Thanks guys for the suggestion to copy in the libjvm.so from jdk-7- seems to have done the job for now. I am using CDT 5 inside eclipse Ganymede with about 6 projects and as of yesterday one project decided to crash the system with the unexpected error in libjvm.so. I am also having the same problem with Intrepid. After trying to enable apport using your instructions above, it says that I do not have permission to save the file. Is there a way of overriding this? (sorry, I am new to Ubuntu!). There are no files in the crash directory at the moment. After downloading a podcast, Rhythmbox stops responding. It's the same bug. Steps: 1) In remote server: I create one link, in Nautilus, via right click create link. 2) Open that ftp folder in nautlis, from local PC, and I double-click on the link. Nautilus in local shows the error: "The link «link name» is broken. Do you want to move it to the trash?". And it is not true because the link works correctly on the server. Now in spanish: 1) Creo un enlace en el servidor con nautilus a una carpeta cualquiera. 2) Accedo al servidor con nautilus via protocolo FTP, hago doble-clic sobre el enlace y el nautilus me dice: "El enlace «nombre del enlace» está roto. ¿Quiere moverlo a la papelera? I change the session to Xmonad and put in my login details. The former desktop appears - nothing else happens. This happens every time, also with other window managers than Xmonad. if i choose Xmonad in the normal gdm login screen everthing works fine. Here the steps for reproducing it: 1. start system 2. login to the normal gnome session 3. open a terminal 4. write in: gdmflexiserver 5. choose a Xmonad session 6. put in the normal username and password 7. push enter - see for yourself - I expect that the Xmonad window manager is started in a second X-server. Hello all, I'm struggling with a problem that looks quite similar. About my computer: A Thinkpad T61, Ubuntu 8.10, Nvidia graphics card (how can I find which number exactly?). I also used the Here's what happens: For a long time, Ubuntu 8.10 worked just fine. Then, probably at about the same time as it happend for Chris, the computer switched to text mode at startup. The last message that appears is "Setting advanced power mode..." (as above). Then the screen goes black, after some 10 seconds the same message appears again, it goes black again (some kind of look?) and after that, the low graphics mode screen appears giving me some kind of error message and asking me whether I want to reconfigure graphics mode. Then, when I start with the default configuration, my computer works fine, just that it isn't using the Nvidia 177 driver anymore but the open source driver (which doesn't work with external screen and seams not to support sleep mode). When I switch back to Nvidia, sometimes the computer starts just fine, sometimes the described problem appear again. One more point: I have reinstalled the whole system last weekend (four days ago). Hi Sebastien, sorry that I didn't add an example. The attachment now contains five files of the types .cc, .hpp, .hh, .c and .h. Right-clicking on the .c file shows the correct behaviour, offering gedit, emacs, emacsclient and openoffice. For the other four files nautilus only offers gedit instead. But please, do also the testing with empty files named with the given extensions. This should work as well, because I usually create a file with nautilus and open it with a double click then. I have the same problem:
Printing of some PDF files to a PostScript printer is
very very very slow and produces a poor quality. It looks rasterised.
I did some tests with LaTeX producing the PDF file and found the
following: I can use the same LaTeX source only switching the
"\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}" line creating a working and a not working PDF
file. I tested it with the "Print to file (PS)" option in the printing
dialog, thus it seems not to be related to any specific printer. I
attached both PDF files and the LaTeX source. Both documents only have
one page without graphics. Thus it seems to be a problem related to the
font encoding. And some component switches in a rasterising mode.

That sound very much like the problems I have on a thinkpad R50p since I installed Intrepid. The system is fully encrypted, hence I blamed cryptsetup until stumbling upon this report. Nearly daily the system freezes due to high load, cpu and harddisk-activity go nuts. Killing X stops whatever process gone wild. (If I can still manage to kill X). I was able to run top a few times when the incident occured but could not determine a specific application. In many cases one application or service (updatedb.mlocat and update-apt-xapi, sometimes some Java app with Sun's Java) was using up to 45/50% of the processor speed. Once the problem gets worse top freezes. The logs seem to contain no useful hints, either. I'm not sure about that. /dev/dm* are temporary device mappers if I am not mistaken. They used to be associated with LVM which would make perfectly sense, as I have a logical volumes in the encrypted drive. However I read somewhere that some volatile devices like flash cards also use /dev/dm* devices. I totally agree. For me the mapper is always correctly created. The problems occure somewhere in the mounting process afterwards. I can confirm this on a freshly installed intrepid ibex. To reproduce: Plug in a fully encrypted disk, the password dialogue pops up. Enter password, the device mapper gets created, gnome mount rejects to mount the drive. Quote: Cannot mount volume. Unable to mount the volume '[label]'. mount: special device /dev/dm-4 does not exist and DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. If mounted manually the message reads: ~$ gnome-mount -vbd /dev/mapper/luks_crypto_[...] gnome-mount 0.8 ** Message: Given device '/dev/mapper/luks_crypto_[...]' is not a volume or a drive. Might the way in which the luks volume is created on the disk affect the way it is regarded by gnome mount? E.g. encrypting /dev/sdb1 instead of /dev/sdb?
