[Bug 1873658] Re: Deb Files are not associated with an application that manages packages

2020-04-24 Thread Peter Jones
Just to confirm, I'm using pure Ubuntu 20.04 and not any of the
flavours. I'm happy to assist in any testing of the flavours if you
would like me to. Just let me know.

[Bug 1831156] [NEW] samsung clp-680nd does not print duplex

2019-05-30 Thread Peter Jones
Public bug reported:

My Samsung CLP-680ND printer is set up on a wired network. It works
correctly from a Windows 10 laptop, printing duplex (double sided)
pages. On Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10 it does not print duplex although the
option can be selected on the print dialogue. Otherwise printing is OK.

It used to work but I don't know which upgrade broke it.

Re: [Bug 1782585] Re: nautilus slice error copying files

2018-07-22 Thread Peter Jones
Hi Daniel,

It can't be a USB fault as copying is fine using 'cp' at a terminal and
the error occurs copying to hard disk in nautilus. As attached.
Triggering the error does not write anything to dmesg.

Regards,

Peter Jones

[Bug 1782605] [NEW] clp-680nd duplex

2018-07-19 Thread Peter Jones
Public bug reported:

I have a networked Samsung CLP-680ND printer.

Until recently the duplex option worked fine on both Windows 10 and
Ubuntu 16.04.

Since installing Ubuntu 18.04 (over 16.04 , the upgrade did not work)
duplex no longer works under ubuntu, using LibreOffice, pdf or lpr.The
option appears in the cups log file. Windows 10 is ok.

Additionally 'no of copies'is ok with pdf file but ignored with LibreOffice.

N.B. The printer is working 'driverless'

[Bug 1782585] [NEW] nautilus slice error copying files

2018-07-19 Thread Peter Jones
Public bug reported:

When copying certain files under Nautilus a 0 byte file is created and
error 'Error splicing file: Input/output error' is reported. It is not
clear what sort of drives are affected but it certainly occurs copying

[Bug 1262329] [NEW] Large file read errors with cifs

2013-12-18 Thread Peter Jones
Public bug reported:

This relates to reading files from a Netgear NAS server on a local
network. I am running on a desktop PC, originally with ubuntu 12.x
subsequently updated to 13.10.

Under 12.x I mounted sections of the NAS server as Windows shares using
samba and everything worked fine.

When I upgraded to 13.10 (via 13.04?) I found that the NAS was not
mounting. On investigation I found that samba was no longer supported
and that I should use cifs. The was no warning that this was going to
happen before or during the upgrade.

The shares mounted OK and things were fine with normal docs. However
with photos and large files reading failed with errors like
'Input/output error. Transfers were fine on other pcs connected to the
NAS server. The error occurs both with nautilus and cp in a bash shell.
Sometime it is OK on a reboot but soon becomes corrupt.

On searching for possible solutions there seemed to be one possibility
related to 'optimistic locking' but I could not make it work.

The mount instructions in /etc/fstab are of the form:

//nas1/photos /media/photos_nas1 cifs sec=ntlm,credentials=/home/peter/.nas1cred
entials,uid=1000,gid=1000,cache=none

[Bug 1232191] [NEW] Bug reporting fails to find webpage

2013-09-27 Thread Peter Jones
Public bug reported:

Im using Beta 2 of 13.10. Rhythmbox brought up an error when I tried to

Firstly Firefox did not open automatically and secondly when I did open
FireFox it opened the following page:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1199159

This page says the bug does not exist.

I hope this helps?

Kind regards

Peter Jones

[Bug 583172] Re: cups lose configuration

2013-01-16 Thread Peter Jones
I experience this in 12.04 LTS and it is associated with boot failures.
I periodically get (currently unresolved) boot failures. After a failure
I have to restore printers.conf from .O version.
