved. The problem was I had gdm installed and up on the server.
I removed gdm from the server, and it worked again perfectly. Can this be
possible?? Would it be possible to mask gdm package and block it from
installing on Edubuntu?? Because it messes up everything. BTW, would it be
possible to put an advice on this, for example, on installation?

I don't know how it could get installed, it's even possible I installed it
unadvertedly.
Thanks!!

options: log out, change user and switch off). Anyways, it doesn't do
anything, just stops when I press the button.
I have tried with different users, the best thing I get is the dialog
appearing, but no luck at shutting computer down.
Something has changed in the last updates, I think, that has made it stop
 working.

2007-12-07 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I also have a problem. I have a X1250 on a AMD690 Chipset based motherboard

use fglrx driver. Then, it just freezes as soon as X.org starts. I have to
manually uninstall the driver from safe-mode and reboot.
Maybe there's a problem with drivers, I think there's a new version with better
quality from ATI/AMD. It doesn't give any error message, just freezes.
There's no way to make it work with 3D accel.

[Bug 173244] Gnome not logging out with Edubuntu LTSP as a thin client

2007-12-01 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I log in into Gnome via LTSP client, no problem. I can execute applications
perfectly. I have been always able to log out then, and session ended with no
problem. But since I updated Edubuntu 7.10 with the latest patches, I couldn't
do it anymore.
When I press log out, nothing appears. Then, I'm not able to open any
application other than Firefox, as far as I know. No error message is printed
out. I have to manually switch off computer. It doesn't work, no matter which
user is selected.
Then, if I switch on computer again, I'm able to log in again using LTSP, but
the same error appears when trying to exit.
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace works stopping session, but then GDM is not starting again,
so that's the reason why I posted bug here.
Thanks!!

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
