[Bug 2061214] Re: [SRU] Software Sources is not compatible with deb822

2024-04-26 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Leó, or anyone else affected,

Accepted software-properties into noble-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-
properties/0.99.49 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
noble to verification-done-noble. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-noble. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 2063834] Re: openjdk-8-jre:i386 openjdk-8-jre-headless:i386 missing for noble

2024-04-26 Thread Steve Langasek
"Drop hard-coded entry for openjdk-8

In theory this entry was added for 'bootstrapping', but we have definitely
not needed openjdk-8 for bootstrapping newer openjdks for a long time.
Leave this in place for releases older than noble so we can continue to
provide security support for it as needed, but make sure we don't wrongly
carry it forward."

https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu-archive-
tools/commit/?id=64fae2d640cee3ffe489419cce7a547f3c3530e9

openjdk versions had been hard-coded for i386 in a python script instead
of going through the standard process for seeding of packages. This
had several consequences, including the fact that dependencies were not
automatically resolved by germinate. As part of the discussions around
jdk test dependencies in Ubuntu 24.04, I started to look at cleaning up
this hard-coding and was told that our previous reasons for needing
openjdk-8 i386 binaries no longer applied.

It is possible to restore this in 24.04 but someone would need to
present a use case for it.

[Bug 2063855] [NEW] desktop-file-utils lists snap-store as a default handler for Debian packages but it doesn't handle them

2024-04-26 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Currently, desktop-file-utils lists the snap store as the default
handler for Debian packages:

$ grep debian /usr/share/applications/defaults.list
application/vnd.debian.binary-package=snap-store_ubuntu-software-local-file.desktop
application/x-debian-package=snap-store_ubuntu-software-local-file.desktop
$

However, as discussed at https://github.com/ubuntu/app-
center/issues/1407 it does not, in fact, have support for handling these
packages.

We should correct this so that handling of the packages falls through to
something that actually does.

You still have a wrong SPDX header in the file, even though

[Bug 2062428] Re: Kubuntu 24.04 daily builds - Install randomly hangs/fails/crashes on systems with less than ~3GB of RAM

2024-04-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Walter, you assigned this to livecd-rootfs, but that's a dead end. The
memory consumption of the livecd is largely a property of the software
it runs. Ubuntu and Kubuntu might both fail now on a system with 3GiB
of RAM, but any fix to get under that threshold is likely to be flavor-
specific and not a function of the image build system.

This is not necessarily a calamares issue, but I'm reopening a task
there so that it's somewhat on the radar of Kubuntu folks.

** Also affects: calamares-settings-ubuntu (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

library; and stdgpu only (build-)depends on this arch: all library. So
librocthrust-dev can't be removed, and I think stdgpu shouldn't be
removed either - restoring those binaries.

[Bug 2061190] [NEW] quirk needed for t64 library transitions in 24.04

2024-04-12 Thread Steve Langasek
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2061175 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061175

Public bug reported:

As of right now, https://ubuntu-archive-team.ubuntu.com/nbs.html still
has a very long list of packages that need cleaned up before we release
24.04 LTS in 2 weeks, and none of these packages are considered
candidates for removal yet due to reverse-dependencies.

Most of these reverse-dependencies are amd64-only dependencies on
pre-t64 library packages, due to the fast and highly-parallelized
rebuild of packages in response to xz-utils.

The good news is that, because these libraries are ABI-compatible on
amd64 and declare so via Provides:, the amd64 packages are not
uninstallable if we remove these libraries.

The bad news is, on upgrade from prior releases, apt will not know to
replace the non-t64 library with the t64 library if the user has no
packages installed that depend on the t64 library name; leaving them
islanded on library versions that are installable and compatible, but
not security supported in 24.04.

In order to handle this without doing no-change rebuilds of all of those
reverse-dependencies (which we simply do not have time for before
release), Julian points out that it's possible for us to quirk things to
ensure the libraries are swapped on upgrade:

- for each installed package
  - if the package is no longer available, and there is a package which
Replaces+Provides+(Conflicts|Breaks) that package, mark it for install

this should handle all of the t64 library transitions, and should also
be safe against accidentally switching users to a different
implementation of a package than the one they want to keep.

python3.11 will be dropped entirely before 24.04 releases.

[Bug 2060852] Re: nvidia-driver-550-open fails with secure boot enabled

2024-04-10 Thread Steve Langasek
The 550 driver does not have corresponding signed binaries, so the dkms
driver gets installed instead. This requires MOK enrollment in order to
boot under secureboot.

The 550 driver claims to support ALL of the devices that are supported
by 535:

$ join -v2 <(grep-dctrl -n -FPackage -X nvidia-driver-550 -sModaliases
/var/lib/apt/lists/*_noble_*binary-amd64_*Packages | sed -e's/nvidia(//; s/)//;
s/, /\n/g' | sort -u) <(grep-dctrl -n -FPackage -X nvidia-driver-535
-sModaliases /var/lib/apt/lists/*_noble_*binary-amd64_*Packages | sed
-e's/nvidia(//; s/)//; s/, /\n/g' | sort -u)
$

And ubuntu-drivers defaults to installing the newest driver that
supports the cards, so tries to install 550, not 535.

Either 550 needs to not declare support for these cards, or it needs to
be included in the modules that we deliver signatures for.

Until we have a resolution in one of those two ways, I am demoting this
package to noble-proposed and blocking it there.

[Bug 2060871] Re: please remove mlpcap from the archive

2024-04-10 Thread Steve Langasek
what may not be obvious here is that the idl in camlidl stands for
"interface definition language", meaning all of these functions are
probably being generated at build time.

Also, we shouldn't remove the source package due to an armhf-specific
build failure.

Anyway, the prototype from the generated pcap_stubs.c file is:

void camlidl_ml2c_pcap_pcap_handle(value _v1, pcap_handle * _c2,
camlidl_ctx _ctx)

so we can just fix the build failure by copying this prototype over.

(Unfortunately, even though camlidl generates a pcap.h header file, it
doesn't include this particular protoype. No idea why.)

[Bug 2060264] [NEW] fastqtl: autopkgtest failure on armhf with new glibc

results - - - - - - - - - -
598s run-sample-analysis FAIL non-zero exit status 1

This error is reproducible.

It may be a regression introduced by some other package than glibc, but
this glibc includes arm changes so filing here initially just in case.

[Bug 2053192] Re: geoipupdate should be moved to universe

2024-03-28 Thread Steve Langasek
The default mapping of contrib is to multiverse because the common case
is that packages are in contrib because they are free but depend on
things in non-free, so they must be in multiverse for installability.

Ubuntu does not have a policy that free software which exists to
interface with non-free services must be in multiverse.

[Bug 2059217] [NEW] webdis segfaults on armhf because libevent is not transitioned

2024-03-27 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

webdis 0.1.9+dfsg-1.1build1 has been rebuilt for 64-bit time_t but it
depends on and links against libevent which has not. We have libevent
synced from experimental which therefore misses the NMU in unstable and
will need to be manually merged.
