I confirm the problem with versions 0.3.1-4 (hardy) and 0.3.1-4ubuntu0.1 (hardy-updates). [Bug 500520] [NEW] Some essential services are not started
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: upstart Since a few weeks ago, some essential services are no longer started at bootup. I noticed that the following (and probably many more) services are not running after a reboot: - cupsd - sshd - atd - ...? They can be manually started using service or start/stop, but they are not started automatically at boot time. This means, I cannot connect to my box after a reboot, because sshd is not running, and my scheduled jobs don't run, because atd isn't there, etc. Those services have worked reliably in the past, and I don't know what actually happened. I suspect that it's related to upstart, but I'm not sure. It looks a rather general problem to me, as it seems to affect a lot of services. Thank you Heineken. Downgrading to upstart 0.6.3-10 solved the issue for me, too. [Bug 885204] Re: Recommending proprietary driver on hybrid systems can break 3D
Well done! But this is rather a bug on th side of the nvidia driver. It's not so unusual to have several X drivers installed. Another example besides systems with two graphics cards is a (real) X client/server setup: Say you have (like us) a server and several different thin clients making X connections across the network, the server needs to have the X drivers for all the graphics cards of the different clients installed (at least if you want to have graphics acceleration via GLX). Now, if one of the clients happens to have an nvidia card, the server needs to run the nvidia X server to get acceleration for this client. This breaks acceleration for all clients with other graphics cards. This is a huge problem in, for example, the Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP). Since the real cause is the broken nvidia driver, is there any chance of asking the guys at NVidia to fix this? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/885204 Title: Recommending proprietary driver on hybrid systems can break 3D To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jockey/+bug/885204/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 938792] Re: starting gparted with pkexec fails
Indeed, there is! Thank you for pointing this out. My home directory is mounted via nfs. For security reasons, nfs by default does not allow root access to the exported shares -- when root tries to write to a nfs share, the user and group is changed to nobody:nogroup. (This is called root squashing) Apparently pkexec tries to write to my home directory as the root user, and this fails, since nfs changes the user to nobody, who cannot write to my home. Solution: When I turn off this security feature and allow root access via nfs, everything works fine. Still I wonder why pkexec tries to write to my home as root? Do you know what it's trying to do? Anyway. this may well by an issue of policykit, not gparted at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/938792 Title: starting gparted with pkexec fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gparted/+bug/938792/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 838091] Re: should link fsck.ntfs - ntfsfix/ntfsck
1) This problem will affect all users that have ntfs checks requested in their fstab after upgrading to oneiric. These are supposedly *very many*. 2) The real problem is not that the check fails, but that oneiric's startup screen FALSELY reports that there were serious problems mounting the drives. The screen should report that the drives could not be checked since no program to do this was available. The message as it is will badly scare users, since the must assume that their data is damaged, which, most likely, is not the case. 3) Not requesting the check will of course avoid this bug. But since users could safely request checking in fstab up to natty without receiving any errors, we must assume that checks *are* requested for ntfs drives. 4) This is a show stopper for oneiric. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838091 Title: should link fsck.ntfs - ntfsfix/ntfsck To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ntfs-3g/+bug/838091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 961488] [NEW] Brasero does not burn DAO when burning several copies
Public bug reported: When burning an audio CD, Brasero uses disc-at-once mode, i.e., there is no gap between tracs. This works fine, unless after writing has finished, you decide to burn additional copies (as the dialog asks): Additional copies are then written in track-at-once mode, i.e., they have gaps of 2 seconds between tracs. Why does brasero use TAO für additional copies? Discs were not written on the fly, so I'd expect that the additional copies feature uses the same image as before? But obviously, it doesn't. Listen to this live stream (by German radio station Deutschlandfunk, a variable bit rate vorbis stream): http://www.dradio.de/streaming/dlf_hq_ogg.m3u 2. after some minutes (sooner or later), dropouts occur ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.35-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-16.28-generic 3.0.17 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-16-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Feb 20 11:11:01 2012 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Release amd64 (20110427.1) SourcePackage: gstreamer0.10 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2011-10-14 (128 days ago) ** Affects: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug oneiric running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/936867 Title: Dropouts while listening to vorbis variable bit rate live stream To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/936867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 528073] Re: blkid (sometimes?) hangs on extended partition if same device name existed before partitioning
11.10 When calling update-grub (which is also called during upgrades of kernel packages), the process hangs. In the table of processes, I see a process called grub-mount trying to mount an ntfs partition. After manually killing it, it proceeds to my next ntfs partition, and agin hangs. After manually killing it again, it proceeds nicely with the rest of my partitions (non-ntfs). This looks as if grub-mount has difficulties mounting ntfs partitions. This never happened before. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528073 Title: blkid (sometimes?) hangs on extended partition if same device name existed before partitioning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/528073/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 902785] [NEW] Install al available updates from Unity dash does not work
Public bug reported: When the update-manager icon is kept in the Unity dash, it shows an option to install all available updates when right-clicked. Chosing this option does not work, unless update-manager is currently running (which makes this option pretty usesless, as the running update-manager has an Install button anyway ;-) ).
