I can confirm this bug on 8.10 with Nvidia 5500 Graphics card and 1.73 version
of their driver on a dual X server setup.
It only happens when Visual appaearance is on normal.
When switching it to none and putting it back on normal, the problem does not
appear.
only workaround on hang is to kill
same problem for VirtualBox 3.0.10 on Ubuntu 9.10.
pressing right ctrl and then ctrl+alt+left/rights works, but that is because
VirtualBox releases the capture indeed.
It would be nice if VirtualBox does not take complete control, or just can make
an exception for the ubuntu switch desktop

This bug is about applications not starting on the right screen, the other
is specificly on loading.
Please don't simply try to close off bugs, although I know that is

I did an update from 10.10 to 11.04 with a working binary nvidia driver.
I removed the pae kernel, because of the non-working driver.
After the upgrade, the pae kernel was installed, leaving me with no gui on boot.

My 32bit 11.10 was unusuble, so I reinstalled the 64 bit version.
It has the same issue.
It seems to depend on libindicator3.
libindicator3-6 is installed.
When I install libindicator3 unity2d and all kinds of notifications are removed.

I have seen this issue on various intel integrated video chips.
The issue seemed to be caused by the KVM switch at first, but it did not return
to a proper resolution when it was removed from it.

I fixed the driver by doing apt-get remove nvidia-310 and apt-get install
nvidia-current, which installs nvidia-304.
I then see the nvidia logo, but no unity.

I can confirm this on 12.04 x86. when machines with an intel 1000 vm net card
are started, the machine totally hangs hard.
When changed to aMD vm net cards, no problem.
Nasty bug! Hope it will be fixed soon, seems like a regression bug. No

I found a workaround.
In my case the issue was the hostname containing dashes - and/or be longer than
15 characters.
Remove the dashes from your hostname and hosts file, reboot and samba4 should
start.
I tried to reinstall then and run into the next bug, which is a password not
complex enough
