[Bug 301257] Re: NetworkManager slows down skype
Hm, I made some tests and are not any more sure that this problem is due to Network Manager, moreover NM (like all the other processes) contributes to the work load and this pretty old machine is propably simply overloaded. I'm sorry ... I would suggest closing this thread and I would reopen it as soon as I find better evidence. Just the solution for people suffering the same problem. Type export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so on the command line to prior to launching webcam-server. [Bug 301257] [NEW] NetworkManager slows down skype
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Hi folks, I recently upgraded my girlfriend's laptop to Intrepid. Afterwards I found out that when we're talking via skype the quality of the connection from her to me is a lot worse than before (sometimes I could hear just noise). The problem persisted all the time (reboots, different days, ...) but vanished after $ sudo update-rc.d -f NetworkManager remove and editing /etc/network/interfaces by hand, followed by a reboot. Besides the sky application she could not find any other problems related to internet connections. I have to add that she's having a WLan-card which was enabled, but not connected. Her internet connection was established via cable and the XUbuntu installation is not a fresh one, but some 1,5 years old, but always up-to-date. Additionally, I have to admit that the computer is an old one, lspci gives: 00:0a.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01) 00:12.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 74) In a way the problem is solved, but not in a satisfying way ... Please contact me if you need new information! Hi Chris, I rather think that it is an issue of the old server not shutting down correctly. [Bug 139852] changing of user not possible
Public bug reported: Hello everyone, as I've installed this package the package guidance-backends is installed as a dependency, which causes an error. Unfortunately, I'm not clever enough to report an error on this package directly bacause I can't find it in launchpad ... If I'm doing a big mistake by reporting this error here, please forgive me and give me a hint how to do it correctly! Thanks for this, first of all. The thing is this: I'm running xubuntu gutsy (but it happens with gnome, too) with xdm (but it happens with gdm, either), compiz, nvidia 6600 on my laptop. In one sentence: The problem is that I can't log in into another user after logging out the first user. In more detail: After booting the machine I can log in normally. After a log out and killing the X server by /etc/init.d/xdm stop and creating a new user by useradd -m test passwd test and restarting the xdm: /etc/init.d/xdm restart I got my display manager working again. Trying to log in with the user test does not work; xdm vanishes and gives rise to the blank X-screen with the X-shaped mouse cursor and this nice dotty screen. After half a minute, the X server is killed and xdm is restarted again automatically. The command cat /home/test/.xsession-error gives: Xsession: X session started for tst at Sa 15. If try to log in my first user, everything is working fine again. If after a fresh restart I log in with the test user, it is working ok and I can't log in with my normal user until I restart the machine. If I kill the xdm, the file /tmp/.X1-lock is still there. Deleting it manually does not give better results. Thanks for listening! [Bug 69373] Re: It was importing about 20000 photos from my ntfs hard disk when crached
Perhaps I found a related (or exactly the same) bug. I imported much less photos (ca. 100) when the application crashed. It does not happen often. [Bug 61842] removing ubuntu-minimal leaves system in a unbootable state
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-minimal Hello everyone, one could say that it's not really a bug but stupidity but I would say it's a bug: In order to delete vim-tiny (because I don't use it) I removed ubuntu-minimal, too, using aptitude. Without any further qustions packages like upstart, tasksel, ... were deleted, too, which are essential for booting the system, leaving it all in a unbootable state. It's not hard at all to repair it using a live-cd, but I'd recommend to prevent people from deleting it by asking the are you serious???!!-question. Thanks, Oxenfrogga ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- removing ubuntu-minimal leaves system in a unbootable state https://launchpad.net/bugs/61842 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
