My microphone doesn't work, too. I've just installed Kubuntu 6.10 i386
on a vaio vgn-sz4mn, and I made immediately a complete update, so it
doesn't seem a problem related to obsolete drivers.

suddenly the machine is able to complete also wifi connections. It does
not matter whether the wired network remains plugged or not before
