update-notifier supports a mode called auto-launch. When it discovers
new updates and auto-launch mode is enabled, it doesn't notify the user
at all, but launches update-manager instead. If update-manager detects
important security updates, it immediately

(raring), but they disappeared when I upgraded to 13.10 (saucy).
My /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules file contains rules that
look like they did the job some time in the past, but they refer to a

The /dev/cdrom simlink is created, apparently by
/lib/udev/rules.d/60-cdrom_id.rules . Maybe it was intended to replace
75-cd-aliases-generator.rules but someone forgot to add the additional
symlinks for CDRW/DVD/DVDRW drives?

When I opened update-manager yesterday, the Software Updater details
showed only wine-related items at the top level. Digging into the
Browse C: Drive software group revealed that ifupdown had been hidden
within that category. Obviously, ifupdown is not part of wine and

Copying moderate-size files to a samba share using gvfs is ridiculously
slow compared to doing the same via mount.cifs. For example:
$ ls -sh testfile
1.2G testfile
$ time cp testfile ~/mnt/share-gvfs/
real2m37.053s

Now that phased updates are implemented in update-manager, the updates
that trigger update-notifier are often not yet available for me to
install. Consequentially, update-notifier continually nags me with an
attention-getting icon that cannot be acted upon. It seems to me
apport information
