[Bug 301257] Re: NetworkManager slows down skype

2009-01-26 Thread Oxenfrogga
Hm, I made some tests and are not any more sure that this problem is due
to Network Manager, moreover NM (like all the other processes)
contributes to the work load and this pretty old machine is propably
simply overloaded.

I'm sorry ... I would suggest closing this thread and I would reopen it
as soon as I find better evidence.

Thanks,
Harald

[Bug 292900] Re: webcam-server returns the error No supported colour palette found. - needs v4l2 support

2008-12-18 Thread Oxenfrogga
Just the solution for people suffering the same problem. Type
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
on the command line to prior to launching webcam-server. That will invoke the
compatibility mode and will run webcam-server with intrepid.

Thank,
Harald

[Bug 301257] [NEW] NetworkManager slows down skype

2008-11-23 Thread Oxenfrogga
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi folks,

I recently upgraded my girlfriend's laptop to Intrepid.
Afterwards I found out that when we're talking via skype the quality of the
connection from her to me is a lot worse than before (sometimes I could hear
just noise). The problem persisted all the time (reboots, different days, ...)
but vanished after
$ sudo update-rc.d -f NetworkManager  remove
and editing /etc/network/interfaces by hand, followed by a reboot. Besides the
sky application she could not find any other problems related to internet
connections.

I have to add that she's having a WLan-card which was enabled, but not
connected. Her internet connection was established via cable and the
XUbuntu installation is not a fresh one, but some 1,5 years old, but
always up-to-date. Additionally, I have to admit that the computer is an
old one, lspci gives:

00:0a.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01)
00:12.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 74)

In a way the problem is solved, but not in a satisfying way ...

Please contact me if you need new information!

Thanks,
Harald

[Bug 111257] Re: totem crashes with 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)' when using compiz and xserver-xorg-video-intel driver

2007-10-15 Thread Oxenfrogga
Hi Thom,

maybe you have xserver-xgl installed? I had it installed and I simply
did not know (probably I just forgot) -- and searched really REALLY long
for the reason for my crashes with glxgears and the damned slow display.

Isn't there a way to keep Intel users away from that package?

Ciao,
Harald

Hi folks,

I can confirm that behaviour for todays gutsy. I can add some

* I experience this behaviour since I encrypted the 2nd partition two

tried that last week last time. My USB pendrive works without problems
(fat32).

sudo /etc/init.d/hal restart

I'll attach -- like Alec -- the output of what was asked for in

[Bug 139852] Re: changing of user not possible

2007-09-16 Thread Oxenfrogga
Hi Chris,

I rather think that it is an issue of the old server not shutting down
correctly. What I tried is:

* booting and logging in into XFCE
* log out
* shutting down the X server
   - /etc/init.d/xdm stop
* logging in as root into the console (yes, I have a root user)
* checking if the old user is still logged in with
   - users
   the answer is
   root
* trying to log into another user fails like described above. But even without
any X server running the file /tmp/.X1-lock exists

By the way: On my laptop I can choose from two video cards -- this time
I tried it with my Intel 915GM card. But I have stille some nvidia
packages installed:

oxi:~ dpkg -l|grep -i nvidia

Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver
ii nvtv 0.4.7-5ubuntu1

oxi:~

I hope that does not confuse even more!

Thanks and good night!

[Bug 139852] changing of user not possible

2007-09-15 Thread Oxenfrogga
Public bug reported:

Hello everyone,

as I've installed this package the package guidance-backends is
installed as a dependency, which causes an error. Unfortunately, I'm not
clever enough to report an error on this package directly bacause I
can't find it in launchpad ... If I'm doing a big mistake by reporting
this error here, please forgive me and give me a hint how to do it
correctly! Thanks for this, first of all.

The thing is this: I'm running xubuntu gutsy (but it happens with gnome,
too) with xdm (but it happens with gdm, either), compiz, nvidia 6600 on
my laptop. In one sentence: The problem is that I can't log in into
another user after logging out the first user. In more detail:

After booting the machine I can log in normally. After a log out and
killing the X server by

/etc/init.d/xdm stop

and creating a new user by

useradd -m test
passwd test

and restarting the xdm:

/etc/init.d/xdm restart

I got my display manager working again. Trying to log in with the user
test does not work; xdm vanishes and gives rise to the blank X-screen
with the X-shaped mouse cursor and this nice dotty screen. After half a
minute, the X server is killed and xdm is restarted again automatically.

The command

cat /home/test/.xsession-error

gives:

Xsession: X session started for tst at Sa 15. Sep 23:27:01 CEST 2007
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/40guidance-displayconfig_restore: 11:
/usr/bin/displayconfig-restore: not found
Checking for nVidia: present.
xauth: (argv):1: bad add command line
Starting Xgl with options: -accel xv:fbo -accel glx:pbuffer -nolisten tcp
-fullscreen -br +xinerama

Fatal server error:
Could not create server lock file: /tmp/.X1-lock

xmodmap: unable to open display ':1'

(x-session-manager:8353): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
**

That's the relationship to this bug.

apt-cache search displayconfig-restore

does not give any result. If try to log in my first user, everything is
working fine again. If after a fresh restart I log in with the test
user, it is working ok and I can't log in with my normal user until I
restart the machine. If I kill the xdm, the file /tmp/.X1-lock is still
there. Deleting it manually does not give better results.

Thanks for listening! Please let me know if I can do something more,
Harald

What else do you need?

[Bug 134747] Re: f-spot does not call the gimp every time

2007-08-26 Thread Oxenfrogga
Ok, thank you Aanjhan for dealing with that topic so fast. I've got
news to tell:

First of all, I forgot to tell that I'm using XFCE as desktop
environment.

Secondly, while reproducing this behaviour another time (which works!) I
experienced that this got something to do with the way of selecting the
menu entry! Right click on the picture and selecting the entry by
keyboard (in opposition to using the mouse completly!) changes
everything: It works every time.

This time I even build it from source by myself. No difference.

I also add the file you asked for. It is the output of ps asx.

Please tell me if you need more info or whatever!

Thanks from
Harald

[Bug 134971] export to cd does not work

2007-08-26 Thread Oxenfrogga
Public bug reported:

Hi everyone,

I just experienced an error with exporting my pictures to cd in f-spot
0.4.0 in xubuntu gutsy. It goes like this:

* select a photo
* go to file - export - export to cd; a create cd dialog pops up.
* click ok. The program gives an error report and stops (but it does not
crash!).

This seems to happen every time. I tried different pictures, too. No
change.

The error report says:

[Bug 134744] Unable to build xine-lib from source

Hello everyone,

right now I'm running gutsy. Trying to build xine-lib from source an

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables FFMPEG_CFLAGS
and FFMPEG_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

So I guess there is just a small error with the building information concerning
libavcodec. I did not change any pathes or whatever.

If you need further information, please let me know!

Thanks a lot,
Harald

[Bug 134747] f-spot does not call the gimp every time

2007-08-25 Thread Oxenfrogga
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Hi everyone,

I'm running up-to-date gutsy and found an annoying bug. It happens most
times, but not every time. Pretty funny.

It works like this:

* start f-spot
* I open up my picture database
* right click - modify in the gimp works like expected
* I does not matter if you close the gimp or not
* right click on a picture - modify in the gimp - nothing happens

The last step may happen or not happen, depending on the mood of my
computer. But most times he is in a bad mood.

I can open the picture every time f-spot is freshly restarted. The CLI
gives no special output.

By the way: it is not an issue of the gimp, because it behaves the same
when you choose eog instead of the gimp.

Thank you all very much,
Harald

[Bug 61842] removing ubuntu-minimal leaves system in a unbootable state

2006-09-22 Thread Oxenfrogga
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-minimal

Hello everyone,

one could say that it's not really a bug but stupidity but I would say
it's a bug: In order to delete vim-tiny (because I don't use it) I
removed ubuntu-minimal, too, using aptitude. Without any further
qustions packages like upstart, tasksel, ... were deleted, too, which
are essential for booting the system, leaving it all in a unbootable
state.

It's not hard at all to repair it using a live-cd, but I'd recommend to
prevent people from deleting it by asking the are you
serious???!!-question.

Thanks,
Oxenfrogga
