I found a fix for bug #1758428 and updated the issue. It's related to
the use of PrivateTmp=yes in the service file.
Since this is a backport from 18.04, I expect the same issue there, and

I was able to to reproduce a similar issue by trying to use ListFilesInGuest in
/tmp. We found that the issue can be fixed by commenting out the option
PrivateTmp=yes
under [Services] in /lib/systemd/system/open-vm-tools.service and the commands
# systemctl daemon-reload
# systemctl restart open-v
We do see weird issues with that build similar to bug #1758428, so
please hold on with the upload.

I must correct my post #77: The X200 now shows the bug, but differently.
There is no blank screen, but the last screen before hibernation is
visible. Other than that, the system is absolutely frozen as in the
other cases. So this is an example of a pre-i3 processor with the bug
being present.

Slow down a little, and think about what you are saying:

debian is already on 5.1.19.
The only thing i did was a diff of ext2fs-c.c between the 5.1.19 and the
5.1.14 .applied the patch and
recreated the deb packages for the 16.04 LTS.

I have Linux Mint 18.2 Xfce 64-bit with some KDE applications installed
(K3B, dolphin). I get this crash since yesterday, but not reproducibly,
when using dolphin or libreoffice 5.3.

installing ubuntu-desktop package on ubuntu-server breaks wlan-config
in netplan
