My previous comment was wrong, this is still a bug in 2.6.38 kernel.
I think this is critical because: if a person closes the laptop lid then
laptop won't enter stand-by mode, thus getting really hot and a non
techie person would not notice this, probably burning his laptop.

Daniel's hint is really useful, sadly when a new kernel arrives this ppa
:ubuntu-audio-dev does not release an update at the same time, forcing
to wait for it and to hold the kernel update until then.

On my first report I was using latest Lucid Lynx Alpha available at
2010-04-17.
That was the default kernel (2.6.32) and was detected as AlpsPS/2 ALPS
GlidePoint, at this point neither horizontal or vertical scroll worked.
Then in 2010-05-19 I updated to Kernel 2.6.34 from PPA Kernel Mainline,

I rebooted without the AC plugged in, and now there's the battery level
in the Notifications mini-applications.

I activated scrollbar in Preferences - Mouse - Touchpad but it's not
working.
I've seen the options HorizEdgeScroll and VertEdgeScroll in Xorg.conf's
man page, but Lucid does not come with a default xorg.conf and I'm not
willing to create one for this.

I confirm that for a VAIO VPCEB15EL upgrading to ALSA 1.0.23 solves the
sound problem!!! (don't forget to remove related to HDA any line in
alsa-base.conf).
Problem is that it's not a simple solution as it involves to download
about 500MB in packages in order to build ALSA!.

Hi, same issue for me too. I removed the volume control applet because
it appear to be cloned then I tried to remove one with right click -
remove but the two icons removed. Now I can't put it back. It does not
appear in applets list.
I tried killall gnome-volume-control-applet followed by
I installed a ATI Radeon 2600 PRO AGP, after removing the card and
restoring xorg.conf XGL was broken. I had to remove everything related
to fglrx to make it work again.
Tested in 9.10 with proprietary drivers.

Curiosity: if I switch to TTY1 with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and close the lid, lid
turn off, and the laptop can wake up sucessfully

I don't mind using 2.6.34 ('cause it works better than 2.6.35 for me
anyway, compat-wireless is broken with 2.6.35) but I think it's going to
break suspend on more laptop models than my VAIO VPCEB15EL.

This is frustrating, combined with the fact that the first time you
don't know what format are you ripping to, it's most likely that you
will need to cancel, look all over the preferences to change to mp3,
then realize there's not stop ripping button and wonder if you should
close the Rhythmbox or
