but "Authentication failure". This may be related to my system language
being German.

[Bug 1733557] Re: Login screen showing Authentication Failed Switch to greeter...

2018-01-20 Thread hife
Same as Eugene, the problem started popping up after upgrading Unity.
When I lock my screen or wake from suspend, I get the described
behaviour.

As a temporary fix, is there a way to just skip that screen and always
go to the greeter when locking the screen or suspending?

[Bug 1734382] [NEW] Folder contents not shown when opened from image file

2017-11-24 Thread hife
Public bug reported:

Gthumb version: 3:3.4.3-1
OS: Ubuntu 16.04

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open an image file with gthumb from the file browser.
2. Click the button with the left arrow in the top left corner to "return to
folder".

Result:

Often, the folder is shown as "(empty)" in the browser panel. The folder
tree is expanded to show the folder in question, but the folder is not
highlighted in the tree. The correct folder name is displayed in the
dropdown menu above the browser panel.

Reselecting the folder in the dropdown menu does not change anything.

Clicking on the folder in the tree, loads the contents of the folder.

[Bug 1714517] [NEW] On automatic sink change, notification shows old volume level

2017-09-01 Thread hife
Public bug reported:

When connecting or disconnecting headphones and thus switching sink, a
volume notification pops up showing the volume level of the now inactive
sink instead of the new active sink.

This also happens on automatic sink switching (via switch-on-connect) to
or from bluetooth headphones.

In the bluetooth case, if the old sink is muted, sometimes, but not
always, the level of the new (unmuted) sink is shown. Switching to the
muted source still wrongly shows the old level.

[Bug 1582213] Re: [xenial] Bluetooth device doesn't play any sound in A2DP mode unless set to HSP/HFP first

2017-06-02 Thread hife
ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/pulse-testing solves the problem for me.

However, now when module-switch-on-connect is not loaded, sound will
switch to bluetooth device, but neither System-Settings -> Sound nor
indicator-sound make the switch to bluetooth device, making volume
control unavailable without switching the setting manually. When the
module is loaded, everything works as intended.

[Bug 1582213] Re: [xenial] Bluetooth device doesn't play any sound in A2DP mode unless set to HSP/HFP first

2017-05-18 Thread hife
I am experiencing the same problem, however, switching to HSP/HPF and
back will not work (when selecting A2DP from the dropdown menu in the
audio settings, the output sink switches to internal audio and when
reselecting bluetooth it is again in HSP/HPF mode). Only connecting as
HSP/HPF and then switching to A2DP will allow for HiFi sound.

A more convenient workaround can be found here:
https://gist.github.com/pylover/d68be364adac5f946887b85e6ed6e7ae

Running a2dp.py after connecting fixes the problem.

The page also provides an automated solution using a dbus-loop below. Or
you can find an implementation using udev rules here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/910501/udev-rule-to-run-python-
script/912838#912838

[Bug 1675511] [NEW] Shortcut identifiers (underlined letters) in window menus are not shown when no item is highlighted

2017-03-23 Thread hife
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Package version (unity): 7.4.0+16.04.20160906-0ubuntu1

Expected behaviour: Shortcut identifiers in window (sub-) menus are
shown exactly when they are applicable.

Current behaviour: Shortcut identifiers in a (sub-) menu are shown
exactly when an item of this particular (sub-) menu is highlighted.

Problematic case: When accessing a menu via Alt+[letter] (e.g. Alt+F for
File) or when switching between top-level menus using arrow keys, no
menu item will be highlighted, so the actually active shortcuts of that
menu are not underlined. You have to first use the mouse or the arrow
keys to highlight a menu item.

This defeats the purpose of these shortcuts to select an item without
having to use the mouse or arrow keys to go through the menu.

[Bug 1315836] [NEW] [HP 625] Fan speed control inactive after suspend to ram and sometimes on reboot

2014-05-04 Thread hife
Public bug reported:

After resuming from RAM and sometimes after rebooting, fan control
appears to be inactive, resulting in no fan activity at all until at
85°C the fan kicks in at full speed for a short time, only to cease all
activity again until the temperature reaches 85°C again.

This started occurring after upgrading from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 LTS.

I have regrettably already removed older kernel versions, so I am not able to
verify that the problem does not occur with them.
MainlineBuilds will be tested and results posted shortly.

I am currently partially circumventing the problem by having
*/2 ** * * echo 1 | tee /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device[0-4]/cur_state
/dev/null 21

[Bug 1315836] Re: [HP 625 Notebook PC] Fan speed control inactive after suspend to ram and sometimes on reboot

2014-05-04 Thread hife
I understand, but I am currently not willing to take the risk of
performing a BIOS update without preparing a working backup system on a
different machine. In combination with my current schedule, this will
delay further input from my side for a while.

Thank you for understanding.

[Bug 1263088] Re: search, next doesn't change pages when needed

2014-01-24 Thread hife
I have noticed a similar behaviour when dealing with .djvu files, where
it seems to occur whenever the current result is located at the bottom
of the screen. In this case said result will not be highlighted as
darker than other results like it should. The list of results on the
left is always empty on .djvu files as well.

[Bug 1272461] [NEW] djvu search doesn't list results

2014-01-24 Thread hife
Public bug reported:

Evince version 3.10.0-0ubuntu2
Ubuntu 13.10

When searching .djvu files, the sidebar appears, but stays empty instead of
showing a list of results.
(If it is not possible to list results, I would prefer the sidebar to stay
hidden.)

** Affects: evince (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1184262] Re: [logind] stuck in PrepareForSleep, causing network and other services to not resume

2013-10-27 Thread hife
I'm just going to list the symptoms I'm experiencing on Ubuntu 13.10
after most, but not all, sleep-resume cycles:

- Network Manager in sleep mode (fixable by executing: 'nmcli nm sleep false',
works without sudo for me)
- System menu items for shutdown, reboot and sleep do nothing
   - Sleep mode possible with sudo pm-suspend
   - 'sudo shutdown now' is NOT working properly, but freezes at some point; I
have not found a way to properly shut down my system. I'll go back and post the
output I get when this happens, if that'll help.

I would like to know if there's a way to manually tell systemd to wake
up. I have not been able to find a command for this in the manpages.

[Bug 447632] Re: i can not see app icon on metacity title bar

2010-07-02 Thread hife
Not a real bug. Just a theme specific preference.
To fix this, you can either choose a skin that still has appicons there like
Clearlooks or:
1. open text editor with root (e.g.: Terminal: sudo gedit)
2. open: /usr/share/themes/YOURTHEME/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml
3. find stanzas beginning with: draw_ops name=menu_button_normal, draw_ops
name=menu_button_pressed and draw_ops name=menu_button_unfocused
4. delete found stanzas or make them comments by adding !-- in front of and
-- behind them
5. insert:
draw_ops name=menu_button_icon
!--icon x=0 y=0 width=width height=height/--
icon x=(width-mini_icon_width)/2 y=(height-mini_icon_height)/2
width=mini_icon_width height=mini_icon_height/
/draw_ops

draw_ops name=menu_button_icon_unfocused
!--icon x=0 y=0 width=width height=height alpha=0.5/--
icon x=(width-mini_icon_width)/2 y=(height-mini_icon_height)/2
width=mini_icon_width height=mini_icon_height/
/draw_ops

draw_ops name=menu_button_normal
include name=menu_button_icon/
/draw_ops
draw_ops name=menu_button_pressed
include name=menu_button_icon/
/draw_ops
draw_ops name=menu_button_unfocused
include name=menu_button_icon_unfocused/
/draw_ops
instead.
6. Save and close editor

The changes should immediately take effect.
