[Bug 1617026] Re: E-Mail got stucked on outbox and it doesn't appear on that folder as well

2016-09-12 Thread Thiago Martins
Ignore this bug, problem solved by removing the bugged message out from
the "Local/Outbox", not the regular "Outbox" folder (of the Exchange
server).

Marked as invalid.

[Bug 1617026] Re: E-Mail got stucked on outbox and it doesn't appear on that folder as well

2016-09-12 Thread Thiago Martins
Hey guys,

How can I workaround this situation?

Every time I click on "send & receive", I see the following yellow error
message on Evolution:

"Error while Sending message.
One or more recipients are invalid."

But there is not a single message in my Outbox folder to delete and get
rid of this.

I appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Thiago

[Bug 1617026] [NEW] E-Mail got stucked on outbox and it doesn't appear on that folder as well

2016-08-25 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Here is the problem...

There is an broken e-mail inside of Outbox but, first, it doesn't show
up on the list, second, it is impossible to get rid of it!

Steps to reproduce:

1- Try to write an e-mail to:

 John Doe <'j...@bla.com'>

 NOTE: the single quotes is what triggers this bug! The correct would be
"John Doe ", which works.

 Write something on body...

2- Click on "Send", BOOM! Hit the bug.

This e-mail will get stuck forever somewhere inside of Evolution... I
can't find a way to remove it.

Cheers!
Thiago

I'm on 4.4.0-28-generic (Xenial), problem still here.

A good website to test it, is TradingView:

Google Chrome window flickers a lot! Especially if you really use the
above website, by login in, clicking on its functions, pop-up windows
and etc...

Awesome!!!

I'm curious, when Xenial receives the Yakkety kernel, will it be more
modular too?

I'm asking this because Xenial have a status of "Won't fix" but, since
Canonical backports it, maybe it will benefit from this as well, am I
right?

Deploying Yakkety now to experiment it...:-)

Hi!

 Cool! I think that screencast makes it easier to report. :-D

 Sure, I'll send this bug report to both mailing lists, with some time
indexes, good idea...

 Yes, if you bind it back to virtio-pci, by running "dpdk_nic_bind -b
virtio-pci", instead of reboot, speed drop just like before.

[Bug 1577256] [NEW] The OVS+DPDK dpdkvhostuser socket bridge, only works as expected, if the KVM Guest also have DPDK drivers loaded

2016-05-01 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Hello guys!

 I am seeing a problematic situation here, where a KVM Guest have a huge
negative impact on its neighbors and on the host, if using Linux Kernel
drivers and not DPDK drivers, for the VirtIO vNICs wired against the
"dpdkvhostuser" socket port.

 Instead of writing down everything that I am doing, which is super
boring, I'll do a screencast! Maybe this is an opportunity for Canonical
to bring "Video Bug Reports" to Launchpad! ^_^

 Watch the steps to reproduce this problem in a screencast now!

 https://www.youtube.com/v/yHnaSikd9XY?version=3=hd720=1

 At a glance, I'm booting 3 KVM Guest on top of 6 dpdkvhostuser OVS
Ports.

 The host setup is like this:

---
# IXIA simulating LAN side
ovs-vsctl add-br br0 -- set bridge br0 datapath_type=netdev
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 dpdk0 -- set Interface dpdk0 type=dpdk

# IXIA simulating WAN side
ovs-vsctl add-br br1 -- set bridge br1 datapath_type=netdev
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 dpdk1 -- set Interface dpdk1 type=dpdk

# Bring it up (not sure if needed)
ip link set dev br0 up
ip link set dev br1 up

# Enable multi-queue on host side, 4 queues
ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:n-dpdk-rxqs=4

# Give mode CPU Cores to ovs-vswitchd PMD threads
ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:pmd-cpu-mask=

# Customer A DPDK Ports
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 vhost-user1 -- set Interface vhost-user1
type=dpdkvhostuser
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 vhost-user2 -- set Interface vhost-user2
type=dpdkvhostuser

# Customer A VLAN tags
ovs-vsctl set port vhost-user1 trunks=110,111
ovs-vsctl set port vhost-user2 trunks=110,111

# Customer B DPDK Ports
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 vhost-user3 -- set Interface vhost-user3
type=dpdkvhostuser
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 vhost-user4 -- set Interface vhost-user4
type=dpdkvhostuser

# Customer B VLAN tags
ovs-vsctl set port vhost-user3 trunks=112,113
ovs-vsctl set port vhost-user4 trunks=112,113

# Ubuntu KVM Guest with OVS+DPDK, all vlans, test control:
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 vhost-user5 -- set Interface vhost-user5
type=dpdkvhostuser
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 vhost-user6 -- set Interface vhost-user6
type=dpdkvhostuser
---

 You start VM 1, wired against vhost-user 1 and 2, speed drop until DPDK
drivers loads up inside of the guest.

 You start VM 2, wired against vhost-user 3 and 4, speed drop until DPDK
drivers loads up inside of the guest.

 You start VM 3, wired against vhost-user 5 and 6, speed drop until DPDK
drivers loads up inside of the guest.

 This is a bad situation where a VM can badly affects its neighbors
intentionally.

 Let me know if you guys needs more information about how to reproduce
this, I can also, give access to my test environment via Teamviewer, for
Canonical employees.

Thanks!
Thiago

[Bug 1577088] Re: OVS+DPDK crashes at the host, right after starting another OVS+DPDK inside of a KVM Guest, easier to reproduce if multi-queue is enabled.

2016-05-01 Thread Thiago Martins
Chris,

 You're right, I executed:

 ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:n-dpdk-rxqs=4

 ...Within the KVM Guest and guess what? That is precisely what is
crashing OVS+DPDK at the host!

 I removed IXIA out from the equation, not sending traffic now, all
stopped.

 * Steps to reproduce (I'll update the original post soon)

 1- Within the KVM Guest (original post reference, steps 7, 8 and 9):

systemctl disable dpdk
systemctl disable openvswitch-switch

reboot

ethtool -L ens5 combined 4
ethtool -L ens6 combined 4

ovs-vsctl add-br ovsbr -- set bridge ovsbr datapath_type=netdev

ovs-vsctl add-port ovsbr dpdk0 -- set Interface dpdk0 type=dpdk

ovs-vsctl add-port ovsbr dpdk1 -- set Interface dpdk1 type=dpdk

So far, so good (slow but, not crashing)...

ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:n-dpdk-rxqs=4

BOOM! Now it crashes!

Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/2qREFET.png

Easier to reproduce, no need for traffic (IXIA, for example).

Cheers!
Thiago

[Bug 1577088] [NEW] OVS+DPDK crashes at the host, right after starting another OVS+DPDK inside of a KVM Guest, if multi-queue is enabled

2016-04-30 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

 It is possible to crash OVS + DPDK running at the host, from inside of
a KVM Guest!

 All you need to do, is to enable multi-queue, then, from a KVM Guest,
you can kill OVS running at the host...

 * Hardware requirements (might be exaggerated but this is what I have):

 1 Dell Server with dedicated 2 x 10G NIC cards, plus another 1 or 2 1G NIC,
for management, apt-get, ssh, etc;
 1 IXIA Traffic Generator - 10G in both directions.

 * Steps to reproduce, at a glance:

 1- Deploy Ubuntu at the host;

 a. Grub options /etc/default/grub:

-
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash iommu=pt intel_iommu=on
default_hugepagesz=1GB hugepagesz=1G hugepages=64"
-

 2- Install OVS with DPDK;

 3- Configure DPDK, 1G Hugepages, PCI IDs and create the OVS bridges for a VM:

 a. /etc/default/openvswitch-switch:

-
DPDK_OPTS='--dpdk -c 0x1 -n 4 -m 2048,0 --vhost-owner libvirt-qemu:kvm
--vhost-perm 0664'
-

 b. /etc/dpdk/interfaces:

-
pci :06:00.0 uio_pci_generic
pci :06:00.1 uio_pci_generic
-

 NOTE: those PCI devices are located at NUMA Node 0.

 c. DPDK Hugepages /etc/dpdk/dpdk.conf:

-
NR_1G_PAGES=32
-

 d. OVS Bridges:

ovs-vsctl add-br br0 -- set bridge br0 datapath_type=netdev
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 dpdk0 -- set Interface dpdk0 type=dpdk
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 vhost-user1 -- set Interface vhost-user1
type=dpdkvhostuser

ovs-vsctl add-br br1 -- set bridge br1 datapath_type=netdev
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 dpdk1 -- set Interface dpdk1 type=dpdk
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 vhost-user2 -- set Interface vhost-user2
type=dpdkvhostuser

ip link set dev br0 up
ip link set dev br1 up

 4- At the host, enable multi-queue and add more CPU Cores to OVS+DPDK PMD
threads:

ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:n-dpdk-rxqs=4
ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:pmd-cpu-mask=

 5- Deploy Ubuntu at the VM, full Libvirt XML:

 a. ubuntu-16.01-1 XML:

 https://paste.ubuntu.com/16162857/

 b.  /etc/default/grub:

-
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="default_hugepagesz=1GB hugepagesz=1G hugepages=1"
-

 6- Install OVS with DPDK;

 7- Configure DPDK, 1G Hugepages, PCI IDs and create the OVS bridges within the
VM:

 NOTE: Do NOT enable multi-queue inside of the VM yet, you'll see that,
so far, it will work!

 a. /etc/default/openvswitch-switch:

-
DPDK_OPTS='--dpdk -c 0x1 -n 4 -m 1024 --pci-blacklist :00:03.0
--pci-blacklist :00:04.0'
-

 b. /etc/dpdk/interfaces:

-
pci :00:05.0 uio_pci_generic
pci :00:06.0 uio_pci_generic
-

 c. DPDK Hugepages /etc/dpdk/dpdk.conf:

-
NR_1G_PAGES=1
-

 d. OVS Bridge:

ovs-vsctl add-br ovsbr -- set bridge ovsbr datapath_type=netdev
ovs-vsctl add-port ovsbr dpdk0 -- set Interface dpdk0 type=dpdk
ovs-vsctl add-port ovsbr dpdk1 -- set Interface dpdk1 type=dpdk

ip link set dev ovsbr up

 NOTE 1: So far, so good! But no multi-queue yet!

 NOTE 2: Sometimes, you can crash ovs-vswitchd at the host, right
here!!!

 8- At the VM, add more CPU Cores to OVS+DPDK PMD threads:

2 Cores):

ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:pmd-cpu-mask=6

or:

4 Cores):

ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:pmd-cpu-mask=F

 9- Enable multi-queue before starting up DPDK and OVS, run this inside of the
VM:

systemctl disable dpdk
systemctl disable openvswitch-switch

reboot

ethtool -L ens5 combined 4
ethtool -L ens6 combined 4

service dpdk start
service openvswitch-switch start

BOOM!!!

 10- Error log at the host (ovs-vswitchd + DPDK crashed):

 https://paste.ubuntu.com/16152614/

 IMPORTANT NOTES:

 * Sometimes, even without enabling multi-queue at the VM, ovs-vswitchd
at the host, crashes!

 ** Also, more weird, is that I have a proprietary DPDK App (L2 Bridge
for DPI), that uses multi-queue automatically and it does NOT crash the
ovs-vswitchd running at the host! I can use my DPDK App with multi-
queue, but I can't do the same with OVS+DPDK.

 So, if I replace "ubuntu16.01-1.qcow2", by my own qcow2 where I have a
proprietary DPDK App, I can use multi-queue, OVS+DPDK at the host works just
fine (slower than PCI Pass but, acceptable, much better than just regular OVS).

Cheers!
Thiago

[Bug 1546565] Re: Ownership/Permissions of vhost_user sockets for openvswitch-dpdk make them unusable by libvirt/qemu/kvm

2016-04-29 Thread Thiago Martins
Never mind... I'm reading the "ubuntu-fix-vhost-user-socket-
permission.patch" file:

---
+*   ``--vhost-owner``
+
+ When creating vhost_user sockets change owner and group to the specified
value.
+ This can be given as ``user:group``, but also only ``user`` or ``:group``
are supported.
+
+Examples::
+
+   --vhost-owner 'libvirt-qemu:kvm'
+   --vhost-owner 'libvirt-qemu'
+   --vhost-owner ':kvm'
+
+*   ``--vhost-perm``
+
+When creating vhost_user sockets set them up with these permissions.
+
+For example::
+
+   --vhost-perm '0664'
---

I'll try it now...

Cheers!

[Bug 1570195] [NEW] Network tools like "ethtool" or "ip" freezes when DPDK Apps are running with VirtIO

2016-04-14 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

 I'm facing an issue here with both "ethtool" and "ip", while trying to
manage black-listed by DPDK PCI VirtIO devices.

 You'll need an Ubuntu Xenial KVM guest, with 4 VirtIO vNIC cards, to
run those tests

 PCI device example from inside a Xenial guest:

---
# lspci | grep Ethernet
00:03.0 Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio network device
00:04.0 Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio network device
00:05.0 Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio network device
00:06.0 Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio network device
---

Where "ens3" is the first / default interface, attached to Libvirt's
"default" network. The "ens4" is reserved for "ethtool / ip" tests
(attached to another Libvirt's network without IPs or DHCP), "ens5" will
be "dpdk0" and "ens6" "dpdk1"...

---
 *** How it works?

 1- For example, try to enable multi-queue on DPDK's devices, boot your
Xenial guest, and run:

 ethtool -L ens5 combined 4
 ethtool -L ens6 combined 4

 2- Install openvswitch-switch-dpdk configure DPDK and OVS and fire it
up.

 https://help.ubuntu.com/16.04/serverguide/DPDK.html

 service openvswitch-switch stop
 service dpdk stop

 OVS DPDK Options (/etc/default/openvswitch-switch):

--
DPDK_OPTS='--dpdk -c 0x1 -n 4 --socket-mem 1024 --pci-blacklist
:00:03.0,:00:04.0'
--

 service dpdk start
 service openvswitch-switch start

 - Enable multi-queue on OVS+DPDK inside of the VM:

 ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:n-dpdk-rxqs=4
 ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:pmd-cpu-mask=0xff00

 * Multi-queue apparently works! ovs-vswitchd consumes more that 100% of
CPU, meaning that it multi-queue is there...

 *** Where it fails?

 1- Reboot the VM and try to run ethtool again (or go straight to 2
below):

 ethtool -L ens5 combined 4

 2- Try to fire up ens4:

 ip link set dev ens4 up

 # FAIL! Both commands hangs, consuming 100% of guest's CPU...

 So, it looks like a Linux fault, because it is "allowing" the DPDK
VirtIO App (a user land App), to interfere with kernel devices in a
strange way...

Best,
Thiago

[Bug 1558857] Re: Upgrade to latest stable version v1.3.2

2016-04-10 Thread Thiago Martins
Guys,

 I'm curious about this...

 * Mesa will be upgraded from 11.1, to 11.2... Big changes...

 * MySQL just got upgraded from 5.6, to 5.7!

 * APT was upgraded from 1.2.5, to 1.2.7...

 All very recent upgrades that just happened on Xenial...

 So, why this big resistance to upgrade Libvirt from 1.3.1, to 1.3.2?
Most recent Libvirt 1.3.3 is already on Debian!

 https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/libvirt

 Anyway, I'm just curious about why Libvirt can not receive a last
minute update, while many other packages can! Why is that?

Cheers!
Thiago

[Bug 1505839] Re: Unable to install from text mode interface

2016-04-10 Thread Thiago Martins
Dave Chiluk, you're wrong, this problem is perfectly reproducible
without Packer.

This is an Ubuntu BUG, for sure. Might be present on Debian as well but,
I didn't tested it on Debian.

What I know is that "install from text mode interface" does not work
anymore on Ubuntu, with or without Packer.

[Bug 1568627] Re: OpenvSwitch with DPDK brings all VirtIO NICs down, software reboot also doesn't work.

2016-04-10 Thread Thiago Martins
WAIT! I was too fast on reply about Trusty...

On Trusty with Cloud Archive Liberty enabled, and even after this:

update-alternatives --set ovs-vswitchd /usr/lib/openvswitch-switch-dpdk
/ovs-vswitchd-dpdk

And this:

# grep DPDK_OPTS /etc/default/openvswitch-switch
DPDK_OPTS='--dpdk -c 0x1 -n 4'

The command:

service openvswitch-switch stop
service openvswitch-switch start

 Does NOT bring "ovs-vswitchd" with "dpdk" options!

 So, this test with Trusty is invalid.

 I don't know how to enable OVS with DPDK on Trusty when with Cloud
Archive Liberty. The procedure might be different.

 I'll keep researching about this topic...

Cheers!

[Bug 1568627] Re: OpenvSwitch with DPDK brings all VirtIO NICs down, software reboot also doesn't work.

2016-04-10 Thread Thiago Martins
Guys,

 I can confirm that this problem does exists on top of Trusty KVM Guest
with Linux 4.4 (same Xenial kernel), but with DPDK 2.0 and OpenvSwitch
2.4 from Liberty Cloud Archive, it works!!

 At least, the Trusty guest doesn't lose connectivity and soft reboot
works too! Precisely where Xenial fails...

 So, something is wrong with OpenvSwitch 2.5 when with DPDK 2.2 (Xenial
Combo).

 Happy hacking!

Thanks!

[Bug 1568627] [NEW] OpenvSwitch with DPDK brings all VirtIO NICs down, software reboot also doesn't work.

2016-04-10 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

 Soon as we start OpenvSwitch with DPDK inside of a KVM guest, it brings
down all the VirtIO NICs! Including non-DPDK NIC VirtIO devices!

 The problem is easy to reproduce, I'm seeing it on two different hosts,
a Dell server and a Macbook Pro, both running Xenial on host and on VM.

 Also, if DPDK Openvswitch options are enabled on
/etc/default/openvswitch, soft reboot stops working! Very weird...

 Steps to reproduce:

 1- At the host, install Ubuntu KVM by running:

 sudo apt install ubuntu-virt

 2- Create two extra Libvirt networks, called "subscriber" and "internet", list
this:

tmartins@blade:~$ virsh net-list
 Name State  Autostart Persistent
--
 default  active yes   yes
 internet active yes   yes
 subscriber   active yes   yes

 3- Create a Xenial VM with 3 vNIC (Virtio), wire it against those 3 above
netorks.

 4- Inside of the Xenial VM, you might see the PCI IDs like this:

00:03.0 Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio network device
00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio network device
00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio network device

 5- Install OpenvSwitch with DPDK:

 sudo apt install openvswitch-switch-dpdk

 6- Configure DPDK:

 sudo vi /etc/dpdk/dpdk.conf  # Enable NR_2M_PAGES=64

 7- Select the PCI devices that you want to bind to DPDK drivers:

 sudo vi /etc/dpdk/interfaces

pci :00:09.0 uio_pci_generic
pci :00:0a.0 uio_pci_generic

 8- Reboot it

 NOTE: After rebooting it, you'll see by running "dpdk_nic_bind
--status", that the latest two VirtIO NIC cards are using DPDK-
compatible drivers. So far, so good...

 9- Configure OpenvSwitch to use DPDK

 run:

 update-alternatives --set ovs-vswitchd /usr/lib/openvswitch-switch-dpdk
/ovs-vswitchd-dpdk

 sudo vi /etc/default/openvswitch-switch

 Uncomment the latest line, like this:

DPDK_OPTS='--dpdk -c 0x1 -n 4'

 10- Hit the bug!

 Run:

 service openvswitch-switch stop

 service openvswitch-switch start   # BOOM!!!

 From this point, there are two problems:

1- All VirtIO NIC cards loses connectivity, not only the DPDK ones! But
also, vNICs with the regular Linux VirtIO drivers!

2- Soft reboot does not work.

 That's it! What am I missing here?

 Workaround:

 1- Disable OpenvSwitch DPDK options inside of /etc/default/openvswitch-
switch, just comment it, and force-reboot the VM. After this, VM
connectivity is restored (on its first vNIC) and soft reboot also works
again.

 I made a video about this! It is on Youtube:

 https://youtu.be/sSBqYUVsO8U

 I really appreciate any help!

Cheers!
Thiago

[Bug 1006655] Re: Can't convert to vmdk with the streamOptimized subformat

2016-04-01 Thread Thiago Martins
I have tried, many times, to use qemu-img to create StreamOptimized for
VMWare ESXi 6.0 OVAs.

It does NOT work.

After days of research, I replaced qemu-img, by vboxmanage, then, it
worked!

Now, I'm using something this:

--
vboxmanage convertfromraw packer/output-vm.raw packer/output-vm-disk1.vmdk
--format vmdk --variant Stream
--

I also had to edit the headers, with dd:

---
dd if=output-vm-disk1.vmdk of=output-vm-disk1.descriptor bs=1 skip=512
count=1024
sed -i -e 's/ide/lsilogic/g' output-vm-disk1.descriptor
dd conv=notrunc,nocreat if=output-vm-disk1.descriptor of=output-disk1.vmdk bs=1
seek=512 count=1024
---

This is the only way to build StreamOptimized VMDKs, for inclusion
inside of OVA, that works on VMWare 6.0.

The qemu-img can not be used.

Here is my full solution to this problem (if the same problem):

https://github.com/tmartinx/svauto/blob/dev/image-factory.sh#L510

I'm just not entirely sure if we're talking about the same problem
here...

I think that it would be a good idea to give it a try, maybe a Xenial
alpha.

Best!

2016-03-28 Thread Thiago Martins
Hey!

I'm also facing this problem, I recorded a video about it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l21WsKz3fZc

I tried to move away from XOrg, by using GNOME+Wayland, but, problem
persist, Wayland is faster, however, I can still see it flickering
(faster).

Problem with GNOME+Wayland is that it completely freezes my Macbook.

If I purge vargrant and then install the upstream package (version
1:1.8.1 from https://www.vagrantup.com/downloads.html) I can install the
vagrant-libvirt plugin with no problem. Switching back to the Ubuntu
version reproduces the original problem.

I think that it would be great to close BUG:

Package vagrant-libvirt for Xenial

Then, this problem will disappear!

Sure, I know Xenial have 1.3.1... Up to you guys to decide this! If you say
that Libvirt's changelog doesn't have too much changes between 1.3.1 and
1.3.2, then, I'm good to close this bug has "won't fix" or, maybe, keep it
for Xenial 16.04.1...

Cheers!

[Bug 1559408] Re: Many PMD driver options are disabled, including "BNX2X"!

2016-03-20 Thread Thiago Martins
Yeah, I am unable to rebuild OpenvSwitch against my libdpdk-dev...
:-(

I can easily rebuild it, using Ubuntu's libdpdk-dev but, after enabling
BNX2X_PMD, OpenvSwitch doesn't build, I'm seeing the following error:

-
apt source openvswitch
cd openvswitch-2.5.0
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -us

..
configure: error: cannot link with dpdk
..
-

 Now I'm really stucked, I'll wait for Christian's help next week...
=)

Best,
Thiago

[Bug 1559408] Re: Many PMD driver options are disabled, including "BNX2X"!

2016-03-19 Thread Thiago Martins
Mmmm... Might not be a hugetable memory, double checked everything.

I'm thinking about the following error:

-
kernel: ovs-vswitchd[3793]: segfault at c80086e430 ip 7f0a4f222b26 sp
7ffce3539190 error 4 in libdpdk.so.0[7f0a4f1ff000+22f000]
-

Since I repackaged DPDK to enable BNX2X with PMD, I think that I'll need
to also, rebuild OpenvSwitch against new libdpdk-dev...

I'll try this tomorrow...

[Bug 1559408] Re: Many PMD driver options are disabled, including "BNX2X"!

2016-03-19 Thread Thiago Martins
So,

 I managed to include all NICs under the same IOMMU Group, like this:

---
dpdk_nic_bind --status

Network devices using DPDK-compatible driver

:01:00.0 'NetXtreme II BCM57800 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet' drv=vfio-pci
unused=bnx2x
:01:00.1 'NetXtreme II BCM57800 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet' drv=vfio-pci
unused=bnx2x
:01:00.2 'NetXtreme II BCM57800 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet' drv=vfio-pci

unused=bnx2x

Network devices using kernel driver

 However, now, OVS+DPDK doesn't complain anymore about the "VFIO group
is not viable", but, I'm seeing now the very same error when with
"uio_pci_generic", no firmware:

Mmm... Okay... APT is still receiving cycle updates... ;-)

Also, OpenStack with Open Soruce Xen, recommends Libvirt 1.3.2! I think
that this is something important for an LTS like Xenial.

[Bug 1559408] [NEW] Many PMD driver options are disabled, including "BNX2X"!

2016-03-19 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

 After deep research on the following problem:

 Xenial - OpenvSwitch with DPDK binding to 10G NIC, not working:
 https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-discuss/2016-March/016287.html

 I realized that, going against the DPDK documentation:

 http://dpdk.org/doc/guides/nics/bnx2x.html

 The option "CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_BNX2X_PMD" is DISABLED by default! Not
enabled, as the doc points (CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_BNX2X_PMD (default y))...

 Take a look:

---
cd ~/sources/dpdk

apt source dpdk

cd dpdk-2.2.0

$ grep PMD config/common_linuxapp | grep ^CONFIG | grep n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_MLX4_PMD=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_MLX5_PMD=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_BNX2X_PMD=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_NFP_PMD=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_SZEDATA2=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_PCAP=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_XENVIRT=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_QAT=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_QAT_DEBUG_INIT=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_QAT_DEBUG_TX=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_QAT_DEBUG_RX=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_QAT_DEBUG_DRIVER=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_AESNI_MB=n
CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_PMD_AESNI_MB_DEBUG=n
CONFIG_RTE_TEST_PMD_RECORD_CORE_CYCLES=n
CONFIG_RTE_TEST_PMD_RECORD_BURST_STATS=n
---

 I strong believe that this is the main problem with OpenvSwitch + DPDK
on Ubuntu, that causes OVS to not find any "dpdkX" interfaces! Even if
DPDK-Compatible driver is there, being used!!!

 So, I added the following line:

---
-e 's,(CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_BNX2X_PMD=).*,\1y,' \
---

 To DPDK's debian/rules file, it now looks like this:

---
build-config:
dh_testdir
$(MAKE) O=$(DPDK_STATIC_DIR) T=$(DPDK_CONFIG) config
sed -ri -e 's,(RTE_MACHINE=).*,\1"default",' \
-e 's,(RTE_NEXT_ABI=).*,\1n,' \
-e 's,(RTE_APP_TEST=).*,\1n,' \
-e 's,(CONFIG_RTE_EAL_IGB_UIO=).*,\1n,' \
-e 's,(CONFIG_RTE_KNI_KMOD=).*,\1n,' \
-e 's,(CONFIG_RTE_BUILD_COMBINE_LIBS=).*,\1y,' \
-e 's,(CONFIG_RTE_LIBRTE_BNX2X_PMD=).*,\1y,' \
-e 's,(LIBRTE_PMD_PCAP=).*,\1y,' \
-e 's,(LIBRTE_PMD_XENVIRT=).*,\1y,' \
$(DPDK_STATIC_DIR)/.config
---

 Note: There is a need to install:

sudo apt install zlib1g-dev

 After that, now, I can see a very different behavior! Still not
working... lol

 But some progress, look, the error on OVS log is very different now:

---
ovs-ctl[2170]: EAL: PCI device :01:00.0 on NUMA socket 0
ovs-ctl[2170]: EAL:   probe driver: 14e4:168a rte_bnx2x_pmd

ovs-vswitchd[2551]: EAL: PCI memory mapped at 0x7f618100
ovs-ctl[2170]: Aborted (core dumped)
---

 So, I tried something different, changed /etc/dpdk/interfaces from
this:

---
pci:01:00.0uio_pci_generic
pci:01:00.1uio_pci_generic
---

 To this:

---
pci:01:00.0vfio-pci
pci:01:00.1vfio-pci
---

 And now, a completely different, error message (still not working):

---
ovs-vswitchd[2950]: EAL: PCI device :01:00.0 on NUMA socket 0
ovs-vswitchd[2950]: EAL:   probe driver: 14e4:168a rte_bnx2x_pmd
ovs-vswitchd[2950]: EAL: :01:00.0 VFIO group is not viable!
ovs-vswitchd[2950]: EAL: Error - exiting with code: 1
ovs-vswitchd[2950]: Requested device :01:00.0 cannot be used
---

 It looks much better with VFIO! There is no more "core dumped"!

 But still not working.

 So, I'm opening this bug report, so you guys can enable the PMD drivers
for all the remaining drivers, like BNX2X, MLX4 & 5, XENVIRT, QAT, PCAP
and etc (maybe I am missing other DPDK options that we must enable! Lets
take a deep look into those disabled options)...

 However, I'm curious about the usage of BNX2X when with
"uio_pci_generic", what is that firmware error followed by a core dump?
Very intriguing...

 BTW, when with VFIO, I added the following options "iommu=pt
intel_iommu=on" to /etc/default/grub, otherwise, VFIO doesn't work.

 And, after reading the VFIO OVS error message, "VFIO group is not
viable", I google for it and I found the following blog post about this:

[IOMMU] The error of "VFIO group is not viable":
http://danny270degree.blogspot.com.br/2015/12/iommu-error-of-vfio-group-is-not-viable.html

 So, I think that I am almost there! It is just a matter of configuring
this VFIO group thing but, I have no idea about how to do that... :-P

 Christian is using ixgbe driver, which have PMD enabled by default!
That's why his setup works (ixgbe), and mine

"We do however recommend using libvirt 1.3.2, which is fully supported and
tested as part of the Xen Project CI loop. It addresses live migration
monitoring related issues and adds support for peer-to-peer migration mode,
which nova relies on."

[Bug 1555819] [NEW] Upgrade to latest stable version 1.5.1 of Python Shade

2016-03-10 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

 I'm facing problems to use python-shade from Xenial, with Ansible 2.0,
to manage OpenStack Mitaka. Basically, it is not working.

 I've posted about this problem on Ansible mail list:

 Unable to use "os_keypair" module, while "nova keypair-add" works:
 https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/ansible-project/1dpI7iqQv7w/wFiUG6cFBwAJ

 And the minimum version to make it work is 1.4.0 but, latest stable is
1.5.1.

 Can you guys update it for Xenial?

 Thanks in advance!

Best,
Thiago

2016-03-07 Thread Thiago Martins
You know what, this is not even a bug! Sorry about the buzz...

"ovs-vswitch log" is wrong, "log" is not even an option of "ovs-
vswitchd"!

Look:

Also, my log file have nothing wrong:

This is weird...

I just removed OVS with DPDK:

So, this might not be even a problem after all?

What is this message on log?

Thanks!

[Bug 1554346] [NEW] ovs-vswitchd log: connection attempt failed (Address family not supported by protocol)

2016-03-07 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

 I'm seeing an error right after first steps towards enabling
OpenvSwitch with DPDK on Xenial, easy to reproduce:

--
 NOTE: Instructions presented on an Intel post, also face this problem:

https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/using-open-vswitch-with-dpdk-on-ubuntu
--

 Steps to reproduce:

 * Installing

 apt update
 apt install dpdk openvswitch-switch-dpdk

 update-alternatives --set ovs-vswitchd /usr/lib/openvswitch-switch-dpdk
/ovs-vswitchd-dpdk

 * Configuring

 - Set DPDK_OPTS in "/etc/default/openvswitch-switch" file:

DPDK_OPTS='--dpdk -c 0x3 -n 4'

 - Set NR_2M_PAGES in "/etc/dpdk/dpdk.conf"

NR_2M_PAGES=64

 Then, just reboot the box, to make sure that it will come enabled.

 You can see that "ps axf | grep dpdk" will show that openvswitch is,
apparently, working with DPDK! But, is it really working?

 The BUG, run "ovs-vswitchd log", look:

---
root@xenial-1:~# ovs-vswitchd log
2016-03-08T05:08:35Z|1|ovs_numa|INFO|Discovered 4 CPU cores on NUMA node 0
2016-03-08T05:08:35Z|2|ovs_numa|INFO|Discovered 1 NUMA nodes and 4 CPU cores

2016-03-08T05:08:35Z|4|reconnect|INFO|log: connection attempt failed
(Address family not supported by protocol)
2016-03-08T05:08:35Z|5|reconnect|INFO|log: waiting 1 seconds before
reconnect
2016-03-08T05:08:36Z|6|reconnect|INFO|log: connecting...
2016-03-08T05:08:36Z|7|reconnect|INFO|log: connection attempt failed
(Address family not supported by protocol)
2016-03-08T05:08:36Z|8|reconnect|INFO|log: waiting 2 seconds before
reconnect
^C2016-03-08T05:08:36Z|9|fatal_signal|WARN|terminating with signal 2
(Interrupt)
---

Someone else is also facing this problem:

https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/networking/topic/611366

And I strong believe that because of this problem, it is not possible to
use a DPDK 10G NIC device, with OpenvSwitch+DPDK, thread on Ubuntu Devel
mail list (I'm guessing here):

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-
discuss/2016-March/016287.html

I really appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Thiago

[Bug 1554214] Re: Usege of vfio-pci module via /etc/dpdk/interfaces doesn't work

2016-03-07 Thread Thiago Martins
I also added:

--
default_hugepagesz=1GB hugepagesz=1G hugepages=1
--

To Grub Linux options, still doesn't work.

I think I am following
"https://github.com/openvswitch/ovs/blob/master/INSTALL.DPDK.md; but no
luck.

BTW, this isn't working on Ubuntu:

--
chmod a+x /dev/vfio
--

It just ignored it.

[Bug 1554275] [NEW] Script "/etc/init.d/openvswitch-switch restart" ignores "DPDK_OPTS", while "service openvswitch-switch restart" works!

2016-03-07 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

 If you enable "DPDK_OPTS", the commands:

/etc/init.d/openvswitch-switch restart

/etc/init.d/openvswitch-switch stop
/etc/init.d/openvswitch-switch start

 ...ignores it! It starts up just a regular OVS.

 However, if you do this:

service openvswitch-switch stop
service openvswitch-switch start

Then, it works!

Best,
Thiago

[Bug 1546550] Re: openvswitch-switch-dpdk links against libdpdk statically

2016-03-07 Thread Thiago Martins
On Xenial, it is dynamically linked:

-i dpdk
libdpdk.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdpdk.so.0

[Bug 1549668] Re: Please remove openvswitch-dpdk from xenial

2016-03-07 Thread Thiago Martins
This is interesting!

Just curious ... Do we'll still have the "ovs-vswitchd" Alternatives
after this move?
