window, In any case, I'd say it is the clock applet that has the bug as

implements their hack for drawing shadows like this pretty much the same

Actually the entire Visual Effects tab is an Ubuntu creation so there is
no upstream. We wipe your settings and go back to sane defaults because
if you've broken something it's a simple way to get back to something
that works. We probably don't wipe enough settings when making this

Actually this is a fix for this in the compiz C++ version (which might
even be released someday). When it detects a window is larger than max
texture size it falls back to (iirc) copySubBuffer and splits the
texture in to two or more pieces. This is much slower than using the
texture_from_pixmap

I've narrowed it down to the see where the behavior is exhibiting in the
code and am exploring whether this is caused by a problem in the gnome-
bluetooth code itself or a change/regression in app indicator libraries.

Ok, I see where the misunderstanding is now. Your hardware supports
running compiz in this configuration, sure. Someone with an almost
identical setup gets an unusable system when compiz starts. To fix his
problem we also had to make it so compiz will refuse to run on your
system too.

Sounds likely your problem was glxinfo reporting a max texture size and
the driver actually supporting something much smaller. Compiz checks the
max texture size and will go back to metacity whenever it gets an error
trying to setup the textures (which I thought it would if it was too
large...) so

can't use it for any compiz actions. This is not a bug but the expected

This is a valid thing for compiz to do. It has detected you tried to
open a window that is larger than your video card can display as a
texture so went back to metacity so you don't get a large black/white
window.

OOo is not setting _NET_WM_STATE_FULLSCREEN so compiz is refusing to
allow it to resize to cover the panel, as it is supposed to. Metacity
appears to have a hack for this as when entering presentation mode it
says Window manager warning: Treating resize request of legacy
application 0x44045cc
