I discovered the same problem on Alienware 15r2. I suspect this
causes/indicates that a bug in ACPI disables the suspend and hibernate
function. Specifically, after closing the lid on a laptop, it goes into
suspend mode, but then after opening the screen stays black. If it
helps: the hard drive
By the way, I am using Ubuntu 17.10

Thank you for your reply. I tried adding a parameter in grub file also
(acpihp.disable = 1), but that didn't works for me :( Anyways, I will
keep looking, thanks
