[Bug 1311984] Re: [MIR] electric-fence

2014-04-28 Thread Scott Kitterman
I've subscribe the Clamav Update Team to bugs for the package.

I agree there are some issues with the package, but I considered it
better to stay in sync with Debian since the package works for its
intended function (testing clamav) as is and no bugs have been filed
about it in Ubuntu or Debian, so I think it's unlikely the issues are
causing actual problems.

[Bug 1311984] [NEW] [MIR] electric-fence

2014-04-23 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

Electrice fence has no open bugs in Ubuntu and is subject to only very
slow change, so it should not add maintenance work in Main.

Availability: Available in Universe and built on all archs.

Rationale:

The rationale for this MIR is as a build-dependency for clamav. It is a
build-dep in Debian, but we drop it in Ubuntu. If we promoted electric-
fence in Ubuntu we could run more tests and it would make it so the
package could be sync'ed. Up to now, because of apparmor support,
clamav had to be merged, but that's being incorporated into Debian, so
if we could promote electric-fence it would reduce the overall
maintenance workload in Ubuntu.

Security:

Security history is good

Quality assurance:

For use with clamav, usage is automatic. The package does document it's use
well for it's target audience (developers).
It has no debconf questions
No Ubuntu bugs. Two minor Debian bugs (newest is from 2005). No expectation
that maintenance work would be needed to support this package.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=nosrc=electric-fence
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/electric-fence
There is no upstream bug tracker as this is a Debian native package.
There is no UI.

Dependencies:

All build-dep and depends in Main.

Standards compliance: No FHS issues. It's slightly unusual because
it's a test library, not a normal shared lib, but it works as it is.

Maintenance: No maintenance expected.

Background information: Information in the package is clear

Security checks

Check how many vulnerabilities the package had in the past and how
they were handled by upstream and the Debian/Ubuntu package:

http://cve.mitre.org/cve/cve.html: No entries.

http://secunia.com/advisories/search/: No entries

http://people.ubuntu.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/universe.html - No
entries

Check for security relevant binaries. If any are present, this
requires a more in-depth security review.

No security relevant binaries.

The current version in 12.04 is 2.7.8.dfsg-5.1ubuntu4.6, which is not
either of the ones reported in the logs. I would remove libxml2:i386,
upgrade and then reinstall it and whatever other packages you have that

Re: [Bug 1068390] Re: pbuilder-dist dies when there is no development release

2014-04-16 Thread Scott Kitterman
On Thursday, April 17, 2014 02:20:28 you wrote:
This bug just came back, it is not fixed. Trigger appears to be the
date: as of about two hours ago it is 2014-04-17 UTC, which happens to
be the last release date listed in /usr/share/distro-info/ubuntu.csv.
So the distro_info library thinks there is no development release, and
 throws an exception when asked.

I think the correct fix for pbuilder-dist is just to catch the exception
and conclude that perhaps if there is no development release, we're not
trying to build for the development release, and just get on with the
 job.

Since this one is marked Fix Released, it'll work better if you file a new bug
suggesting that.

At this point, if the Ubuntu Studio team want it in, we can still get it
in if the package is available very soon (by Saturday at the absolute

really their opinion that matters most.

[Bug 1303366] Re: korundum needs to remove the ruby1.8 dependencies for trusty

2014-04-07 Thread Scott Kitterman
kita2 is 5 years without an upstream release, not robustly maintained in
Ubuntu, not in Debian, and needs porting to work with the new Ruby
policy. In order to facilitate ruby1.8 removal, kita2 should be
removed. If it's later fixed, it can be re-introduced in a later
release and backported to trusty if needed.

Re: [Bug 1301108] Re: [MIR] pyqt5

2014-04-02 Thread Scott Kitterman
Can we just copy it to backports and then forward copy it when U opens if we
have to back it out? We'll want to be able to build all of the Qt5 based KDE
products on trusty as they are released over the next year, so we'll need this
one way or another and for infrastructure like this, I'd rather it's in the
archive than some random PPA.

In the meantime, until someone has done the work to get qt5webkit out of main,
can we not give up on this as it's already there, so qscintillla2 isn't
currently making it worse.

That said, I doubt all the work to get qt5webkit (or webkit-gtk) out for

On that basis, would you be OK with promoting pyqt5, qtserialport-opensource-
src, and qtx11extras-opensource-src for 14.04?

[Bug 1301106] [NEW] [MIR] qtserialport-opensource-src

2014-04-01 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

Required in Main as a build-dep of pyqt5 and is consistent with the
overall goal of heading for Qt5 everywhere.

Robustly maintained in Debian and in Ubuntu by both the Kubuntu team and
Canonical Ubuntu Engineering.

Meets all requirements of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuMainInclusionRequirements

No history of security issues.

Essentially an element of a new version qt4-x11, which is in Main. Qt5
is just mostly broken up into a lot more packages.

I agree this should be done, so FFe granted on the condition you find an
archive admin with time to deal with the New review (I don't have it at
the moment). This isn't a literal sync, it's merge, so it will need
review.

[Bug 1296856] [NEW] Please update clamav to 0.98.1 for Lucid - Saucy in security/updates

2014-03-24 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

As discussed in the Ubuntu Security team meeting today, I think it would
be prudent to deliver 0.98.1 to all users and not just users of
backports. Both 0.98.1 upstream and the packaging for 0.98.1 seem to be
in a stable place where a general update would be appropriate. The
major reason to do this is that the current packages, 0.97.8, cannot use
all current virus definitions. You can see this in this excerpt of the
libclamav/others.h diff:

  * CL_FLEVEL is the signature f-level specific to the current code and
@@ -53,11 +55,12 @@
  * in re-enabling affected modules.
  */

-#define CL_FLEVEL 69
+#define CL_FLEVEL 76
 #define CL_FLEVEL_DCONFCL_FLEVEL
 #define CL_FLEVEL_SIGTOOL CL_FLEVEL

The packages for precise - saucy are unmodified from trusty. For
lucid, there are a few changes, notable removing use of dh-autoreconf
since it doesn't exist and the reconf would fail even if it did and
disabling LLVM on powerpc to fix the build (last upload we gave up on
powerpc since I didn't think of trying this).

[Bug 1290514] Re: LibreOffice KDE4 backend crashes in Qt4 recursive paint events

2014-03-19 Thread Scott Kitterman
Hello Jan-Marek, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qt4-x11 into saucy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qt4-x11/4:4.8.4+dfsg-
0ubuntu18.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,

[Bug 1294744] [NEW] FFe - Update opendmarc to 1.2.0 for (mostly) fixes

2014-03-19 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

As you can see from the attached changelog diff, this is mostly bugfix
and the new features are low risk. It's in Debian and is a sync if
approved. The fixes make this relatively new package a lot more
functional and I'd really like to see it in the LTS.

I'm the Debian maintainer and involved upstream, so I'm keeping on top
of what's going on with the package.

The test suite is run on build (at least the tests that don't need
network access) and they all pass.

I should mention that this needed a feature freeze exception since we're
past feature freeze, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess

I've approved it without going through the normal process.

2014-03-10 Thread Scott Kitterman
Debian has the new release, so for trusty, we can sync that. It would
be really useful if you could prepare debdiffs for precise and saucy.

[Bug 991341] Re: Postfix 2.9.1 - unused parameter

2014-03-08 Thread Scott Kitterman
This isn't a bug. It's a new feature in 2.9 that warns if a parameter
is unused. What it means is that there is a typo in either main.cf or
master.cf.

[Bug 1289501] [NEW] pkg-config broken on saucy (only) -pthread for both --libs and --cflags of check.pc are missing

2014-03-07 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

This is already fixed via Debian in Trusty:

check (0.9.10-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * add -pthread to both --libs and --cflags of check.pc (sigh)

 -- Robert Lemmen rober...@semistable.com Mon, 25 Nov 2013 20:10:47
+

This causes incorrect linking in saucy. See
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/168496724/buildlog_ubuntu-saucy-
amd64.clamav_0.98.1%2Bdfsg-2ubuntu1~13.10~ppa1_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz for
an example. This package builds fine on precise, quantal, and trusty.

From the build logs:
Saucy:
configure: Summary of miscellaneous features
  check : -lcheck_pic -lrt -lm
Trusty:
configure: Summary of miscellaneous features
check : -pthread -lcheck_pic -lrt -lm

The fix is to SRU the -6 change into Saucy.

[Impact]

 * Some packages will fail to build. Since not all packages were
rebuilt after the new (broken) check version landed during Saucy
development, there may be, in addition to PPA packages like the example,
archive packages when cannot be built for security updates, SRU, etc.

[Test Case]

 * See the above build log for reproduction.

 * Once the new check package is in -proposed, i'll add -proposed to the
PPA and retry. If it builds, win.

[Regression Potential]

 * Regression potential is negligible.
