culprit turned out to be alltray - which keeps thunderbird in the system
tray, in addition to keeping drag-and-drop from working :)

with Consolas and DejaVu Sans Mono in Gutsy. It used to look fine with
Feisty, so I'm not sure what changed with the subpixel AA that would cause
this only in GVim...

This was the diff 'sudo grub-mkdevicemap' explicitely:

It is still the same problem on my Karmic with full updates.

(1) i was overly optimistic when I said that exiting the initramfs shell
immediately helped. It often requires a wait of 30-60 seconds to succeed.
(2) an added observation that could shed some light: the hard-disk activity led

Thanks for the hint. I found bug #332270... it might be more akin to
what I'm describing. Still might be fruitful to cross examine that one:
udev's change to inotify is known to cause problems/slowness in booting
by constant firings of change events. This might happen without lvm? I
don't know
this as a bug
against lvm2 (unless I find some documentation on lvm2 that I should
have read, stating that this behaviour is by design).

Currently running an Acer Aspire 5250 (laptop) with a built in Atheros
Ar9485 wireless device. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 and then upgraded to
11.10 using an ethernet connection. Upon removing the ethernet cable and
using the default wireless drivers and network manager, the
*SOLVED* I rolled back to 10.10 and installed compat-wireless 2.6-35(?)
with ath5k and ath9k. I had heard (and later confirmed) that
linuxwireless.org was working on a a new release of ath9k that addresses

Also, even if this was by design, in my mind it wouldbe broken by
design. Read the issue, you'll notice that this will prohibit use of
LVM2 snapshots on many systems.

Could it be this is somehow still a problem on Ubuntu natty 64 bit? I'm

This has officially advanced from the usual Who-moved-my-cheese into
the realm of who-stole-my-cheese.
I can't believe we have to sit here and watch Windows users have all the
fun with WinDirStat (which is a port of kdirstat), but Linux users can't
have it anymore?! Gawk. Nervous grin. Laughing
Setting TERM=xterm fixes it.

Same here. I put my mom on Intrepid after she couldn't install the
drivers for her new printer on windows. Wouldn't it be a bleeding shame
if now we don't let her print from ubuntu ...

cups says can't promp for authorization when printing to my samba printer

What is gateway to LAN? Sounds like something that I wouldn't like
advertised (security) at all.
