[Bug 1173478] Re: Regression: power on/off of external monitor not detected
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected reproducible single-occurrence trusty ** Description changed: I switch the power of a connected monitor on and off, the state does not get detected. When I switch the external monitor off, the system continues to think there are two monitors connected. Sometimes it helps to push the button detect monitors in the display setiings, or to hit the hardware button that toggles trough the display states (internal-only, mirror screens, external-only, extended screen) , on my machine it's the Fn-F5 key. But sometimes this does not help at all. Even worse, when I put the laptop in the docking-station with the external-monitor powered off, and the cold-boot the laptop, X thinks that the external monitor were powered on. As I have a laptop and two docking-stations, one at home the other at work, with two different external monitors connected I could see a really strange effect. Even with the monitor powered off I can see the correct monitor information in the display settings dialog, so some how the information is read from the powerless monitor. If connected and turned on, the displays otherwise work normally, no screen corruption of any kind. Just the state of the monitors is not correctly detected. On Quantal using precisely the same hardware it worked as expected. On external monitor on/off or dock/undock the display settings adjusted themselves to the new situation without any manual interaction. I verified this behavior also with a live USB Stick of raring-beta2. It just worked with all Ubuntu Versions from Karmic up to Quantal, and now using Raring it does no longer work. Today I had one resume where the indicator-bluetooth correctly showed bluetooth ON. So it does NOT occur in 100% of the cases. I put the machine to sleep again and woke it up again and the bug was there again. I made a screenshot to illustrate the effect. [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
An other tought: If the GNOME team refuses to fix this bug, why does Ubuntu still use gvfs for samba shares? Wouldn't it be easier to implement cifs in a way similar to pyNeighbourhood ? I mean using cifs directly and not using the buggy gvfs-fuse GNOME software ? It does not look very professional to newbie-users when a simple samba share just does not work in Ubuntu. I myself can easily work arround the problem, but my wife and my sister in law they are lost. It's getting really hard to confince people that Ubuntu is the better OS when there are showstoppers like this bug. I'm starting to get the impression that Ubuntu is on the way to copy Microsoft's philosophy regarding bugs: You have to keep the prooven to be stable bugs in the system. [Bug 1173474] [NEW] indicator-bluetooth shows wrong state after resume
Public bug reported: After waking up my laptop from sleep indicator-bluetooth shows bluetooth turned OFF, but the bluetooth mouse works just normal. So bluetooth is actually turned ON and is working. If I click the bluetooth ON/OFF button in the indicator twice, the indicator shows the correct state again. The first click on the button actually turns blutooth OFF, although it read Turn ON, the second click then really turns bluetooth ON again. It's quite annoying. [Bug 1173478] [NEW] Regression: power on/off and connect/disconnect of external monitor not detected
Public bug reported: When I connect or disconnect an external monitor, or when I switch the power of a connected monitor on and off, the state does not get detected. When I switch the external monitor off, or remove the laptop from the docking-station, the system continues to think there are two monitors connected. On Quantal using precisely the same harware it worked as expected. On external monitor on/off or dock/undock the display settings adjusted themselves to the new situation without any manual interaction. I verfied this behaviour also with a live USB Stick of raring-beta2. I'm not 100% sure whether this bug is to be located in the linux-kernel or the X11 system. It just worked with all Ubuntu Versions from Karmic up to Quantal, and now using Raring it does no longer work. I came to find this bug report because this mix of light and dark menus seemed to be a bug to me. There should be a configuration option for this, so the user may chosse between - Light menus only - Dark menus only - Light Menus from light elements, dark menus from dark elements I feel that this is the only way to serve both fractions, those that like the design change and want to keep it, and those who think it's a bug and want their dark menus anywhere. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/925895 Title: Ambiance sub-menus light like Radiance after latest light-themes update. It's working, but I noticed that after login there is no change user indicator (the one with the user name) in the unity top-panel , just the clock and then the logout/systemsettings indicator. When unity is launched from lightdm the indicator shows up, just when launched from gdm it's gone. On my machine this is 100% reproductible. [Bug 872569] Re: Unable to open indicator menus unless clickmaintain and scroll over the menu
Same story here on oneirc 64bit with intel graphics. Most of the time the indicator menus work as intended on the primary screen, and the bug occurs on the secondary. But, in rare cases I had the bug also on the primary screen. Even worse when I try to open the menu using the keyboard (F10), sometimes the keyboard and mouse gets almost functionless. [Bug 750481] Re: In a double monitor setup the Unity top panel in the second screen is cut at the right
The panel does not only get cut off on the right, but if you work in a dual monitor setup, the indicator icons get shifted to the right by a few pixel from time to time. At first only the System-Indicator (Shutdown Menu) is off the screen, After a few hours of continuous work i noticed that even the clock and mail indicators were gone. A few hours later all the indicators were gone. When I hit F10 the Menus do appear, but the indicator-icons are still off the screen. Using the Control-Panel (Monitor - Settings) I switched off the second Monitor - hit apply - and keep Settings, then switched the second Monitor back on - hit apply -keep settings, the Indicators came back where they should be - all of them. But once again they kept on shifting to the right as I continued working. [Bug 692392] Re: [Realtek ALC268] Recording problem on Acer Aspire One (ZG5)
This is a regression bug. Using Jaunty Jackalope the internal Microphone worked as intended on the ZG5. With Karmic I'm not sure. Starting with Lucid Lynx the internal Microphone only works when the Volume of one chanel is set to 0. Anyway as the internal microphone actually is a MONO device it makes no sense at all to have left and right channels, does it ? Somehow the internal wireing of the alsa driver seems to anihilate the volume of the microphone if both left and right channels are set to the same level. Additionally this bug seems to affect not only the Acer One ZG5, but following some threads on the german ubuntuusers forum, the balance bug is quite a common problem with intel-hda sound cards. I would very much appreciate an option to the intel-hda module like internal-mic-mono=1 that simply forces the left channel to 0 volume. Wouldn't this be easy to do ? As a workaround I'm currently using a script that sets the left volume to 0 I call this script in rc.local and additionally have created a menu entry so I can easily call it when needed. reset_mic.sh: #! /bin/sh /sbin/alsactl -f /etc/asound.state restore - asound.state: state.Intel { control.3 { comment.access 'read write' comment.type INTEGER comment.count 2 comment.range '0 - 2' comment.dbmin 0 comment.dbmax 4000 iface MIXER name 'Mic Boost Capture Volume' value.0 0 value.1 2 } control.6 { comment.access 'read write' comment.type INTEGER comment.count 2 comment.range '0 - 31' comment.dbmin -1500 comment.dbmax 3150 iface MIXER name 'Capture Volume' value.0 0 value.1 31 } } -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/692392 Title: [Realtek ALC268] Recording problem on Acer Aspire One (ZG5) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I now think the bug might be related, or even a duplicate of Bug #658069 a bug in fuse. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 658069 Empty files written over gvfs by some editors * You can subscribe to bug 658069 by following this link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/658069/+subscribe -- Maverick 64Bit Desktop Edition corrupts files on samba network shares https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662361 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 658069] Re: Empty files written over gvfs by some editors
I added my two bugs to the list of duplicates because I really hope they are. I only experience the problems with kernel 2.6.33 and later with the 2.6.32 kernel everything works OK See Bug #666002 Bug #662361 -- Empty files written over gvfs by some editors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/658069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 662361] Re: Maverick 64Bit Desktop Edition corrupts files on samba network shares
Today I also tested ftp connection with nautilus I connected to my dreambox by entering ftp://192.168.0.13 in Nautilus' adress bar then gave the appropriate username and password. I can browse directories and open files. Also creating new files works just fine But when I try to edit a file and save it there is a timeout error and the file gets truncated to 0 Bytes. This happens every time - 100% reproductible. once again the error occurs only when using kernel 2.6.35-22 , with 2.6.32-25 everything works as intended. -- Maverick 64Bit Desktop Edition corrupts files on samba network shares https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662361 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
