[Bug 1019842] Re: xorg segfaults when waking from suspend

2014-01-06 Thread Petri Lehtinen
I changed from Xubuntu desktop to the default Ubuntu desktop, and that
fixed the problem. I don't have Xubuntu installed anymore, so I'm unable
to test.

Attaching a debdiff that incorporates the patch in the upstream bug

work perfectly. I haven't got a single error message from munin, while

[Bug 672953] Re: rsyslog stops writing to fifo on HUP

2011-04-08 Thread Petri Lehtinen
I asked from the upstream author if this is known issue, and he said
this:

Ubuntu drops privileges, but their config is often not really up
to that. Keep running as root for a test and check if the problem
re-occurs. I guess not.

So I commented out the $PrivDropToUser and $PrivDropToGroup lines from
/etc/rsyslog.conf and the problem disappeared. The next thing is to
solve how the config should be made up to dropping privileges to avoid
this issue.

@William Hidden: Have you reported a separate bug for you problem? Could
you try if running as root helps to your issues, too?

[Bug 672953] Re: rsyslog stops writing to fifo on HUP

2011-04-08 Thread Petri Lehtinen
It seems that this was partly my mistake, as the permissions of the fifo
file were wrong. But this means that rsyslog opened the fifo before
dropping privileges and was thus able to open it as root. When the HUP
signal is sent, reopening the fifo fails because rsyslog is no longer
run as root.

This is a known issue, and there's more info here:
http://wiki.rsyslog.com/index.php/Security#Dropping_Privileges. It seems
that the privilege dropping has not been implemented in a very secure
manner.

[Bug 660483] Re: CouchDB 1.0.1 must depends by libjs-jquery = 1.4.2

2011-04-05 Thread Petri Lehtinen
Test case:

1. Open the CouchDB web interface in your browser:
http://localhost:5984/_utils/

2. Open any database by clicking its name (the built-in _users
database, for example).

3. Click the Compact Cleanup link near the top of the page.

4. A popup appears. Select the Compact Database radio button (if not
already selected) and click Run.

Error outcome: An alert box appears, with the following text: The
database could not be compacted: Content-Type must be application/json.

Expected outcome: The popup disappears, and the database compaction
begins. If the database is large enough (a few hundred megabytes), you
may be quick enough to see a corresponding Database Compaction line in
the table on the status page (click the Status link on the right pane
below the CouchDB logo to get to the status page).

If you still get the error outcome with the fix, please force-refresh
the page (Shift-Ctrl-R on Firefox) and try again. This is to make sure
that your browser really loads the newer jQuery.

[Bug 660483] Re: CouchDB 1.0.1 must depends by libjs-jquery = 1.4.2

2011-04-04 Thread Petri Lehtinen
To repeat, this is only a problem in the backported Lucid package. The
problem is that Lucid has too old jQuery. CouchDB ships a newer jQuery
but it's not used but symlinked to the system jQuery instead. The
easiest fix would be to not symlink to the system jQuery, even though
lintian warns about this.

This is a very frustrating bug as Futon (the web UI of CouchDB) is
almost unusable. It seems to depend quite heavily on features of the
newer jQuery.

2011-03-15 Thread Petri Lehtinen
No. My system didn't have the postgres user before installation. I can
reproduce this problem like this:

apt-get purge --auto-remove postgresql*; deluser postgres; apt-get
install postgresql

The error message is exactly the same. Invoking apt-get -f install
finishes the installation properly.

[Bug 735341] Re: adduser creates expired system user

2011-03-15 Thread Petri Lehtinen
I had a look at postgresql-common's postinst, and tried to invoke the
same command it uses to add the user (just changed the user name):

$ sudo adduser --system --quiet --home /var/lib/postgresql --no-create-home
--shell /bin/bash --group --gecos PostgreSQL administrator testuser
Your account has expired; please contact your system administrator
chfn: PAM authentication failed
adduser: `/usr/bin/chfn -f PostgreSQL administrator testuser' returned error
code 1. Exiting.

If I remove the --gecos option, it works fine:

$ sudo adduser --system --quiet --home /var/lib/postgresql --no-create-home
--shell /bin/bash --group testuser
$ echo $?
0

If I run the chfn command manually, it fails:

$ sudo /usr/bin/chfn -f PostgreSQL administrator testuser
Your account has expired; please contact your system administrator
chfn: PAM authentication failed

So I think this might be a problem in passwd rather than adduser.

1.7.4 is already in natty.

To get the security issues fixed in Maverick or older Ubuntu versions,
someone would need to backport the security patches to older encfs

[Bug 154271] Re: xenU sending too big packets

2010-11-18 Thread Petri Lehtinen
Actually, on xenU, issuing the commands

ethtool -K eth0 tx off
ethtool -K eth0 tx on

fixes the problem too, so changing the tx offloading back to on doesn't
break it again.

And the real problem here is that xenU keeps sending big packets even
though it gets the fragmentation needed info. I don't have a tcpdump to
copy-paste at hand right now, but for me it looked like this:

xenU target: length 2948
firewall xenU: ICMP fragmentatinon needed
xenU destination: length 1480
target xenU: ACK
xenU target: length 2948
firewall xenU: ICMP fragmentatinon needed

So xenU is sending too big packets over and over again, and firewall has
to ask it to fragment them each time. And this hurts performance REALLY
hard.

[Bug 672953] [NEW] rsyslog stops writing to fifo on HUP

Actually, the i8042.nomux parameter is not enough. Sometimes it works,

[Bug 441806] Re: Menu items do not always appear in the same order

2009-10-05 Thread Petri Lehtinen
I haven't noticed that the ordering of the actual menu items change but
the two separators change place. Sometimes they are both at the bottom,
sometimes the other one is between New Session and Logout and the
other one is at the bottom. This can also be seen in Christop Korns
screenshots. And I'm using English UI, if that matters.
