It is possible to hide cover art by disabling the cover art plugin. Is
this bug still valid (since it is possible to hide the art) or would it
be a bug because the option to hide the art is not easily discoverable?
Personally I do not think this is a bug, I think it's just a matter of

The Hardy Alpha 1 Release Notes do not give links to Daily and Daily-
Live CD builds. As later CDs solve testing problems (not being able to
boot, no xorg, etc.), giving links should help reduce the number of bugs
