With metacity compositing manager i experience massive slowdown on the
whole system when i use wine application like microsoft word. When i

i agree. Default behaviour is terrible. Using function key is terrible
and difficult.
Just to make alt-f4 you need both hand.
When you press fn change must be permanent (until you press it again).
This is the right way.

The report was related to ubuntu 8.10.
After the report i tried to disable compiz and clean up xorg.conf with
no effect. I found later that the problem was related to nvidia closed
source driver. So i swithced to nv driver but performance was
subminimal. Now i change my nvidia 8600 with an old

i can confirm this in ubuntu 9.10 beta 64bit. In my dmesg i see the same error:
